Dumb question time....
I'm shopping for a a i5-2500k build. I have two primary monitors and a Wacom Cintiq. I'm looking to power the primaries off of a single Nvidia GTX 570 and the Cintiq using a Geforce 210 (just need enough power for Photoshop for that one).
Is there anything I need to pay...
Prices corrected. Thanks.
Of course, as soon as I am ready to pull the trigger the motherboard goes out of stock at Amazon. Any suggestions on an alternate? I've heard a few bad stories about the Asus, but it also seems to be a good one for relatively idiot-proof overclocking and there's lots...
Here's an updated build:
CPU
Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz
$224.99
Notes: In the end, I think there's limited value in the 2600k for the kind of work I'm doing. Photoshop performs fine on my current system, and any video conversions are generally done in the background and not under...
Thanks. I was paying too much attention. I'll definitely pick up a proper optical drive/burner. Those things are free with a bag of groceries these days.
As for drives, I had considered using one of my current 1TB WD Black drives for the new OS, with this 2TB as a data drive. It sounds like...
After doing a bit of additional research, here's my pass at a build. It's well below my budget, but that's not necessarily a bad thing as I think it's better to hit a solid price/performance ratio.

Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz
$224.99
Notes: By all appearances, there's...
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
95% Work (Photoshop, some minor video stuff) and 5% gaming, but I'd like for it to be awesome for that 5%. Games include flight sims, shooters, etc.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?

Setting up my new system tonight, and everything is working great except for an irritating issue with the Realtek HD Audio manager. Basically, I keep getting random pop-ups which say "You have just unplugged a device from the audio jack" even when I'm not doing anything of the sort.
Sound is...
Thanks everyone for the advice. I think I'm down to deciding between the IP35-Pro and the IP35-e for the motherboard. Everything else seems locked in. I'm weighting the features of the Pro versus the great price on the e.
Theres the PSU for cheaper, pretty sure they're the same. I ordered this one too.
Thanks. Got it in my cart.
I'm pretty sure they are saying you are limited to 1 machine. You just have to go through the security validation stuff if you change your hardware or reformat.
At the risk of hijacking this thread, I'm trying to decide between the ABIT IP35 Pro and the IP35-e. I can do without firewire (I'll just get a PCI card for $10), RAID, and the extra SATA ports. However, I've seen a couple of references in reviews which alluded to the IP35 Pro being a better...
Here we go. Another pass based on feedback. Pull the trigger?
Operating System: Windows Vista 64 Home Premium - $99.99
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX All Solid Capacitor Intel Motherboard - Retail - $89.99
CPU: Intel Q6600 - $254.99

Thanks. That is a nice looking case, and the price is certainly right. What power supply did you pair up with it? Would there be any issues with the one I've indicated that you're aware of?
Good tips. Thanks. My current machine is like a jet engine on windup, so anything to reduce noise is...
Thanks for the feedback thus far. Here's a slightly revised item list. Would appreciate any additional feedback--good and bad. I'm showing prices w/o rebates, and I do intend to do a bit of price comparisons before I buy.
Would appreciate feedback primarily on mobo, case, power supply and...
Thanks. I'll add it to my wish list and do a compare.
The hardware is USB stuff, so no worries there.
That's interesting. Everything I've read says the 8800GT is the price/performance sweet spot, but some searching under the forums shows both a ton of people building with the 8800GT and...
A couple of days ago I posted a AVADirect Build (and got some great feedback). I'm also exploring the DIY route and would love some direction on this build. All prices shown are Newegg but I will shop around a bit (though I'd like to limit to 2 or 3 vendors).
System is for gaming, general...
Thanks everyone for the advice. To answer what's been asked a couple of times, my monitor is a Dell 2005FPW 21" (1680x1050 native). Even if I change out monitors, I probably won't go bigger.
So it sounds like SLI will never be a concern at that max resolution?
My current system is several years old (a record for me -- I used to build my own every 18 months). I am finally feeling the pain and it's time for a new system. I'm considering going to a boutique this time; I just don't have the time or energy to deal with it myself.
I've done some research...
I'm pretty amazed by this story. I feel bad for you. I didn't count up how much extra money you've sunk into this system but it seems like ALOT.
I fought Toshiba for 2 years on a lemon TV. I went through two of them. The first had a lovely little screen jitter that constantly faded and...
Hi, everyone. I lurked here about 3 years ago when I was building my last system. I am feeling like it is time for a fresh start. I've done a fair bit of research, but I've made myself more confused and I'm hoping for some advice from the gurus here.
Here's my current specs....
AMD...
