I built my latest gaming box at Microcenter in Sharonville, Ohio and I had a fantastic experience. I took my shopping list from PC Parts Picker and they price matched everything. In some cases, their bundles made it cheaper than I could have purchased offline. From that experience, it sounds...
If they're gonna bash on games, at least get their facts straight.
Impressive and you are tied for the lead come from Unreal Tournament, not GTA.
In Farcry 3 you are held captive against your will and you are trying to get away. HOW IS THIS A BAD THING? If you are being held...
Most games developed on console then ported to PC are horrible. Not the game itself. It's usually an interesting game with a piss-poor move to the PC.
The easiest thing to say is, "no one wants a keyboard and mouse." In my mind, that translates to, "We'd have to do too much work to make it...
So, a friend of mine and I have discussed this topic for some time now.
I am currently completely absorbed in to Far Cry 3. It's about the only game I play worth noting.
I have an HD 6870 card and I was thinking of tossing in a second HD 6870. I have found them used as low at $129.00...
I recently RMA'd a 9800GT and EVGA sent me a 450GTS. I use an HIS 6870 as my main card.
I installed both cards, using the latest Beta Catalyst and the latest recommended 450GTS driver. I ran the software that should enable physx and rebooted.
The game ran first time out, with everything...
I bought a 9800GT Akimbo from EVGA some time ago. It recently stopped working.
I did an RMA and EVGA is sending me a 450 GTS to replace the card.
I am having difficulty finding comparisons between the 2 cards. The akimbo cooler added a premium to the card that I do not believe they took in...
So I decided to go for it - I pushed the volts up to 1.45 - that was the magic number - Windows booted - I am running Orthos now.
Cpuz validation - http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2484818
This is a great question. I just got my new rig put together tonight and I am still tweaking.
10 minutes of Orthos and my temps are still at 52C - 54C - this H80 is pretty awesome, its not even on the highest setting.
Here's my cpuz validation -...
When you say boot, you mean no post or anything? I would pull out the RAM and video card to see if you get any post codes. (Beeping) If you do, count them. That will point you in a direction.
I believe you will see that a Z68 motherbaord is pretty reasonable in both price and performance and can help keep the cost of the upgrade down a bit.
You're most likely looking at spending over $200 on a chip. So, to keep this in the sub-$300.00 realm, Z68 is probably the way to go. If you...
Yea, like I said. The amazing part was the fact that they actually cared enough to give back my 2.99. I have dealt with other companies that told me I was just s.o.l. for any help. Even a large Nvidia reseller that begins with an E has gotten me a few times on shipping.
I have an E8500 @ 4.1ghz and an [email protected] - I even have an [email protected] ghz.
The E8500 is connected to a 23" panel @ 1920x1080 resolution. It has an HIS HD6870 in it and I can run every game at high or ultra settings, with playable framerate. I play BF 3 on High and get around 40 fps...
So, to answer - yes, it was Newegg.
In my experience, most companies will not give you your 3 bucks back, ever. I was quite suprised.
On another note, UPS is pretty horrible.
I contacted them today to see if I could expedite my shipping by picking up my items. I was told that even though...
I apologize for putting this here, but I didn't really see a better thread for this.
Wednesday morning, I ordered an i5-2500K, an H80 cooler, and a new 230mm red fan for my Thermaltake Blacx case.
I placed my order at 7 am EST and chose the "rush processing" option for 2.99 more. A week...
Yea, I ordered the stuff listed above already. It should be arriving tomorrow. I went with motherboard, ram, and a second SSD today and I will be ordering my processor + cooling solution next week.
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 pro was awesome on my previous build. The problem is the foot print of...
@IntelEnthusiast - is there enough room on the Extreme 4 for the Noctua? It seems like it would block some of my ram sockets and require low-profile ram?
@Silent-circuit - I was thinking about the H100 - I didn't know if the 240mm Fan slot in the top of the blackx would be sufficient for the...
Hey guys! As you can see from my signature, I am a bit behind. The wife has decided to let me do some incremental upgrades. I plan on reusing some of my old parts. I want a robust cooler, on a budget under $120.00, for overclocking a Sandy Bridge cpu. I have heard that the Sandy Bridge...
Kind of an age old question here, and a tricky one to boot.
The PS3 is without a doubt the most bang for the buck console that's probably ever been made. That being said its still not a PC.
Both have their + and their -.
If a game is developed for console and then ported to PC there's...
There's no way to make Crossfire work yet. Most of the "Crossfire workarounds" just rename the Brink.exe to ETQW.exe, and that makes the game crash.
Not sure about the threaded renderer. I see that patch 2 has been released to day, along with a nice little note.
"We would like to thank...
After spending some time with Google, I was unable to find a "yes, Brink officially supports Eyefinity" thread anywhere. So I dug in to the ET:QW commands and figured out how to make eyefinity work with Brink.
The downside::
There's always a downside. Brink has a hardcoded 30 FPS single...
The only issues I have had with my 6870:
-First install, none of the new drivers worked! I had to install the drivers on the CD, then update using each of the updates sequentially. (I completely uninstalled everything to install the 11.11 and its not an issue anymore)
-When I added my second...
I decided a long time ago to let the pros help me make my decision. I have been reading Tom's Hardware, Sharky Extreme, Anandtech, and ofcourse H for a long time now.
My upgrade path changed based on price to performance. I usually go midrange with what I purchase.
Riva TnT2
Nvidia...
You can't always go by the connections on the power supply bud. Truthfully, its a "safe" practice. If the power supply has the connections on it already, then it will undoubtedly work.
However, many high quality supplies will do more than what the connections allow.
My supply is hardly a...
I started another thread where I asked about using an 8800 GTS 320 meg as a physx card. I won't go in to great detail, but one of the posters was pretty adamant that my E8500 was bottlenecking my Crossfired 6870's.
The only thing I have to go by right now, is Homefront and since it doesn't...
I know almost all Unreal Engine 3 games CAN utilize it, but many do not. Borderlands for example - You can turn it on, but it does nothing. I miss the papers floating about and the flags waving unpredictably in Batman AA, though. I don't own any consoles so I try to soak the most out of my PC...
On a side note - I started a recent thread about using the 8800 GTS 320 meg as a standalone physx processor for my eyefinity rig. It was interesting reading but ultimately it was decided that anything slower than a 9600 GT is probably not worth the time.
Food for thought bro :)
I noticed that someone said DX11 slows all of the games down. There's on anomaly. World of Warcraft. For some reason, enabling dx11 actually increases framerate a bit. I haven't found a good explanation for it.
Speaking from experience:
I had an 8800 GTS - I uupgraded to a 9800 GT. The difference was more than 15 fps in most games. Then I upgraded to a 260 GTX - the difference was up to 25 fps in most games.
I now have the 6870. While I am not seeing a huge improvement over my 260 gtx, it is...
I'm afraid I am misleading. I just see people's signatures on various forums. I honestly have no real world numbers to go by, thus I messaged here.
I apologize for leading you to believe that I have such information, I truely do not.
I had only run across the articles where people were...
I love this community :)
nice little war going on and everyone is trying so hard to make sure I have the best information. That rocks.
Here's the deal: I own a 9800 GTX (wife's pc) a 9800 GT (home theater pc) my pair of 6870's (this pc) and one 8800 gts 320 meg that had basically been...
I posted a while back that I was looking to get a pair of 6870 videos cards. (Did not want to necro the old thread) I have them in and its working great. Here's a brief overview:
I have an Antec Trupower Trio 650 Watt power supply.
My processor is an E8500 running at 4.135ghz
a pair of HD...
