I haven't been around in a long time and am glad to see that the forum is still doing well.
I have a question for you guys...
Have any of you ever come across a way to disallow USB devices (or, specifically, flash drives) that don't meet a certain criteria? We're trying to find a way to...
As I've been looking at job postings in my area, I'm seeing more and more employers asking for candidates to have security clearance. From the research that I've done, it seems that you can only start the clearance adjudicative process when it is sponsored by an employer with a connection to...
[H]ey everybody,
I'm looking for a relatively low maintenance, end-user-friendly (admin-friendly is always a plus) approach to secure FTP.
Do you guys have any suggestions?
I'm not adverse to anything at this point from hosted systems to self-built servers.
Thought I'd ask here as I...
The day has finally come... my cube is becoming an office; even better, it is becoming a shared office with another Systems Admin. This means it is NOC time!
We've never had a NOC because we've never had the space for it, and I'm wondering if any of you can [H]elp me out by suggesting some...
I was in Best Buy *shudder* (wasn't by choice) today and was killing time. Naturally, I start taking a look at the laptops they have on display just to see what's out there right now. I hear a salesmen trying to push a Vaio off on some poor, clueless woman. The highlight of their conversation...
Hey guys,
I'm having a ridiculous problem with mail that was "migrated" from GroupWise to Exchange.
The reason that I use the quotes is because the way in which we "migrated" the mail was by opening both the GroupWise and Exchange accounts in Outlook, and copy\pasting the mail from the GW...
Hey guys, I'm going to be going for CCA for classes and was just wondering for any of those of you who have it, how worthwhile was it to get?
Also, I'm really interested in VCP cert, but it sounds like it is a whole lot of hoops to jump through. Anyone have one that would comment?
Hey everyone,
I have a question which I haven't been able to find a decent answer to after a whole lot of searching and asking around. I'm hoping someone here can help.
I have a user in my Exchange environment that has multiple SMTP addresses. [email protected], [email protected]...
I'm wondering if any of you have experience with Microsoft Live Communication Server? Its something my company is looking into, but we don't have any experience with it.
Any input you guys may have is appreciated.
Hey guys,
I just migrated a Groupwise shop to Exchange/Outlook and hit an unexpected snag.
For offsite users, we're using RPCS over HTTP for mailbox access which is fine, but we have a fleet of laptops which user a generic logon (i.e. no profiles).
This was always fine because when a...
Hey,
I have a 360 hooked up to a 19" Westinghouse connected via composite cable, and it seems like the image is about 1" off the screen in either direction. Does anyone have any ideas what the issue may be?
I feel stupid for writing this, but this is one of those things that I've never really grasped.
I have XP Pro at home and want to get a remote which will allow me to turn on/shutdown the PC as well as Windows Media/Winamp control and volume control.
It would be nice if this could also be...
My company currently has 2 servers which we were looking to virtualize because their utilization is so low that they are basically a waste of resources. These servers are for our phone system, and the problem that I'm facing is that they have usb keys which contain the licensing info.
When I...
I have a user who is traveling. He says that he is getting an error when he attempts to VPN in to the company network.
VPN Error 619 "The port was disconnected"
Apparently, the hotel is claiming that they aren't blocking ports, but no other users are having issues.
From the little...
I renewed my service today and was wondering if they are still using the Westell Versalink 327W router/modem.
Does anyone know?
If they changed, I'd like to request the newest model available.
This may not seem related to NetSec, but I figured I'd throw it out here because I get better answers than in the OS forum.
I'm running WinXP 32 bit on my home PC which is Athlon 64 x2 3800+ Manchester
I have VMWare Server (formerly GSX Server) and am wondering if it is possible to install...
Hey guys,
I'm kinda stumped on this one and am wondering if what I'm about to ask is even possible.
My organization has quite a few multi-function Ricoh copier (mostly 2238s, a 2232, and a 3245). What want to do the following:
1.) centrally manage the address books within the copiers...
I have a little experiment in mind. I'm hoping to setup an entirely license-free network and am wondering what kind of stuff you guys would recommend.
So far, I have the following in mind:
IPCop Firewall
VMWare GSX Server
Samba running as a Domain Controller
Apache for Web Server...
I'm using Virtual Infrastructure Client to connect to my VMWare mgmt server. I have a Task that seems to be stuck. There is a machine Power On which didn't work and is not locked in Recent Tasks and I can't cancel it.
I was able to actually turn the VM on by connecting directly to the ESX...
In Groupwise 7, I unarchived a user's messages and with the exception of 1 month, all of his messages appear to be gone.
I can't for the life of me figure out what the hell happened, and I'm sure its a longshot, but has anyone seen a similar issue?
My enterprise currently uses Exchange 2003, but we're considering moving to 2007.
For those of you who have made the switch, does it seem worth it?
The thing that scares us the most (aside from being ahead of the curve) is that Exchange 07 supposedly eliminated Public Folders which we rely...
One of the things my company is thinking about doing in the near future is setting up Shadow Copy on our file servers. We don't have the storage overhead to support it configured as we currently are, but we are implementing a SAN soon, so capacity shouldn't be a problem.
What I'm wondering...
I have a domain through 1and1.com, but I'm looking for online storage. I can't seem to find anything that looks legitimate. I'm fine with paying as long as it isn't some insane amount.
Do you guys have any suggestions?
Kind of an odd one here...
I just took on a Novell network since my company ran my predecessor out for costing a lot less that he was worth (God, I love IT).
I'm trying to set up a traditional Windows print server, but when users try to connect to the printers they are asked to supply...
I just installed an ATI X1800 AIW card in the second PCIx slot on my board, having an ATi X1800XT in the primary slot. I wanted to keep an eye on temps and saw that a lot of people are saying Speedfan works well with this board.
I installed and it is showing normal speeds for Temp 1 and...
Hey,
I have both an X1800XT and an X1800 AIW. I'm just wondering how much of a downgrade will I see in graphics if I switch to the AIW? The most graphic intensive game I play is Oblivion, and it runs maxed on the XT.
I have a PCI Tuner card also, so do you think it is beneficial to use...
