Amazon no longer showing 1 Star Reviews

yea, 1star reviews are for the idiots to post their comments and have no value. Just for fun i looked up a simple ceramic coffee mug.

I once sent a negative review on a product and was then blocked from sending reviews at all. Wasn't nearly as nasty as the examples above, just me politely explaining why I disliked something (it was something like the movie Aliens 4 or Avatar which I thought sucked...)

This was like 15 years ago, I just remember it because I tried to get Amazon to explain why I can't review stuff anymore and they never replied. I've not used Amazon in the past 10 years, so no big loss, the website was getting annoying to use anyways...

I panned the latest Superman (the pre cursor movie to this year's Supergirl) and being possibly one of the 10 worst movies ever made. Yet, for reasons unknown, a lot of people like the movie??? I just figured they're from Krypton.

The problem is a lot of times 1 star reviews are hyperbolic and often not very useful. People are just mad and what you get isn't really all that useful. I find the reviews in the middle to be far more enlightening about actually using the product. A mid review on it will usually go into more detail about the pros and cons of whatever it is.

Similarly, 5 star reviews are usually just fluff from happy people that have had the thing a day. 1 star reviews are often written by people that should have done more research.

EDIT: To be clear, I don't like them hiding reviews at all. Its up to the reader to determine their validity.
Yep, I pay more attention to the 3 star reviews as they seem to be more fair

They wouldn't approve one of my negative reviews stating how the vikylin poe cameras try to call home to China like thousands of times a day

Is (sold and shipped by) Amazon a good place to buy name-brand computers? I'm not talking about third-party marketplace sellers.

why are companies so afraid of letting people see bad reviews?...making an informed purchase means reading about both the good and bad aspects of a product...YouTube no longer lets people see the Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down ratings (without an add-on) and now Amazon as well

only problem i see here is that some 1 star reviews are legit. some time ago i bought a popcorn maker on amazon. it caught fire. thankfully i was watching it so no damage was done but that's besides the point. there were other similar reviews.

I almost always give a 2-star review when something really sucks in part because it usually isn't COMPLETE garbage, but also because 1-star reviews tend to just be whiners who can't be bothered to figure the product out, or are mad because it arrived broken, which Amazon will totally replace for free quite quickly.

It's why even though I prefer more nuance in ratings, I think Steam has the right idea with "recommend or don't recommend" because people so many are aren't able to handle a review beyond "me like" or "me angy".
