"That said, the PS5's optical drive apparently cannot read CDs, so PS2 games that shipped on CD are out, at least through the internal drive. Version 2.02, out later the same day, adds an experimental, off-by-default option that builds on a community contribution for reading PS2 discs from a USB DVD or Blu-ray drive, which should help Digital Edition owners. The emulator renders at up to 6x the PS2's native resolution, although the README warns that some games are too heavy for 6x on a regular PS5. Sword isn't stopping at the PS2 either, confirming that PS3 disc support is planned for an RPCS3 port that is in the works. The timing is notable, as Sony plans to stop producing discs for new PlayStation games from January 2028."

Love this and hope the PS5 gets blown wide open for mods. Can't wait for full PS3 emulation support so modders can add full BC support that Sony always refused to add despite there being no question they could develop it and get it working.

Sony has garnered so much ill-will from their customers (myself included as a PS5 owner since launch and PS+ subscriber since 2016) recently, that I hope they're damaged as much as possible through the next generation so maybe they'll consider not being so anti-consumer anymore. And just try to provide a decent product instead of using whatever short term money extraction tactics they can as they've been doing this generation.

I really want to do the jailbreak on my launch PS5 with how quickly homebrew software has taken off since it came out. If Sony were smart they would do this themselves and advertise it as a cheaper alternative to a gaming PC.

It's still just an emulator. Stick to real hardware with legitimate games for the win.
I just don't like switching back and forth, otherwise I'd pull out the old games more often. Maybe I'll pack away the PS5 once emulation is good enough...I'd have to rip my games off of it first though.
