at this rate they should just give us the console and we could pay $10 a month, if they have to send us a new one b/c it messes up - then we get 6 months free.
im sure they would fix these problems real quick
oh wait - we already pay monthly for xbox gold and $300+ for a console that...
might be the wrong forum to put this in
but i was working on repairing my av receiver
it was sony unit that the amp IC burned out
so i replaced it
and the new ones were getting too hot to touch immediately (1-5 minutes)
so i figured i should make a heatsink for the ICs
and i did - but...
i have the same problem
about every 3 years my harddrives die
i dont know if its over use, leaving it on 24/7 some of the time (started to turn them off a lot of the time due to power bills / its a laptop and it gets moved around a lot)
but even before then - i had 2 drives in a raid...
just make sure your controller card / motherboard can boot from sata
and that you have a way to get into windows successfully on the sata drive before formatting / deleting the IDE drive.
there is a setting in windows power settings that allow for a warning or action when a battery gets below a certain point. you can have it goto standby / hibernate when it reaches critical battery level (e.g. 5%).
control panel / power options
go download cpu-z
http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
check the "memory" and "spd" tabs
but crucial says that you have - http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Pavilion+dv2000+Series
DDR2 PC2-5300
best of luck
there is that company that sells laptops with linux on it - but i think their hardware is overpriced - guess they arent getting any funding from microsoft - they dont have the volume to offer lower prices...
www.pctorque.com also still sells w/ windows XP or Vista
they are sager laptops - if...
if its a physical harddrive problem (other than the lovely 'click of death')
then try spinrite
if its a software problem (missing MFT / fat / etc) then the probably best chance is using a 3rd party program to raw-read the drive and get the data back...
but if the MFT / Fat / etc is...
if cost isnt an issue
then sure - look @ any of the small models from sony viao series, thinkpad X series, panasonic toughbook elite, and mac is supposed to have a 12" macbook / macbook pro coming out soon...
has anyone ever gotten any non-GL (fireGL / quadro) card to do openGL enabled in autocad (3dconfig)?
the reason i ask - is that its obvious that all nvidia and ati video cards can handle OpenGL in hardware (or atleast they say that they do)
though if you go to "3dconfig" in autocad it says...
well about half way through your post i wondered if you were overclocking and perhaps your ram was causing errors on the drive.
but you said you tossed it into another machine and that would have fixed that problem - unless both were overclocked...
then i was gonna say use spinrite to do a...
right, but what i am saying is the "operating" environment the area around the drive and not the drive itself?
e.g. an intel cpu will turn itself off if it is not sufficiently cool
but thats the inside of the cpu itself and not the environment around it
whether its 10C or 50C outside the...
is that the environment for the harddrive to be in to operate correctly and not how hot the drive can / will get during operation?
the way that they word it - e.g. Operating Temperature is listed for both "operating" and "non-operating" (on / off)
so if the drive can handle 70°C idle...
its always cheaper (if you are comfortable enough w/ it) to build your own external enclosure
if you are worried about backup software, the stuff they sell w/ the retail drives is crippled software anyway
get like acronis or ghost or whatever
buy a generic enclosure w/ the appropriate...
ive tried this before
normally the IDE controller on external drives are only rigged to work for 1 drive
so you can put splitters on the PWR and a 2 connector IDE cable, but the controller isnt going to recognize the slave drive
and if its sATA then thats kinda pointless b/c they dont daisy...
$261 for a SD - IDE adapter ?
ok, so it probably has a raid controller to merge the SD cards into a single drive for the machine
be nice to see some benchmarks
try using Acronis True Image to make a image / mirror
dont remember if there was an "ignore errors" or something like that
i used it last month to mirror a laptop drive that was failing on 3 S.M.A.R.T. points
it took 7hrs to do 40gb - but it finished and the copy works great on the replacement...
use crucial.com to check what i need (especially for other ppl's laptop and dont know what mobo is in there and what the fastest it can take)
compare prices @ newegg.com and zipzoomfly.com
i stick to crucial, corsair, kingston, and tend to stay away from uber cheap brands like geil, patriot...
if you formatted it MS-DOS then its probably FAT16
since DOS never could read FAT32
DOS also cant read NTFS
so i am not a bit surprised that you have UBER LAG when using FAT16...
i tried formatting a external USB2.0 drive on a mac before - it errored out every time
checked online, something...
yea - but since the WD RE edition drives (which cost the same or less @ most OEM places) come w/ a 5 year warranty
a 5 year warranty shouldnt be the issue for selecting a seagate over a WD RE
it could be the "newer protection" that the super-paranoid movie industry uses
my gf has a problem w/ 'sex and the city' dvds (the big box set) as they are dvd9 (super filled) and the way they [manufacturer] encoded the discs and the "protection" it sometimes hangs while watching the...
power supply
too many drives plugged into the same chain (if multiple) of power line
e.g. 4 molex connectors on inside PSU chain - all to HDs
bad cables / try new / other 80wire/40pin cables
the card could be bad also
so wait - you got it formatted for both NTFS / FAT32 and HPFS (or whatever the mac format is called, i dont have one, i forgot it)
or just FAT32?
im sure large files on FAT32 is gonna such
i dont know if that would reduce your speed for transfers that much...
what hardware you got...
WD RE drives have 5 year warranty
Seagate have 5 year from "delivery to reseller" or was it "date of manufacture"
e.g. if they have had on the shelf for 3 years - you only get 2 years
try freezing the harddrive in a couple of zip lock baggies for atleast 6hrs
then boot the machine up outside (preferably below freezing) and see it still clicks
if no click - backup anything QUICK
if clicky - its dead
yea - the order in which device is connected to the machine does NOT matter
the orientation of the connection (the key'd side) of the ide connector does matter....
well i guess if you had them both (both the mobo/card & the hd the same way regardless of the key'd orientation (if it doesnt...
ok - i breezed through the replies (so dont shoot me if someone said to do this)
as long as the physical media is good and the motor isnt shot...
but i did it last week w/ a drive that i thought was DOA and it worked (took 36hrs) and i got all my data backed up...
1. zip lock baggie, no...
and or here - http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xpsm1210/en/SM/memory.htm#wp999869
looks like its under the keyboard
shouldnt be too hard unless they changed the way the keyboard is installed in the new xps series
whats going on for the two different drives?
if you have a lot of writes of small files (that are larger than the sector size)
you are going to have more fragmentation
also if your drive is mostly full and writing larger files ( > 15mb) its going to put the data where it can - and create...
thats crazy
ive done the tinfoil on a 802.11b/g wireless antenna before, but not on a celfone
i dont see why having a celfone plugged into your 10/100 jack would have any bearing on a your wireless signal
anyone else?
