GPU prices — is the worst behind us ?

That is a steal but is out of stock. When it comes back it will be close to $3k.

Yeah

Sad when the Astral is the budget-priced 5080. I bet we get another bump soon. Can't have basic cards (at BBY lots of cheaper Gigabytes are more $$$) challenging the Astral's throne!

My post was in reference to my earlier one warning that prices were going to be bumped (Best Buy's classic timer was in place) and it turned out to be true.

It won't be $1600 when it restocks.

Edit:
Just checked my MC and they have Asus prime 5080 for $2350 lol. The hobby is dead when mid 5060 ti are going for over $700.
Dam this might really be the time gaming dies off. Or at least the era of building your own rig.
If anything could do it, this is probably it. My hopeful outlook would be that maybe AAA will die instead and independent A developers can come up from the ashes.

There are still large amounts of society with stupid money and that "money is no object" mindset that will continue to support "jacket man' for years to come
I would say not a "die off"... but taking a step back to what it was like in the 80's-to-mid-90's.. Having a PC was not even a thought for households without too much disposable income... owning your own PC was a niche group...

Ha! Two of my friends in high school had that exact same tower and monitor from Dell. I was envious of them, my family "only" had a 486DX2 66MHz system with 8MB RAM.

I agree with you - looking more and more like a cutting-edge desktop PC will become a luxury item again, affordable only for the top 10-5%.

This is all going to hit the consoles too. Hardware is hardware.

But streaming everything? Well, coincidentally we’ve got all these data centre resources… and this AI capable of creating a steady stream of slop.

That why dGPU regular dies will stay attractive for them, Cowos for GPU->HBM package or multi gpu big GB300 type, everything AMD do in that space is a big bottleneck that regular dGPU do not use.
also enthusiasts might crack the 5090 compute limits just like they did for 20, 30, and 40 series

they’re digging deep and hard, and combine that with the modification labs to give the 5090 more vram already

China-Modified 96GB RTX 5090: Chinese board manufacturers (such as Shenzhen Suqiao Intelligent Technology) have produced custom-rebuilt RTX 5090 cards upgraded to 96 GB of GDDR7 VRAM (a 3x increase). These units have appeared on marketplaces like Alibaba for roughly $3,888 to $5,900. [1]

Granted that the computer in the ad would have been very high-end for 1995 and not an average desktop for the average person, your point does still stand for that time period.
Also, adjusting that cost for inflation from February 1995 to September 2026, $3649 USD translates to $8148 USD now. 💀

Making up stuff doesn't constitute an argument.
Perhaps you should attend some vendor briefings and the the thecnological disparity.
I'm not arguing against making things up, or more likely overstating the situation. Still cannot admit that you were wrong in your rude and disrespectful treatment of others... I think someone needs to grow up into adulthood and leave the early teen years behind. You can choose to state facts from briefings or wherever else you may find information, and if others disagree, so what, we all have different experiences in life and room to improve ourselves. Nobody is perfect. You can refute false information with facts, you weren't really doing that, you were belittling other forum members. Be a real man and own it.

You can keep your strawman and play with it alone unless you can tell me where the "rude" part is here:

Their systems are still lacking behind, when you attended vendor briefings, it is crystal clears than AMD are generations behind and the gap keep expanding.
If you cannot then:

Nvidia website needs to increase the "starting at" prices. Though these are official msrp prices they are far off from reality. Anyone got lucky recently in grabbing the FE at msrp other than the special occasions?

Worse still if you click the "mid-range" card like 5070, starting AIB price is at $849 rather than $549. I know you won't get best deal there other than visiting MC, Newegg, Amazon, etc.

If we all just add him to our ignore list then the problem will basically solve itself. Life is too short.

bet this will jack up prices as it escalates? the consumer always bears the burden. it’s always passed on even if the company gets insurance pay outs

If you did not sign off on devlivery, it is not your bill to pay.
I can understand you do not work in enterprise/datacenter but only do consumer stuff.
