Wow, enjoy the new workstation. Is this for gaming or other purposes? If it's gaming, lets see some "real world" benches!
Also, have you removed all the screens and cut out the honeycomb fan covers for better airflow/less noise?
I would say you made a good choice IMHO.
If you play games and want support for EAX 3(?), your boned. Personally, I think EAX isn't 'all that' so I am leaning the same way.
Reviews of the card look good.
IMHO, it's definitely worth buying.
Yes, it's buggy.
Yes, it takes some tweaking to hit the performance sweet spot (on some machines)
And yes, getting used to the ballistics can try your patience.
All that being said, I think its a great game. The sounds and environment draw you in, and...
If you are looking for the over/under shotgun, there might be more than one place for it, but I only know of one.
I'm not going to spoil the fun...but I will give a hint

Anyone here play Syberia? Man I loved that game. The environment was very cool, music was awesome, and although some of the puzzles were frustrating, I found it to be very entertaining.
While I <3 FPS's, I really got into that game and would certainly welcome some new adventure games.
OMG, I can hear the music that goes with that opening scene...
I kept walking over to the edge to see the lake down below. I cant remember... do you die when you jump off the edge, or is that where you have to go?
I wouldn't expect it to hurt the card in the least. It's all about exhaust, not the physical position of the card. Thinking about it, I believe the only reason they exhaust downward traditionally is to avoid pumping hot air into the CPU heatsink.
I have the same case and have no problems...
I would say for air FLOW it is the best. I own the 830 myself, and like it. But when cooling is critical, I don't think the 830 buys you anything that a well designed closed case would.
There is something to be said for a solid enclosure and using fans to stablize the air and run it...
Guys... Acronis True Image 7.0 works in Vista (but it isn't supported). You need to disable the User account control before install. I did this on the last RC release, and was able to run a backup and restore.
YMMV of course
Oh no! Sorry, I had a version higher than 7.0 running.
If you can't find any good all-in-one solutions that suit you, I would highly recommend Foobar2000 + addons. It is definitely a 'tweakers" solution, but I use Foobar for everything. It handles large muisc libraries suprisingly well, tagging is easy and very flexible.
You do need a version of...
Nitpick - when only a few companies dominate an entire market (3 here) it is called an Oligopoly, not a Monopoly. If it's true they are being subpoena'd for collusion / price fixing, well that falls in line with one of the greatest risks of having a market Oligopoly.
Personally, I can't...
Man I don't get it. Why do some ppl get so attached to one logo.
NVIDIA and ATi go back and forth on this shit, so I always buy what works best for the game(s) I like the most. I could give two shits if it's ATi or NVIDIA, as long as it kicks ass and lets me game at 1600x1200 with eye candy...
Nice case... but
1) They had better slot the front of that thing better than the p180's. Filters, metal fan gards, and those plastic covers just make it louder and move less air.
2) Oh no, two PSU's. When can we go to power bricks for the GPU's and forget this 1200W crap? It's not Antec's...
I think it depends on what else you have running in your case as well...
I had an Antec P180 for a while, and was running an Athlon X2, SLI'd 7800CO's on an ASUS A8N32-Delux. Anyway, I found that my two vid cards were pumping hot air towards my fan at the front (the cold air intake). That...
It surely isn't the only API available, as you mention OpenGL. Just so happens, that inertia for game development has led a bunch of programmers to stick with DX. They knew it, so it's easier for them to code to.
OpenGL is coming out with a new version (can't recall the nomenclature for the...
Sorry, I might have not been clear. I meant that it is an orange when comparing the GPU architecture to prior GPU's. My point was that it is perfectly capable of running DX9, and for that reason, comparisons with other GPU's is not only warranted, but needed.
I thought about touching on...
If you enjoy reading it, go for it. I enjoy speculative and rumor based news on occasion as well. However, I take anything they ( or anyone else) says with a grain of salt. Until I see official specs/word from the company in question, I trust nothing.
OK, I am getting tired of references to the new 8800 series as "DX10" cards. Yes, MS has a new API in DX10. Yes, NVIDIA has built the 8800 to run DX10, but it is much more than that.
If you mean by apples and oranges that these new cards are a wholesale change in the architecture of the GPU...
It was announced during their earnings meeting. Linky (second post down).
Not sure about "seeing this coming from a mile away". The really hadn't given any hints that things were behind schedule, as it were. I know it was moved up from January to December recently.
I am dissapointed, but...
I have a n00b question about the heatsink/fan combo. I have never owned a card that uses a second slot (so to speak) for the heatsink. That said, do you guys think those slots at the rear are for intake or exhaust.
I know my 7800GT CO exhausts air using the fan, and that creates a "heat...
I have this case, but have not built my system yet.. wating for DX10 parts and a nice Core2DUO.
Anyway, your fans might be ok, but I think you would be better off going for some of the usual suspects for quiet fans. I can guarantee you will still hear them, but they shouldn't be annoyingly...
Not sure if this would be an option for you, but SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) is getting some traction finally. I only mention it because I am researching some storage solutions (would work the same for you tho, if you want it internal) for my lab. SAS is nice because you can use either SCSI SAS...
This has been beaten to death, but yes, DX10 will not be supported in XP. Conversely, in Vista, you will be able to run DX9 titles.
Whether or not they are forcing people to Vista is debatable. IMHO, they figured it was simply time to cut bait on some old code and make things more efficient...
QFT
Also, it seems that the GTS is a dual slot hog with the heatsink on top... Are those style of heatsinks usually exhaust or intake? I have never owned one, and haven't bothered researching it.
I didn't speak of breaking any rules, but thx for pointing that one out. Original post edited.
^ Nvidia and ATI would be crazy to hold off on a graphics card release to wait for Vista. We know these cards will run DX9 and prior games, and I would expect they would peform a bit better than the...
I just wish one or both of the these companies would just come out with an announcement. I am one of those waiting patiently for the Direct3D 10 cards (stop calling it DirectX10!) to build my next system, and the rumor mill is driving me nuts!
AFAIK, Crysis and Bioshock will both take...
Thanks,
That is the one that Jonny reviewed I think. I was looking around for the review earlier and couldn't find it on a cursory glance.
Glad you like it. But is the cable long enough that I could put it next to (on the desk) a full tower case?

Edit: That is the one Jonny...
I am slowly working on specing out a new rig for the Christmas season and Crysis. I recently had an SLI rig that ran fine, but did pump out quite a bit of heat. In building my next machine, I figure I might want to go external with some stuff like eSATA harddrives (with a nice NexStar case) and...
I have been on this game for some time now, and cannot wait until it's released.
Check out this on google video. It's not great quality, but goes into quite a bit of detail about the game.
I am saving up to build my next gaming rig just to play this game ;)

I cut a window in mine using a jigsaw, which worked very well. Get a fine tooth bit for it so you wind up with a cleaner cut. Drill a hole somewhere in the section you will be disposing of to start your jigsaw with.
FWIW, I borked mine by cutting around the outside of the square you can see...
