GPU prices — is the worst behind us ?

Only a mater of time til they stop feeding the consumer market completely. It will be a endless cycle of feeding DC. The future is dumb terminal and pay a sub for everything. You will own nothing and fucking like it!

That's part of the plan... Get as much as society as possible reliant on datacenters , cloud and AI computing... Whether that is us plebs subscribing to cloud gaming/computing.. or businesses utilizing AI ...
If you think the income equality gap is huge today... hold your f'ing beers.. because we haven't seen anything yet!
The AI race is about control... This is your parents version of the "race to land on the Moon"

How exactly did that happen. And did anyone see this coming?
This has been a talking point since the 2021 crypto boom (those less known-glamourous part of the supply chain were a major reasons for some of the covid era shortage, in cars and elsewhere):

The CHIPS act was modified a bit to not only thing about the fancy chips making itself, but the PCBs has well, for example:
https://www.war.gov/News/Releases/R...esidential-determination-for-printed-circuit/

That's part of the plan... ...
Getting society reliant on datacenters is not part of some plan, just market and technological force, messy, competitive, without a nice coordination super mind, like everything before. Lot of the people involved were took by surprise by society giant reaction to chatgpt and its demand for datacenter, some like google are loosing traditional search revenues and try to balance-resist it at the same time that they must adjust for the customer demand.

If apple was able to make enough mac studio to sell a 512gb m5 max to everyone for them to run their model locally, they would happily do it, one of the most popular local AI option is from one of the biggest company of all time and not much involved in offering a datacenter equivalent to care/fear about canabilising itself that way. Same for AMD strix halo successor, they will happily sales them to people.

In general, there is no downside to anyone raising their prices as much as possible. Can anyone think of ANY product or service that could double their prices citing inflation, tariffs, supply chain, etc and someone in the media would “wait a minute, that doesn’t make sense”? Tooth picks could double in price and people would shrug and say yep that’s the tariffs for ya.

Every company (person) wants maximum profits for their goods & services. That has always been true. Historically there have been mechanisms that counter balance those price hikes (see the story of Martin Shkrelli). But none of those mechanisms are working right now. So no limit on price increases across the board. Sky’s the limit.

Well, Sam Altman stated in an interview yesterday that "it is terrible from a global allocation perspective for everyday people to keep the world's limited supply of DRAM in personal computers where it sits mostly idle, rather than funneling it into centralized AI data centers".

Guys, you need to stop being so selfish and hogging the RAM for your personal video card and computer!

I never really cared for Altman but now I absolutely despise him after that comment. What a cunt.

what he said is quite trivial, it would be nice if people building local AI turn around and share it to others people during their downtime.... (i.e. the grid cloud) for a better use rate of limited dram supply, it would also help to have a lot of people able to afford it and be quite decentralized.

Same goes for airplanes and almost everything supply constraint.

check sogni.ai

works only with CUDA & not ROCm

Confirming yet again that Sam is a douche bag! Didn't this guy also complain that his workers were only doing it for money and didn't care enough about the company's vision?

“AMD Reportedly Plans Another Radeon GPU and GDDR6 Kit Price Hike for November

by DrUsmanSaleem Today, 14:18 Discuss (2 Comments)
AMD is reportedly getting ready to raise prices on its Radeon GPU and GDDR6 memory kits again in November. According to a new post from Board Channels, the increase would follow an earlier adjustment in October, when AMD apparently started charging its board partners more for GDDR6 from October 1. The exact scope of the November hike isn't known yet. The main reason seems to be memory, since GDDR6 prices reportedly went up by around 8 to 10% in the third quarter. Board Channels also claims AMD now reviews its kit pricing every quarter to keep up with rising GPU and memory costs. AMD sells its GPUs to add-in board partners bundled with memory, so any increase there usually ends up in the price of the finished card.

This would add to a long list of reported increases this year. A 10% hike on Radeon GPU kits was reported for July, another 10% increase across GPUs, chipsets, and possibly CPUs followed in September, and AMD's suggested Radeon prices in China went up in early October. Retail prices are already moving, too. According to Hardware Unboxed's latest pricing survey, cited by Videocardz, the RX 9060 XT 16 GB costs 17% more than it did in September, while the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT are up 12%. Of course, AMD hasn't officially confirmed any of this. How much the November change affects store prices will depend on board partner pricing and existing inventory, so buyers who were already planning on a Radeon RX 9000 card might want to buy sooner rather than later.“
