Final update: I've been in contact with the seller over the last few weeks. They sent me a new PCB board and following their instructions I replaced it. Unfortunately that didn't fix the issue. They are willing to take it back but are strongly discouraging me doing so because of the time and...
...I hope not
I have an update on mine. The seller contacted Qnix to see what the issue was, and I got this response:
Thoughts? I said I'm not good with electronics and I'll likely break it more than fix it and asked if there were other options (I'm hoping for an exchange), but...is it...
I just got mine delivered and setup. No dead pixels, backlight bleeding is within acceptable levels. The only issue is there's an inch wide dark vertical band that runs top to bottom about halfway between the middle of the screen and the left edge. It's only noticeable when there's a light...
Not sure if this is the right place to put it, but since it's about the monitor...

SOLD
Hey guys,
I just purchased a GTX 760 and it came with Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag. I'm not a fan of the AC series so won't be playing it. If you're interested, I'll let it go for $15

Thanks!
I'm looking to build a new PC in the next week or so and would like to upgrade my 20" screen to a 27" screen but I only have about $300 budgeted. I'll mainly use this for gaming and occasional video editing. I'm deciding between two and I'd appreciate any input:
$189.99 after MIR, ASUS...
Well, the Presidents Day sale is up on NewEgg and it's rather disappointing. I've come up with a new list of parts and would appreciate any comments :)
Prices are after MIR's:
$199.99 Core i5 4570 CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116896
$114.99 ASRock Z87 MoBo...
Hey, thanks tiraides. I'm totally OK with going one generation behind what's current. Afterall, it's still about 3 generations ahead of what I have now so it's still going to be a nice improvement.
I think I'll actually wait a week and see what's on sale during Presidents Day. Newegg tends...
tiraides:
I'm planning my monitor upgrade probably within the next few months, probably when I get my tax rebate. I do plan on going 1080p and 24" or larger. As for multiple monitors, depending on the price I'll probably just get the 1 and use my current monitor as the second monitor...
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
This will be a gaming rig primarily. Modded Skyrim will be the main game. Other than that, I'll also be doing video editing.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$800-$1000
3) Which country do you...
Yes, stock on everything. I've got bad luck overclocking so I gave up a while back. :(
One interesting thing I noticed: I ran the same tests right before taking apart the old computer. I had a C2Duo E6400, 2Gig RAM, 8800GT. My 3DMark Vantage CPU score actually went down after the upgrade...
The explanation I've heard is a midnight release would mean Steam employees would need to be on hand thru the night to make sure nothing goes wrong, but if the publishers are willing to pay for it, Steam will do it. My "source" is far from official, so I could be wrong, but I think both...
This doesn't match perfectly, but hopefully it'll help somewhat. I just build a new system this saturday:
GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P AM3 Motherboard
AMD Phenom II 945
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB
Sapphire 5850
Win7 64bit Professional
Here's the scores I got:
3DMark06: 16508
3DMark Vantage...
No, each area has it's own tileset. I've so far seen mines, a lava prison, dwarf fortress, jungle-type ruins, and probably another one I'm forgetting because I haven't had my coffee yet this morning. But yeah, they do change, and in my opinion they get progressively more impressive looking.
I think they both have their intended audience. Torchlight seems more for the casual audience, or those looking for a pure hack-and-slash dungeon game. A good bit of evidence for this is how easy Normal difficulty seems to be for people who've actually played an ARPG before, and I've seen one...
I've found a few fish-related, but not fish, items. Like fish eyes, or fish meat, or whatever they're called (I'm at work so can't check what they're actually called). Basically they're potions that grant temp abilities. I think they act on your character because they go in your normal...
Yeah, I agree, a bit more casual. But it's pretty damn fun. I skipped lunch and played this instead and am really enjoying it so far :)
I do have one question, though: Anybody having trouble using the right mouse button to trigger a special attack? It doesn't seem to do anything for me...
Yup, they do, that's why I buy exclusively from them for hardware. It was actually just at the end of business, 5:00pm on the dot, so pretty close. It's at Charged status, if that says anything about product availability...
I think I got in on this. I was pretty quick with the checkout process, but as soon as I went back to the item page it was out of stock, so I'm hoping I'm not a victim of inventory update lag.
Just as a further example, the PowerColor 5850's were in stock in NewEgg for a few minutes this morning. I had one in my cart and spent a couple minutes looking for something else to add, and when I went to checkout there was a notice in my shopping cart saying they had to remove it because...
Thanks for nudging me in the right direction, guys. :D
Just to add a conclusion to this thread, I went ahead and ordered the RAM gwarren007 linked to and the Phenom II 945 combo lt_shiro linked to. I'm still debating the video card, but after saving a little bit on this purchase and finding...
Hey guys, once again asking for comments on an upgrade. My current system isn't bad, but the upgrade bug bit, so...
Current system is:
GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3
Core 2 Duo E6400
GeForce 8800GT
GeForce 6200 (for a 3rd monitor)
2 x 1GB DDR2 667
Antec P150 case
Neo HE 430 PSU
2x WD Caviar...
The 1000H has Bluetooth and 802.11b/g/n, while the 1000HA doesn't have Bluetooth and only has 802.11b/g.
So far, that's the only difference I've been able to come up with. If there's any others, I'd appreciate knowing (especially considering I just put my order in for a 1000HA a few mins ago...
Thank you for that insightful comment, you sure convinced me.
I think I'm going with the cheaper 1000HA. like I said, I don't have any bluetooth devices and don't anticipate getting any anytime soon. As for the wireless N, my current setup doesn't even use it...and apparently...
OK, I'm pretty much settled on the eee 1000...but can't decide on the 1000H or the 1000HA. My practical side reminds me that my current wireless setup doesn't do 802.11n, and other than my phone I've got no bluetooth devices...but the geek in me thinks sometime in the future I would find a use...
Yeah, I just read that after googling a bit more. :(
So, if I get an inexpensive nvidia PCI card (my mobo isn't SLI) I can use the 8800GT to power my main LCD monitor and the HDTV and the second video card to power the CRT (which I just use to display IM programs, winamp, notes, etc)? Or...
Hi guys, hopefully I have an easy question.
I'm setting up my first home theater system, but due to time and money, I'm not going to be able to setup a dedicated HTPC for a little bit. I'm hoping to use the PC I have now as a limited one. The only functionality I really need is to watch...
Sweet, I caught that last night. I'm looking to return my HP in a week or two and get this instead.
I asked somebody else this question but didn't get a reply so far, maybe some of you know. If I got one of the higher res options would it affect the battery life? Or is this something...
Ooops, typo. I meant 8600M GT :p
I'm going to order the Dell XPS M1530 in the next few days, with mostly the same specs but more ram, better HDD and the 8600M GT. I like their warrenty (from what I'm seeing) and I think the couple hundred bucks is worth the performance difference. I'll...
Thanks guys. I've had a chance to do a little more research and I think I've decided to look around for some more deals. I need a lappy at the moment, so I'm not going to return it now, but one of the reasons I got it at Costco was because they said I have 90 days to return it for any...
Hi guys. I spent a little bit researching laptops last week, but I needed it asap so I was looking to get something at a B&M. Of course, being later in the holiday season most the good deals were sold out, but I was still hopefull...
I got the HP dv6663cl from Costco. Here's the specs...
Take what I say with a grain of salt, since I don't use Facebook and am only repeating what I've heard from people who have personally run into this...but the point of this whole thing is that they don't just post stuff you buy from Facebook, it's stuff you buy elsewhere. Something about...
