A few months ago, I had a problem where my new ASRock P67 Extreme6 rig would not power up.
If you have this problem, and do not want to send the MB back, this approach works.
I have a powerstrip with a switch. If I hit the switch and the power on button on my case at the same time, it...
Ugh - I'd have to downgrade to my old MB again while waiting for a replacement, massive hassle. If the replacement is the same board model, it might be a compatibility issue. Maybe I'll just use sleep mode anymore :-)
I've raised a ticket with ASRock, and I'll try unplugging everything but...
There cannot be a problem with the PSU or the power button. It will boot if I clear the CMOS before I hit the power button.
Otherwise no lights come on at all, but I can hear a pulsing through the speakers (thump thump thump, about 3/second).
It is on the latest BIOS, but I will try...
Update: Overclockers refunded me for the RAM, but they did not pay the cost of sending it back.
Given that they said they didn't think they did anything wrong in sending me a different part number from what I ordered, I have no reason to think they would not do this to other customers in the...
Hi,
What should I check for a problem like this? Everything seems physically secure.
I have a new ASRock P67 Extreme6 motherboard and a Corsair HX620 PSU. The PSU is not new and worked in my old rig. The load has not increased significantly since the upgrade, if at all.
Most of the...
Hi,
What should I check for a problem like this? Everything seems physically secure.
I have a new ASRock P67 Extreme6 and Corsair HX620 PSU (not new and worked in my old rig).
Most of the time, it will not power up cold. I can hear clicks through my speakers and a brief flicker on USB...
Sent back - Overclockers.co.uk are treating it as an RMA. They better not try and apply restocking fees. Sent them the cost of returning the RAM.
Bought some low-voltage RAM from a different retailer.
Hi. I have a new Asrock P67 Extreme6 and the following RAM:
G.SKILL F3-12800CL7D-4GBECO 2x2GB DDR3-1600 CM7-8-7-24 1.35V
The BIOS defaults to running this RAM at 1333 9-9-9-24 even though the specs above are what it is reading off of the SPD. Why does it do this?
If I manually configure...
Hi,
I have an Intel X25-M G2 80GB. It does not need the 6Gb/s speed of SATA III, but is it compatible?
Should I only install it on an SATA II connector?
They're saying they are all the same bar the stickers. My concern is that Corsair describe the product as a match pair (or triple), so when I get two in a bag, I don't know whether they were tested together at all.
There was no shortage when I ordered, so I doubt they had to resort to this...
OK, looking at the ASUS P8P67 Deluxe QVL (ASRock do not include the voltage in their QVL). Most of the 1600MHz RAM on that list is 1.65V.
What RAM do you recommend then, with a P67 motherboard?
Thanks guys.
Erm, confused. The RAM I ordered is 1.65V and it is certified by ASRock. It is also certified by ASUS (was considering P8P67 Deluxe before I ordered the ASRock). What is the problem with 1.65V RAM?
I am still not clear on the pairs/triples of RAM. When you buy a matched pair e.g...
Hi,
Overclockers just sent me my order, which included RAM for an Asrock P67 Extreme6. I am waiting for the motherboard from a different retailer, as they are sold out.
I ordered 4GB of Corsair XMS3 RAM (2 x 2GB). They shipped a different product - it is two of the three from an equivalent...
You have got that 100% backwards.
Adding a different controller is a major design and testing undertaking. By the time you have it ready, Intel have working B3 chipsets out to your competitors.
On the other hand, waiting for the B3 just means taking the chips from Intel that they inform...
Hi,
Are any of the P67 boards standing out above the others for quality, stability and features?
Asus for example seem to have 8 P67 boards, which is too many variations IMHO.
Is it safe to assume Intel will launch 6 within a year for Socket 1155 (or maybe even 8 core CPUs in 2 years)?
It is alarming how quick Intel change sockets. This combined with their crippling (e.g. no QPI on Sandybridge, P67 vs. H67 features) is a symptom of a lack of competition at the...
Hi,
I have uninstalled Bioshock after playing it briefly, as going around picking up needles strikes as more like community service than a recreational activity.
How can you be sure the Securom crap is gone? I have Vista.
Thanks.
If you are using a VGA cable to connect to the monitor, cleartype will not work as intended.
Only use it if you have a DVI or other digital connection (laptop screen, HDMI etc).
It is based on using the seperate red/green/blue pixels to give an effect of 3 times the horizontal resolution...
Hi. This is a thread about outbound firewall controls, wherein I mentioned "The whole Adobe affair recently is a reminder of why people need a popup to tell them a new app is trying to connect out."
This refers to the fact that CS3 phones home, which is more sinister than the performance...
Turn off Wake-on-LAN, both in Windows (advanced settings for the network adapter) and in the BIOS.
Hibernate does shut off the PC, but that blasted Wake-on-LAN keeps some part of it powered up. Who the hell uses anyway, except for some corporate LANs?
After making this change, I hibernated...
This is a whole other thread, but...
I think Vista is a lot better than XP was back in 2002 - XP was a shambles especially for security. I remember being disgusted with it at the the time, but by the time we got XP SP2 at work, it was solid enough.
People were saying what they say now about...
My understanding was that hibernate ultimately shuts down your computer completely, but allows it to come back up with all your programs etc. loaded into memory. However it seems to be using some power.
If I hibernate my laptop when it is 100% charged and plug out the charger at night, in the...
Hi,
I would like a permissions-based outbound firewall system that alerts me to software phoning home - is the following possible with Vista, or do you need to use 3rd party software?:
1. I use an app for the first time, and it tries to connect to the internet.
2. Connection is blocked...
The docs make it sound like it has a problem moving partitions in general.
What do you mean by save? You mean recover? If so, I did the same thing with Vista, but I restored over it, just in case everything wasn't 100%.
I'm not sure the problem is the bootloader - I think it might be that...
Hi,
I posted a thread earlier asking about free options for moving/resizing partitions, and here are some notes which others may find useful in the future. In hindsight, it would have been quicker to reinstall Vista + apps - but knowing how to do it now, I could do it in a few hours.
I had...
That is the only part of the puzzle I am missing: If Vista is now on the main drive, I need to change the bootloader to load Vista from that partition, rather than the second drive. The option to boot an older version of windows (2K) will not need to change at all.
I should be able to do...
That would be overkill - I am migrating from Win2k to Vista and would like to dual boot for a while.
The Vista is on a second noisy drive and I would like to move it, and I hoped to avoid the hassle of installing Vista again and installing other apps and making configuration changes.
What...
Disc Wizard is unsuitable unfortunately - it will not clone or restore an image without removing any existing partitions.
What I need to do is move Vista from a second (old, slow, noisy) drive I used for trying it out, on to my main drive. On that main drive there is Win2k and a data...
