As someone who dealt with a father with Alzheimers I agree 100%, there's the sadness of it, but there's also the emotional and financial strain which are very closely tied, now I'm sure he had the resources to have good care, for everyone else its basically where all health insurance just tells you "this ain't medical, you deal with it yourself "Rest in peace.
It's a sad day, but if he was suffering from Alzheimer's, it's better this way for him.

I saw him interviewed about a year or two ago and he still looked fantastic and incredibly robust for a man of 83 or 84. Dementia is absolutely horrendous.
He looks rough in Star Trek Picard. I think this got worse with each season. Additionally, (I think it was Johnathan Frakes) who said he only did half days of shooting on Picard Season 3. If you notice, they did most of his scenes in that show with him sitting down. You could also tell by the way his voice sounded that he was weak and not doing well. That was a few years ago mind you.Farewell Captain!...I didn't realize he had Alzheimer's...they showed him as Prof X in the trailers for the new Avengers: Doomsday movie and he looked a bit weak but I thought it was for the role...he was still able to memorize his lines
"You've no need for your weapons with me, Gurney Halleck."Gurney Halleck: "It's time for your daily lesson."
Paul: "Not today Gurney, I'm not in the mood."
Gurney Halleck: "Moods are for cattle and loveplay, not for fighting!"
Dune, 1984
RIP you absolute legend.

Never thought the first cap to go would be him and not shatner. Also didn't realize the guy was in his upper 80s
Probably gets blood transfusions form kids.Shatner is an anomaly in the Matrix, the man doesn't seem to age a day and is still a sharp as a rock and deep thinker.

He's been looking rough to me ever since the show Picard and Disney dragging him out to play Prof X again TBH - so for roughly the past 6 years or so
Yes it is. I had a great aunt struggle with Alzheimer's. I watched my ex's grandfather struggle with dementia for a decade. Lastly, a friend of mine's grandmother (who I knew for years) went through it. It's pretty rough to watch.Dementia is a nasty way to go, I had to look after a family member with it.
You all realize that if Takei goes next, The Quickening happens and Shatner becoms immortal, right?Shatner is an anomaly in the Matrix, the man doesn't seem to age a day and is still a sharp as a rock and deep thinker.
I can live with that. You all realize that if Takei goes next, The Quickening happens and Shatner becoms immortal, right?
I'd definitely prefer it to the alternative scenario.I can live with that.
Peter Cullen, Sam Neill, Tim Curry, Michael Forest, Walter Koenig, and Patrick Stewart just to name a few. And that's limiting things to sci-fi actors. Multiple losses for kids of the 80's and earlier like myself, but three losses to Star Trek specifically. For those who don't remember, Michael Forest is the actor who played the faux-god Apollo in the TOS episode: "Who Mourns for Adonais?"Peter Cullen and Patrick Stewart. Losing two legendary icons of sci-fi is a bit much for 2026![]()
Dude was Jean-Luc PicardGurney Halleck: "It's time for your daily lesson."
Paul: "Not today Gurney, I'm not in the mood."

Surely his most important role was as Kamin.Dude was Jean-Luc Picard
Dude was Charles Xavier
Dude was Gurney Hallock
Dude was Ahab, Scrooge, Avery Bullock and 100 others.
Dude was married by Gandalf (Ian McKellan)
It doesn't get much better than this!
"Jalad and Picard at El Alamein"Darmak and Jalad...on the Ocean. \m/
I have a buddy that won a contest thing to meet takei and confirms this.Takei is a douche.
It's in GenMay tho.We already have a thread on this.
Naw, you have Sisko, Janeway, and Archer. Last two I could care less, but Sisko was the Bitch-hand of Starfleet. You all realize that if Takei goes next, The Quickening happens and Shatner becoms immortal, right?
Well, Ok, although I was thinking that Stewart's age makes him more a contemporary of the TOS crew. It's in GenMay tho.
