The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt: Official Thread

Ya well, that's why I ignore all the DLSS 5 hate going around because it is dumbasses and/or bad faith actors doing it. I'll try it myself. In fact I have and so far I'm impressed. It looks GREAT in Hitman 3, but not dialed all the way up.

The unimpressive part is, of course, the performance. 8ms of render time is a heavy cost to pay.

Yep. I've seen some impressive user screenshots, but not from youtube sensationalism channels, rather on actual forums with it in moderation.

It also doesn't come through fully with screenshots or compressed video. Like path tracing, you really need to see it in action to appreciate it fully. That said, it has limits. One of the main ones is that it is biased towards realistic lighting. nVidia themselves say that in the developer docs and that it may not work well for stylized media. I can see that in Satisfactory. It might look good with more playing with it but by default, it is very much a side-grade. There are some things that look cool, like better lighting in shadowed areas, but other things look dull and have lost some of the game's style. Maybe it could be tuned in there to look nice, but I feel like you'd never get it to be worth the FPS hit. Hitman 3 is the opposite, because of its realistic focus it really looks quite good out of the box with the defaults (most of the sliders in the middle). I'm sure with tuning it could look even better and heck I might just try playing with it on. It costs a ton, but the game isn't fast paced, so a lower base FPS is more tolerable and it really does kick the realism of the environments up quite a bit over what the engine is doing normally.

Yikes. I watched a video of this and his face looked different in each scene. They need some kind of static seed value system for face details. This static shot looks good, but i think the remaster does look better personally. It is missing some of the micro shadowing shown here on his outfit tho (DLSS 5 does a good job with this). DLSS 5 will be useful but the mod version is pretty mixed imo.
Could you link me the video.

My only issue with DLSS5 is it seems to add nasolabial folds to faces that don't have them, or make ones that are there 10x more pronounced, which makes the character look much older. I'm sure this can be adjusted, but still. Does it take nasolabial folds to make a face look "realistic," was that the takeaway from the model training?

I'm shocked just released new tech for a single game is showing some issues in every other game it's being hacked into. Shocked I said!
Yep! It's almost like hacking it into a full scene at max strength doesn't show it well! Brand new tech is always perfect!

Awesome. This time I may actually play the game from start to finish. Hopefully the first person mod will be updated to work with this version of the game.

Never played this game, but I'm a big fan of the character and lore.

The new graphic updates look amazing and I'm sure it'd run buttery smooth on my system. I just wonder how the movement and gameplay is in combat. I'm just an old fart that plays World of Warcraft and had a hard time with Crimson Desert due to the controls on keyboard and mouse.

visually not seeing massive differences other than it's overall brighter, which is certainly a welcome change for me. Can't stand this trend of the last 15 years of just making everything dark. Prometheus, Ozark, GoT, House Of Dragon.... a million other things.

I'm not great at noticing small differences though. There's stuff I see that's different between 5PT and 5RT but not seeing one as better or worse, just different. Excited to try this out tomorrow.

I think I'll finally play this now, lol.

The best part of waiting until now besides getting this remaster, is that I've got it for super cheap on both PC and PS5, and think I'll buy it for Switch 2 now since it has cross-save support and I can continue playing across all three platforms. 😎

ah, i see what you mean, just missed that during my skips. like he says probably drivers, they havent released one for this update yet. but whos playing at 1080p anyways?! ;)

If you own the game on GOG, download the 4.04b installer before tomorrow in case the new version supersedes it.

I see its still in there as of now just before release. I take it 4.04 is the last version before it goes to UE5 engine? I've just kept classic installed, less space and I didn't care to bother with rtx mode. New engine update doesn't impress much either.

Update, just post launch time, via GoG launcher only Remaster version 5.0 is available for download. Although now I see two Witcher3 Complete editions listed in my owned games section of the gog launcher. Maybe that isn't new, I haven't looked at it in a long time.

For the GOG offline installers the old 4.04 version is in the non 'Complete' game in your library, while the Complete game has the Remastered (v5.00). Not sure if everyone will have both items though.

They may have made remastered a separate game in your library rather than supersede the previous version.

Remastered still runs on REDEngine 3.

Yeah, just checked. I have the complete edition in my library (whats installed, 4.04) and then there is a re-mastered game in the library, not installed. Both use the same image/logo. So the remastered is the new version right? The Complete edition I have installed wants to update tho to 5.00b. Very confusing. I dont want to update at all now.

Edit: Found the old offline installer for the goty edition from 2022 in my backups. So I guess I updated to the "complete edition" at some point.

I just double-checked the offline installers and now both versions are 5.00, sadly. You don't have to update though if you don't want if you already have v4 installed, just launch from EXE (there's probably a way to avoid this in Galaxy, too but I don't use Galaxy).

I've played for 10 min and the game definitely looks better at night. Talking to a character, their face... idk, maybe fine maybe worse? but I'm near st gregory's bridge at night and wow, this is sick. Pics won't do it justice so this is here strictly to show you where to go to see THE MAGIC.

4k, RT, no PT, perf illumination and perf dlss. even with a 4080s it really stutters at 4kUW.

After that, you'll need to actually track down these items in Vizima (Temeria's capital). Here's exactly where the game tells you to look: "This item will be waiting for you in the Royal Palace in Vizima. Check the letter from Yennefer in your inventory for help locating it."

First, complete the tutorial (with Vesemir), then the White Orchard region initial quest (which functions as the prologue). Then head to Vizima.

All you need to do is leave the throne room and head through the covered walkway in the courtyard. Turn right, then go to the first door on the left. Under the window is the chest, where you can find a ton of gifts, including the new DLC added in the remaster. If you can't find it and get lost in the royal palace (which can happen), you can talk to the Chamberlain, and they'll help you locate it.
