Thanks, that's good news.
Well, right up to the point that I dug a little deeper on that EVGA board and found that it does not support dual channel memory. Kind of a buzz kill. It's not a deal breaker, but the board isn't exactly dirt cheap and I could get a G31 or G35 board for the same...
...and you know what that means: how simple can I keep it?
She needs the usual mom stuff - web surfing, basic productivity, the occasional non-intensive video, very, very small chance of any kind of 3D gaming, etc.... I was originally going to go with something like the EVGA 112-CK-NF77-A1...
I wouldn't think it's a HDD issue since the boot process never gets to the HDD/OS stage. It never even gets to the primary boot devices (CD-Roms).
As for PSU, how can I verify this? All my cooling fans are running fine and the mobo reflects MEM power via LED, at least
So for some inexplicable reason, my system is now refusing to boot. My rig (as described in my sig) will fire up, the diagnostic LEDs on the mobo show confirmed CPU, memory and VGA detection, but the boot process is stopping just after the screen lists the CPU type. And while a connected PS/2...
I'd also like to add, for the sake of future reference, installing the PSU in the upper position AND with the fan facing down required drilling new mounting holes in the back PSU plate. PSU mounting holes are not only asymmetrical left to right, but top to bottom as well. Totally...
I guess this brings to light a problem with the Lian-Li "dual chamber" design: I need 2 separate push/pull "loops" - one for the upper and one for the lower.
I may eliminate the 2 80MM in the rear for now and count on the PSU to do the lion's share of exhaust duties from the lower chamber...
Flipped it, and it is indeed quieter.
Now, would I call it quiet? I suppose, though not nearly as silent as I would prefer. In fact, my whole system is louder than I can rationalize. When I stop any number of the fans, including the PSU's, it doesn't get appreciably more silent. It's as...
When I was planning the system, I was counting on being able to have the fan facing down to aid in air movement from the front of the case out the back. But the asymmetrical PSU mounting holes meant that flipping the plate wouldn't allow for it. In the end I also preferred having the cables be...
To be fair, the angle of the shot doesn't show the actual clearance, but there is about 1/2" between the PSU and the divider.
If I'm not mistaken, I've seen several other pics of systems in similar cases with the PSU in the top spot. Anyone have any experience?
Thanks for the advice guys...
So I was super pumped to get a GamerXStream 700W for a while and when I finally got my new rig together, I jumped right on it assured by more than one review that it was plenty powerful, stable and, most importantly, quiet. Well, it is by far the loudest component in my system - I have a...
Hey all. I'm installing XP on a new disk on a new system. The BIOS reads all the drives properly, and when I insert the CD for install it either freezes altogether after the screen reads "scanning your computer for hardware compatability) or it will freeze at the initial blue screen, sometimes...
I've actually been using the VC-RE on my EVGA board for some time, and while it's quieter than a stock SHF, it's not exactly quiet.
The pic of the installed HR-05-SLi is on a non-Expert DFI board. As far as I can tell, the chipset is about 8-10mm farther away from the primary vid card slot...
Also, Thermalright says that the SLI version of this cooler will work with this board, but I honestly can see how. If you place it skewed above the primary video card, there are transistors to run into. If you place it on the other side of the secondary video card, then you will run into its...
Hey there. I am putting together a new rig and and shooting for quiet and cool. Since I have the DFI SLI-DR Expert, I was preparing to excise the screaming loud chipset fan and have installed the Thermalright HR-05. Now their site lists it as incompatible with the Expert, but I had to try...
Hehe, goes to show how subjective semantics can be. I would call your set up 'Pull' as it seems to be pulling cool air in from the outside.
In any case, looking forward to seeing those pics. I'm going nuts trying to find a good watercooling case. The hardest part is balancing cost, looks...
Sorry, just to clarify, you mean "push" as in "the fans are pushing the air out of the case" (the fans blow out, so to speak)?
And yeah, I couldn't see a single picture either. Total bummer.
Wow, sounds great. I may just steal the fillport idea. Are you planning on using the lower side vents for the radiator? That is my biggest issue, where and how to place the radiator (shooting for at least a 120.3) and then where to relocate the hard drives.
From what I can tell, the real problem is running the non-TLER KS in a RAID array and having the longer recovery time cause a dropout of the drive from the array. However, having the TLER-equipped YS on a non-RAID system should not result in similar results - perhaps more error reporting. Which...
Found a KS coupon code on Techbargains
FREDSCAVIAR1226 - good for $20 off of $169 = $149 plus shipping
Now, can I really not use the YS in a desktop in a non-RAID capacity?
Spoke with the TRU in the Atwater Village/Los Feliz area in LA and they are only selling 7 pre-orders and there are already 7 people in line. So essentially I was told not to bother. Lame.
That's the plan - HLS-5687W or 6187W. If I can get them to match the best online price at the time, I'd rather get it local than have no immediate recourse for repairs/returns. Crutchfield can trounce BB all it wants on customer service, Cructhfield isn't 4 blocks away. Best Buy is. So I'm...
And I'd imagine that they have plenty of incentive to sell as much as possible, dollar-wise. An AVS member sort of stuck it to them by asking for the TV at the $1500 bargain price in exchange for applying for a BB card and buying a service plan, DVD player, expensive HDMI cable and power...
Hehe, I hear you, TBP, no harm, no foul. I have just noticed a pattern on message boards of entire droves of consumers taking the word of one post as gospel and dismissing (or even unfairly touting) a product that deserves more discussion. 9 times out of 10, when you read someone say something...
Not sure where you're getting your info from, The BluePill, but the 42w2 is an excellent HD monitor at any price, and made an unbeatable value by it's price. While there have been lengthy threads about it over at AVS Forum, the complaints about this monitor stem primarily from the 'lockup'...
Hey everyone, what's the average turn around time - from the day shipped out to the day shipped and/or received back? I'm in LA, so I could probably drive my cards there, but I'm wondering if I send them out Thursday if I would have my cards back by the following Wednesday or Thursday (3-4...
I don't know about you guys, but I gota nice little surprise this morning - I was #196 and #95 in the GTX EGS queue; figuring the usual trickle of 60-70 units every couple weeks would give me time between the two orders to never go without a video card. Well, both of them are ready to go as of...
I think I ran into this on my first install, though I am certain that during start-up it asked if I wanted to boot using CD. Once the initial install portion was done and the system restarted, I thought I had to boot from the CD so I selected it. Nope. I'm retarded.
Not sure if you're...
