I had a problem with my 7600GT freezing on certain web pages, but not in games, etc. It would freeze when flash animation was played (whole PC would lock up and need to be reset).
This is my power supply:

UPDATE --
I ordered this motherboard to replace the seemingly malfunctioning Asrock 939Dual.

I hope this mobo fixes the freeze issue I had when I put the...
When I had the 7600GT installed it was registering at 54c.
I won't be staying with the 7600GT for long though. I am ordering a 8600GT as soon as they become available on April 17th (launch date).
Well, I finally pulled the 7600GT and went back to the 6600GT until I get my new motherboard in a couple weeks.
What finally did it for me was when I tried to print something and the computer locked up again.
Well, it will be a moot point come the 30th. I'm going back to a regular ASUS board, or a Biostar board, because I can't find an Abit that's in stock.
I'm looking at these 3 boards.

Yeah, I changed the timing to 2T and it didn't make a difference.
It only does this when I have a PCI-E card in. With the AGP 6600GT, there is no freezing.
Well, I went through and tried EVERYTHING I could think of.
I played with the BIOS settings ---- still freezing.
I tried different drivers ---- still freezing.
I flashed my motherboard drivers ---- still freezing.
I changed my memory timings --- still freezing.
I tried downclocking my Core...
I've been looking since I read that post. They are pretty hard to find in stock!
I might have to go back to Asus or try out the Biostar if I can't find an Abit in stock.
I tried that as well. I put a fresh install of Windows XP on it's own drive to test it out. As soon as Flash was enabled on IGN's site, it locked up. Maybe my board is toasted a little. I have other issues with this board as well. I can't have more than one USB device plugged into it's onboard...
Been there, done that. No dice.
It's something to do with having a PCI-E card on this motherboard. I swapped out the card back to an AGP--no lockups. I swapped out the motherboard and used the AGP card I swapped out with (6600GT)--no lockups. It's some issue that my board seems to have with...
Well, after doing lots of experimentation, it's definitely something having to do with certain Flash applications. I disabled Flash in IE and I have no problem going to the IGN website now.
I will definitely get a new motherboard at the end of the month and see if it makes a difference...
It's the Asrock 939 Dual Sata II. It has both AGP and PCI-E.
I checked the Bios and I have it set for PCI-E as "primary graphics adapter".
Like I said, I'm using the latest nVidia drivers. The games all run as they shood. It's just this one thing. I got the page to load up yesterday fine...
I just got a 7600GT and installed it. This is my send time around with this particular card. The first one I got, I thought there was something wrong with it and RMA'd it. I went back to my 6600GT (AGP) and everything was fine. I decided to try this card again and it did the same thing the one I...
Well, I'm sorry that happened to you and I'm sorry if I was wrong in my guess as to what happened.
I, personally, have never had that happen to me dealing with Newegg. The only time I see prices change is when they have sales, etc. I always do a "test run" with the billing up to the commit...
I just ordered mine and it was the same price.
Honestly, I think you just forgot to check the shipping charges when you purchased it. When you put in your zip code, the order system calculates your shipping charges. And if you take a look at eBay , you will soon realize how much you...
ASUS A7V400-MX Socket A (Socket 462) VIA KM400A Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131509
IMO, with ASUS, you can't go wrong. This board is listed at $49 and it will MORE THAN do what you want. It's not overly fancy, and it performs well for...
Well, the ASRock board has BOTH a PCI-E slot and an AGP slot with NO loss in performance. Look at the Anandtech and TomsHardware reviews.
So, I can still use my AGP card for now. I am not into SLI at this point and probably wont be until much later--if even then.
This board provides me...
Wow, interesting flames.
Try and read the AnandTech article before you take a big steaming dump on this board: http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2524
"The dual support for full PCIe x16 and AGP 8X will be the most important feature for many. Here, you can see the...
On the CONTRARY, I have been researching this motherboard ever since it was brought to my attention: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813157081 -- ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 Socket 939 ULi M1695 ATX AMD Motherboard. ASRock is part of ASUS.
NICE! I am ordering one on Friday. I...
You're right. I will stick with what I have for now. Would increasing the RAM to 2 Gigs help any as far as game performance goes?
And in the late winter or early spring, the prices will probably come down.
Well, I wasn't going to do an upgrade with AGP! That would be insane! :D
I was just wondering if it's worth it.
Now, enlighten me, in a few statements, as to the advantage of the Athlon 64 chip over the XP chip.
I don't want to upgrade my current Windows XP to a 64 bit system until...
I was contemplating a motherboard/CPU upgrade this fall.
But, after seeing the mhz of some of the 64 bit CPU's that seem to be around the same thing as I have with my Socket A Athlon, I've been thinking twice.
Also, I've been looking into PCI Express versus AGP (which is what I have now)...
Well, I just wanted to update you all on the situation.
I picked up a motherboard locally to use while the ASUS board is bring RMA'd. It's a PC Chips mobo, so it's pretty blah, but it will do for now. It still gives me some of the same 3Dmark scores.
So, it WAS the motherboard after all...
Mobo: ASUS A7N8X v2.0
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2800+ (Socket A)
Memory: Crucial 2x256, Corsair 1x512 DIMM 184-pin
PSU: 500w Antec
I spent most of the day today working on this. Before I finally collapsed from exhaustion last night, the system would no longer POST. This morning, I replaced the...
UPDATE:
Found an old PCI Matrox Mystique lying around.
Put it in and the PC starts up and goes into windows, etc.
I ran it for a good 10 minutes and then LOCK UP.
But, with this card, I reset the computer and it started right up.
I did a lot of Dimm removing and installing earlier...
Nope. This one doesn't have a temp monitor. But the card was blazing hot to the touch after it froze up the machine.
Then it takes time for it to cool down.
I get about 5 minutes of PC use before it freezes again. :(
So, those symptoms sound like I cooked the Vid card?
What makes you say that? Because it gets so hot so quickly? The system not starting until it cools down?
I'll RMA it just to be safe.
Well, it looks like I'm gonna be up all night testing this system and trying to figure it out.
I am really stumped and rapidly turning depressed. :(
I noticed one thing though. The computer definitely freezes up when I am running anything graphically intense. That causes a quicker freeze...
Ok.. Here's the short version of my epic:
Tried overclocking on CPU for the first time. Went too far, blew the power supply.
Got a new power supply (old one was 430watts. New one is 500watts). Overclocked the CPU again. Seemed to be stable for a week. CPU was somewhat hot though (idling...
Well, I am satisfied with the new HS/F for now.
If it has issues, I will keep the one you mentioned in mind.
I am currently using coolbits to OC the 6600gt. I am running tests on it.
Well, if you read my other thread, you know the story. If not, here's a short recap.
System: ASUS A7N8X mobo, 1 gig DDR400 RAM, Nvidia GeForce 6600gt.
I just got brave enough to overclock my CPU last week after doing tons of research. My temps were 61c idle and 73c load. That was with the...
Not sure if I have the terminology right, but the greyish ports on the backs of some newer video cards which are meant for LCD/HD monitors are called DVI ports, right?
Well, my question is: Since those cards are shipped with adapters, are they compatible with regular CRT VGA monitors? Like if...
Well, after cleaning out the heatsink and fan (which had families of dust bunnies!!) the running temps are: 55-56c @ Idle and 63-64c @ load. Not too bad, but I want it lower. Maybe the new heatsink and decent thermal paste will bring it lower.
I'm now running at 2200mhz with no problems so...
Well the new Heatsink I am getting has lots of good reviews. So, I hope it's badass.
As it stands now, I can't even overclock to 2200mhz (it's stock is 2090mhz) without it overheating and shutting the system down. At 2100, it goes to 70 degrees while gaming - which is wayyy too hot.
So, I...
