LG and others spying on you

I can't put myself in this mindset at all. Why would you willingly accept corporations spying on your private in-home activities? It's evidently more than just tracking what you watch...

Those who "could care less" (it's couldn't) are the reason they keep pushing the boundaries of what's acceptable and getting away with it.

I do not consent.
 
For one it’s not just the television spying on you. I don’t consent myself, but again if they want to hear about my wife’s and my days at our long hour jobs then oh well.

I don't like it, but realistically what can you do?

1."Don't connect it to the internet."
Then you won't be able to use any of the apps, and I think it still tries to connect to open wi-fi spots in order to send data anyway even if you don't manually connect it to the internet.

2. "Don't buy an LG TV."
As if any other brand DOESN'T spy on you? Instead of giving your data to LG, you'll just be giving it to Samsung/TCL/Hisense/etc instead.

3. "Don't buy a smart TV period."
Dumb TV's don't exist anymore, and large format monitors aren't quite on the same level.

Option 1 is my go-to because I don't care one bit for the apps. I use it as a "dumb" screen connected to a PC, all the "smart" platforms are just ad-ridden malware that endlessly collect data.

As for the connecting to open wi-fi spots, there aren't any open ones here and is there solid proof of TVs doing this? And if so, which ones? Genuine question because it's pretty serious if they're all doing this nonsense. I'm only using a pair of HDMI ports, nothing else.

Not sure about the wi-fi thing honestly, the GN video is over 2 hours long so I didn't watch it, but that accusation keeps popping up on various forums. Not everyone has a PC to bypass the smart platform btw, and not everyone is willing to add another device to their setup to do all their TV things, they just want to be able to do their TV things on their TV. Picking up a Roku or Amazon firestick now just means you'll let them spy on you instead of LG.

The roku could be, but it would probably be known if it did. The mic on the remote is supposedly push to talk. It's minimizing risk where I can, at least :).

"I have nothing to hide" is why your privacy is being stripped away more and more like the frog in the boiling water metaphor.

This is why I blacklist my TV from my WiFi router except to check for updates once in a while and use my Apple TV to stream everything. Roku definitely harvests data ... and Google and Amazon are ... well ... Google and Amazon. NVIDIA Shield was good but now NVIDIA is all into AI now.

LG's TV UI is a huge steaming pile of dookey anyway.

I liked LG UI tbh. Much better then the shit that is Tizen on Samsung. It was bad enough I brought a Google 4k streamer. I disconnected the Samsung OLED from the internet. Google already has all my info through my phone so wth. I still have a LG CX in my bedroom but I never use it.
