Hi all!
ASUS MAXIMUS IV EXTREME-Z mobo issue that is killing me!
I woke up this morning, turned on my PC (after shutting down last night with no issues at all), and was treated to a usual startup, and then a message stating "Updating iROG firmware now! DO NOT unplug or turn off power..."...
As already said, depends on what you want as an end result. If glossy, go with the wetsanding (add a little dishsoap to make the sandpaper glide more smoothly), and if a matte or satin finish is desried, just go with the sand, prime, and paint approach.
While I think it totally depends on...
I used Tremclad matte black for the interior (different gloss levels are available). It's designed for pretty extreme conditions (such as for outdoor metal furniture). I gave the frame a good cleaning and sanding prior to applying the Tremclad.
In terms of strictly matching Krylon to...
I recently (more or less) did whole case using a couple techniques (the worklog can be found here):
1. Metal Exterior Panels - Sand, sand, sand. Automotive primer. Red Krylon Fusion. Sand. Paint. Sand. Paint. Clear coat.
2. Plastic Exterior Panel (front bezel) - Sand. Fill (OR use a...
Okay (again, note that my electronics knowledge is scarce), could I "bridge" the two grounds together into a single ground? I.E. could I simply run a wire from the ground that is, well, grounded, to the empty hole onthe connector, and ground both "holes" to one ground? Obviously, I'd need to...
I am currently putting together (whoops, attempting to put together) a standalone cooling solution for an entertainment cabinet. It currently houses a bunch of components, including my HTPC, and I am unhappy with the warm air I feel wafting out from the shelving unit.
Here's what my original...
It's nice to see good craftsmanship and "fit and polish" on an mdf case. While the "real" wood cases are gorgeous, the ease of working with mdf is often overlooked. As always, I'm interested in seeing how the finish turns out on an mdf base.
Looks awesome so far. Great work!
While I am no expert modder (and others will provide more experience), I have used stright up bolts through drilled holes (see my build here - using the same mesh that you are using).
You could also use double-sided tape - the 3M stuff sold by performance-pcs holds substantial weight, and has...
If you can find it, any Krylon Fusion paint would likely work out better for the plastic bezel than vinyl dye: you'll get a nicer finish in terms of consistency and coverage. The Fusion brand can be applied to metal or platic (but it has been designed for plastic).
I haven't tried Tremclad...
@ Viperlover:
That is one sweet keyboard! Also, you may be missing that number 3 key... but I lost the damn up arrow, and had to replace it with the one from my kb... and until now, I never realized how much I used the damn arrows!
@ Arcygenical:
You had a painting tutorial that I...
Alright... it's been a fast, quick build, and I'll apologize for the lack of much in the way of "process pics." As you know, I ground this thing out over a fairly short period of time in order to deliver for my gf's sister's birthday. Well, it's done (or, at least as done as I could get it in...
The entertainment unit is relatively new... who would have guessed it was sized perfectly to NOT fit standard equipment.
That TEAC unit is perfect... so I am not surprised it's been discontinued :(
And yeah, 41 cm would not fit in the unit...
I've been looking at the Logitech...
Okay... vents cut out (several dremel cutting wheels later), and all of the unsightly bondo is gone! I had modder's mesh, nuts, bolts, etc... but i needed something to frame the grill. I found some crazy stuff that looks like unprinted circuit board - kind of a thin plasticky particle board...
That is a nice little system... don't need the speakers, however, as I have a decent set already. If I could get the receiver separately, that would be a nice alternative.
edit: except for the proprietary speaker connectors :(
My budget is very flexible, but I think a reasonable range would be 500-1000... while I would consider going alittle further either way (lower is, of course, perfectly fine!).
So, up until recently I have been using a nifty little Panasonic Stereo (SA-AK600) system to enjoy two things:
1. Television audio (via a straight RCA connection)
2. Xbox360 audio (via an optical input) in 5.1
The system is a 5.1 DTS surround sytem that has various effects and actually...
Okay. Figured out a way around dealing with the pre-existing indented ventillation things on the sides of the case. As the front duct is going to be modder's meshed (hex mesh), the front is going to be both black (from the duct, bay covers, dvd-rom, and the front panel socket plate), red, and...
I had a SLVR, and yes, the camera is attrocious!
Anyhoo: have a couple of coats of the red down on the sides and top, and it's coming along nicely... here's a quick pic after sanding at 1000 grit and painting:
The filled in "hole thing/indentations" on the sides are indeed going to be a...
Okay, got some work done this weekend:
Sanding: check
Self-Etching Autmotive Primer: check
Plastic Primer: check
Test fit the duct in the bezel
I must say that the self-ethcing primer is awesome, evil paint. It has a heavy, coarse texture that for the most part, looks pretty damn...
Okay... first worklog posted here, and the work is going to be done as quickly as possible. Essentially, my GF's sister needs a new computer, and needs an inexpensive web-browsing, music-listening, you-tube watching, office capable desktop.
Being the hell of a guy I am, I offered to order...
Hey Arcy - Case looks great!
Was wondering if you had an alternative for Canucks looking for Plexi online (Warehouseplastics is not defunct)... any sources? Also, I live in T.O. as well, so if there's any sources locally, lemme know!
Looks like the face plate is removable for easy painting or anodizing... Arcy, surely if this doesn't come in black you can toss it in the oven for a bit after a coat of black?
Thanks for the info... damn optical drives, thinking they're special...
..and Arcygenical, please feel free to provide help that fast again in the future! ;)
Worklog will be starting in the next month or so, once my design is finalized.
Yes, that's right... screws.
Anyone know the specs/number/type/thread of screw used to mount a hard drive (or optical drive) to a cage?
I am away from home for a bit, and wanted to have a friend pick some up for when I get home, and he is, well, not smart. If I don't provide specific...
