1) Yes
2) A straight through network cable will suffice
3) CAT5e supports gigabit speeds, so it you already have Cat5e cables, you can use them. If you are purchasing new cables anyway, just purchase CAT6. The cost difference is minimal.
As someone mentioned, the 2500 or 2600 series routers will do just as well. They also tend to be a bit cheaper on ebay as well.
The newer wireless routers (800 series) are probably a more expensive starting off point. They would probably be a better choice as your knowledge of configuring...

IIRC some of those 108Mb routers just run to seperate 54Mb networks and combine them for a theoretical 108Mb maximum. True speed will be dependent on many factors including your distance from the router and any obstructions (walls, etc) that may be in the way.
How long have you had the router and how long has it been doing this?
I have found several wireless routers and access points that do this. I have always chalked it up to crappy hardware.
During a network upgrade I unplugged the WAN feed going into one of our core switches. It wasn't too bad since there was only one other IT guy that was RDPed into a server to shut it down, but the network guys looked at me like I was an idiot! In my defense the WAN feed was the same color cable...
You are using the Xbox 360 wired controller? That works fine, but other controllers that look excatly like the 360 controller (Like the Logitech Chillstream) do not work in some games even though they are detected as the same controller.
I usually use the KB & Mouse as well. I use the controller for racing games as well as when I want to sit in bed and play a game. It's not really a matter of accuracy (I stink either way :)), it's just being about to move away from my desk.
My GF ordered a laptop from them on Thanksgiving. I think she had it a few weeks later. They may have been inundated with orders for the holiday season.
Do you have it setup to dump when it crashes? If so, use the XP support tools to read the mini dump files. Sometimes that will point to another driver that is causing problems.
Cell phone service? Sprint has an early termination fee. Sometimes they will waive it if you have had the service for less then a certain amount of time (only some providers will give you this trial period).
If you are unhappy and willing to pay the termination fee, then just pay it and move...
No dice. The more I read the more I was pushed towards the conclusion that only the Xbox 360 wired controller will work in certain games. Logitech conformed to some universal button mapping when they created the chillstream (which looks exactly like the Xbox 360 controller). The problem is, not...
Are you open to other operating systems?
I just upgraded my file server using 5 X 500GB drives in a hot swap enclosure. It uses openSUSE with a PCI 1x SATA II controller (SIL 3132 Based) and a single 1-in 5-out SIL 3132 based port multiplier. All of this runs on an Athlon 300+ with openSUSE...
Has anyone been able to use the Xbox 360 controller with Rainbow Six Vegas on a PC? I have a ChillStream pad, and after downloading the latest patch I have the option to use the "Xbox 360 controller for windows". When this is selected, nothing seems to work in the game. I have searched around...
Have you tried using another monitor? I am just trying to figure out if the issue is isolated to that monitor (Or model of monitor) or if it is something related to some other piece of hardware.
I have the same setup at work and it works fine with my dual monitor setup. Have you tired setting up the dual setup without the port replicator? That is just connecting the second monitor to the VGA port of the laptop. Let me know how it goes.
Edit: I forgot to ask if you are using the VGA or...
You said you tried them in external cases as well (such as a USB enclosure). If you put them an a USB enclosure, will another computer recognize them?
You say you can't get them to work. Can you elaborate on that? Are they recognized by your BIOS?
I remember reading that those units use a basic linux kernel. Maybe look into setting a cron job up on the main unit and sync to the second unit. Rsync can be setup to perform an "incremental" copy/backup so that it only copies files that have changed. This should reduce the time it takes for...
Recently the DIR-625 router in my house has been giving me problems. It started on Friday when I went to RDP into my Laptop from a remote location and the connection could not be made. I figured there was a problem with the internet connection, but when I got home all was well with the modem...
I have taken apart the 500GB models and it was a SATA drive. Sorry, I don't have experience with the 1TB ones. I have not seen any IDE 1TB drives from WD, so I would think it is safe to say it's an SATA drive.
Without having too much experience with 2K server, it looks like you do not have relaying setup properly. Just so I have this straight, you were trying to send a message to other people using your 2K server as the SMTP sever?
You probably have to setup authenticated relaying. That is you will...
Helpdesk is fire fighting. People don't send tickets or call to prevent a problem, they call when they need a problem fixed. That's a given.
It sounds like you want to get away from helpdesk and more into the infrastructure stuff. Either way, it sounds like you are going to have to put up a...
IMO, if you e-bay the monitor later on you are just going to sell it for a loss. Display technologies will continue to improve and become cheaper. I would not call a monitor an investment. I might be wrong though! :)
Noise is relative. The fan on the back has a high and low mode. Most people have indicated that the high mode is louder then most fans in your average system. On low most say the fan is not any louder then other fans. You always have the option of modding the back plane and putting in a larger...
They appear to be a bit more expensive then the Promise 4-port SATA controller cards I was looking at. I think these will be worth the extra cost since they will work well with the 5-drive SATA back planes, without the bottleneck of the PCI controller cards.

This is one of the few internal cards that I have found. It seems like the majority of the port multipliers are geared towards eSATA enclosures.
Any suggestions on some internal SATA port multipliers? I am looking to expand my file server (Debian 4.0 using mdadm). A 1 to 5 port multiplier would be ideal if I am going to use 5 drive hot-swap bays.
I have always been told that anything built into the the motherboard is going to use CPU cycles (more so then an external card).
That being said, if this is going to be a home server with only a few users, you are better off using the onboard RAID, IMO. This will save you some money. That's...
I have a Fusion HDTV 3 Gold HDTV tuner that has been sitting in my closet. It also includes the remote and USB receiver for the remote. The only thing I don't have is the software disc which had outdated software anyway (IE: it's all available from Divco's website).
I am asking $40 plus...
For a person that know a bit about computers it's easy to understand why an 80GB HD shows up as 74GB in Windows. It is a bit more difficult to explain that someone after you have installed a new hard drive and they see it is actually reading as 6GB less storage space then what it said in the...
Maybe try a live CD (Knoppix) of some sort? Have the Raptor as the only drive connected to the PC, and then boot to the live CD. I have used this a few times to pull files off of hard drives that were going bad. Knoppix will allow you to copy the files that you need to save to a network share or...
I would also suggest vpnc. For most dirstos there is a package which makes installation a breeze. I used the Cisco VPN client on my laptop for 1.5 years. Every time I upgraded my kernel I had to rebuild it, not to mention I always had problems with it connecting but not being able to access...
For my file server I used an Athlon 64 3000+, 2x 500GB SATA drives, 1x 80GB System drive. I had most of the extra hardware laying around, but slower Althon64's can be had for well under $100.

Dual power supplies? I think it is your duty to rig it (if necessary) to portable power so that it stays up during the move. If you need help, Kramer knows a few guys that can help you out! :)
I usually just use Thunderbird, because it is easy to move my messages from my laptop (Debian) to my Windows desktop, if needed.
Mutt for the command line though. Simple, but powerful.
