Marvel's Wolverine (Insomniac Games)

It's pretty telling that they gave it such a low score. This is the same site that gave Concord a 7/10 and Dragon Age the Veilguard a 9/10 score. IGN usually deep throats the woke slop. I'm not sure if the rumors about the storyline are true, but you'd think they'd be furiously masturbating to the ugly character models and alphabet mafia friendly story. (If the story rumors are true.) The simplistic button mashing half automated combat must be too difficult for them which is why it has a low score.

I need to read these reviews where they state that the reason they gave it the score they did is because of ugly character models or woke aspects...please point me to these reviews (from legit sites and not some random YouTuber or streamer)...scores are based on gameplay, story, performance etc...so let me get this straight- when IGN gives a game a high score they are a paid shill but when they give a game a lower score they are back to being fine journalists?...I judge reviews based on the content of the review and not some preconceived bias...if they explain why they love or don't love a game in a fair manner then that's all you can ask for

I'm not going to cry and whine if they give a game an 8/10 but then pat them on the back when they give Wolverine a 6/10...opinions are subjective...expecting everyone to line up perfectly in agreement every time is silly

The Dreamers are at it again...patting themselves on the back that the game is not getting higher reviews when it has nothing to do with wokeness or ugly characters...the gameplay etc just is not up to par...not all games will be great

It's pointless to try and engage in any meaningful discussion with you. You are incapable or unwilling to understand nuance in any form or subject. Two things can be true at the same time, a concept you can't seem to grasp which is fundamental to any further discussion.

The thing is; none of these "legit" sites or reviewers are going to comment on or acknowledge any blatant identity politics in games. Because not only serves to alienate their general (and young) audience, but also they pretty much all agree with and encourage any kind of DEI or politics that SBI and these AAA devs are inserting into their games.

It's the same as asking for any political news articles from any "legit" sites or agencies like CNN, NBC, or Fox. They all have their agendas and either ignore certain facts (like IGN would if there were blatant DEI or uggo inserts or into a game), while highlighting other facts that align with their own ideals.

And this is why many "legit" reviewers like IGN and main stream media are losing a ton of viewership to independent news channels and reviewers who are tired of it and compelled to point it out. Which you yourself would admittedly reject (by requiring "legit" reviewers) if they highlight these things we're pointing out that you refuse to believe are affecting their sales to any degree.

'legit' doesn't mean a site with millions of views...legit means a guy like Skill Up or others who post reviews going into every aspect of a game...then at the end it makes sense why they gave the game a certain score...when you delve deep into gameplay, graphics, audio, combat, exploration etc that's what makes a review valid...not some 2 minute YouTube 'reviewer' who's already part of the Dreamer crowd telling his audience what they want to hear...that's a not a review- that's confirmation bias...certain "reviewers" make up their mind about a game long before it's released

searching for DEI elements or company affiliations for wokeness etc...certain people (including a few on [H]) already made up their minds long before any official release...scroll back in every gaming thread and it's easy to identify the Dreamers...same with some 'reviewers' on YouTube...so when I say legit I mean those that go into a review without any preconceived notions or bias...that's what makes a good review- doesn't matter if it's IGN or Joe Schmo...the content of the review is what makes it valid

MLK Jr said the famous quote: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character”

some folk like Dan_D always bring up weird sexual aspects of games..."masturbating to the ugly character models" is what he stated...that's what the Dreamer crowd cares about...playing a game with hot female animated characters to masturbate to...they need video game characters to be 'hot' to cosplay what they don't get in the real world...that's the only reason they play games...I notice hot females in movies or video games but I've never once played a game for that reason

I don't know what this dreamer shit is your talking about.

In any case, when you see uglified character models, race swapped characters and things like that its a warning sign that the rest of the game is probably shit too. It's called pattern recognition and we've seen it plenty of times by now. As for your last comment, I don't need hot characters in a game to enjoy it. Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Wildlands, Destiny 2, etc. Unreal Tournament,, Lords of the Fallen, Nioh 3, etc. never had sexy characters in them or any way to make your character hot. I've got thousands of hours in those games and there is nothing provocative about them. I like attractive characters in games, but don't require it. A game has to be good, first and foremost. Sorry, that doesn't seem to fit your narrative about me. You make a lot of baseless assumptions about anyone who doesn't agree with you. It's all strawman arguments and personal attacks with you.

In regard to Wolverine here, the character designs are bad. I can see that much for myself in the official trailers for the game. The gameplay is insulting. I can see that from one of the videos posted earlier. You have multiple systems in place so that you don't miss hidden items in a linear game with linear level designs. Logan constantly mutters about mission objectives to himself so that you never forget. It holds your hand like your retarded. The combat lacks depth from what I can see. That's a bit harder to see, but many of the reviews talk about that as well. It's another Sweet Baby Inc. infected title and it shows.

I just watched the video. It's interesting because the review itself comes across as being way more forgiving than most of the ones posted in this thread and then gives it a 6/10 at the end. I got whiplash by that verdict because it didn't sound like it was for the same game based on what the narrator said. A lot of the same complaints are present, but downplayed versus most of the others. It doesn't talk about the handholding nearly as much, mentioning only one real instance of it while even showing the other excessive player guard rails in the video. It also doesn't bring up the exploration or lack thereof, and it's far less critical of the nightmare "challenges" which many other reviewers dunked on.

It praises the story, though I don't know enough about it to really talk about that. The story rumors are probably not really true given that most of the reviewers don't bring it up all that much as being a problem. Though one reviewer called it "triggering" to Wolverine fans but didn't give spoilers so who knows? The IGN review praises the character work for Jean and Wolverine, and kind of does so for the other characters which contrasts to the way most other reviews state that the character work for everyone else is basically non-existent. Most of the reviews, including the IGN review do praise the voice work and Wolverine's voice actor in particular. So that's nice to see. There is no mention of the ugly character models, or really the graphics at all. This doesn't surprise me given IGN usually ignores that.

The review literally comes across like it should be the usual 7/10 IGN usually gives out while giving a score that's honestly much more in line with how the game should be scored if you are using a 10 point rating scale. I think the 6/10 score is probably fair, but it's disconnected from the review itself.

A linear game with white AND yellow paint, and a blue trail you can see everywhere at all times with a quest marker. Fisher Price indeed.

There’s always the possibility that ign and gamespot are trying to fake that they actually give real reviews by giving it a real score for once as opposed to the standard rubber stamp 9/10.

*replied to the wrong person, cbf fixing it

A lot of people here, and I mean a lot, could care less what ign has to review. I thought we were pretty much on the same page when Dragon Age the Veilgaurd was given a 9/10. The mods should ban anyone who uses those 3 letters.

I preordered, but I’m betting I’ll regret not just waiting for it to hit ps plus eventually.

I'm just pointing out the tone and verdict doesn't match in the video. It's like IGN is giving it a low score because everyone else is.

I thought you said IGN was a paid shill?...that means they are going to give every game a high score no matter what any other reviewer says...it's interesting because I took a look at IGN's review database and see plenty of 6's and 7's...also 8's and 9's...but this narrative that they are paid to give every game a high score is nonsense

nothing wrong with not liking their reviews but at least have a valid reason...if a review is thorough and covers the game in detail then that's all that matters...you keep using Veilguard as some of indictment on IGN...hmm let me take a look at OpenCritic...guess what?...the average critic score is 80...plenty of other review sites gave it a 5/5 or 10/10 or 4/5...let me guess, they are all shills because they don't agree with your opinion of the game?

here's what Digital Foundry (one of the most respected tech sites) had to say about Veilguard's technical aspects...let me guess...more shills?

It's another Sweet Baby Inc. infected title and it shows.

you revealed in the final sentence the real reason you hate Wolverine (and other games)...Sweet Baby involvement triggers you and you develop this irrational hate months or years before the game is ever released...it has nothing to do with gameplay or combat etc...you frame your hatred of DEI into your opinions on the gameplay...for example: "Oh God, Sweet Baby is involved...the character models are therefore ugly because they are trying to appeal to a certain demographic"

it's OK for people to not like the same games as you...there's no need to call people shills or deem your opinion to be of a higher value than someone else's...you didn't like Veilguard, you're entitled to have that opinion...but to act like anyone who doesn't share your opinion is wrong is silly...opinions are subjective...even if a majority of people don't like a certain game it's OK for someone else to like it

you might not like From Software games...I think they are some of the best games of all time...I respect the fact that the games may not be for you

Yes, Sweet baby triggers a lot of us. Nothing wrong about that statement and no need to try and bring you to the light. Darkness has enveloped and devoured you.

I never said they were. I'd wager I know a lot more about how the review industry works than you do. I've explained in depth how it works and that money isn't changing hands the way a lot of people think it does. Even with IGN. IGN isn't getting paid to do nice reviews in the sense your thinking.
nothing wrong with not liking their reviews but at least have a valid reason...if a review is thorough and covers the game in detail then that's all that matters...
I commented on the IGN video earlier after having watched it. My thoughts speak for themselves. The review is strangely positive and downplays the negative aspects of the game while still giving it a score that's pretty abysmal. You don't find that odd?

Again, I've explained how the access media works. If you haven't been able to understand it by now, I doubt you ever will.

I don't often use the term shill. That's not actually how things work as I've already stated. In short, the "pay off" or shilling is in the fact that reviewers and sites that trash a product too harshly or too often will not get early access to games and products which directly impact their ability to get traffic during the crucial window of time needed for such a venture to be profitable.
you revealed in the final sentence the real reason you hate Wolverine (and other games)...Sweet Baby involvement triggers you and you develop this irrational hate months or years before the game is ever released...
First off, I don't get "triggered". That's some younger people experience. I do not. Secondly, I've covered pattern recognition. BTW, I see the same pattern out of you in every thread you post in. You just keep consuming and then get excited for next product bud.
it has nothing to do with gameplay or combat etc...you frame your hatred of DEI into your opinions on the gameplay...for example: "Oh God, Sweet Baby is involved...the character models are therefore ugly because they are trying to appeal to a certain demographic"
If you see Sweet Baby Inc. involved with a product, chances are you are going to get ugly character models, woke story lines and a bunch of DEI nonsense. Guess what? This game has all their hallmarks present, though I'm not 100% on the story bits as I've said. All the reviews I've seen have been spoiler free up to this point. So I can't speak to that. However, the character models are ugly. From Wolverine to just about every other character are hideous. Race swapping? They race swapped Calisto. Why? There is no reason to do that unless your pandering and checking boxes. And yes, SBI's job is to make games appealing to certain demographics. It's on their website. It's literally what they do. However, the way they do it tends to alienate normal people with functioning brains in order to chase a modern audience that doesn't exist.

Once again, nuance escapes you. Gameplay can be bad. Ugly character models, DEI race swapping, alphabet mafia approved story lines etc. are separate issues. These are separate from gameplay. Both things can be true at the same time. They are not mutually exclusive, though I don't expect you to be able to grasp that. Every review I've seen in this thread has stated the gameplay lacks depth and variety.
it's OK for people to not like the same games as you...there's no need to call people shills or deem your opinion to be of a higher value than someone else's...you didn't like Veilguard, you're entitled to have that opinion...but to act like anyone who doesn't share your opinion is wrong is silly...opinions are subjective...even if a majority of people don't like a certain game it's OK for someone else to like it
Your ridiculous. Again, it's always strawman arguments with you. Have you got anything else?
you might not like From Software games...I think they are some of the best games of all time...I respect the fact that the games may not be for you
I haven't played any From Software titles. However, I have played a few souls-like games and enjoy them.

nuance seems to escape you often...here's an inverse for you...gameplay can be good and character models can be bad...you're telling me you've never enjoyed a game like this?...everyone has...race swapping and DEI have been going on long before Sweet Baby...where you in an uproar when they race swapped Jim Gordon in The Batman?...Nick Fury in the MCU...I could go on and on

Diabolical after poor reviews have dropped. But I know you're essentially a bot that only posts game library pics. This one could just be any online pic too since your name isn't on it anywhere.
I preordered, but I’m betting I’ll regret not just waiting for it to hit ps plus eventually.
Guaranteed this will be a free PS+ Essential tier game in a year or two if it doesn't sell 5+ mil by then.

There is a difference between a game having bad graphics or being dated in general but having good gameplay versus modern games that intentionally make characters ugly when they could easily do better. We saw this with Kay Vess in Star Wars Outlaws. The actor who played the protagonist in Jedi Fallen Order looks exactly like the actor. In Death Stranding, the protagonist looks exactly like the actor playing him. The character of Kay Vess looks nothing like the actress she was based on. She was made hideous on purpose. We've had the technology to do face scans and create exact models of people for more than a decade. The only reason why studios fuck this up is because they are doing it intentionally. As for the race swapping, that's too nuanced a discussion for you. Sometimes it's fine and sometimes it isn't. The difference comes down to the underlying reason for the swap. The race swapping itself is less important than the reason it was done.

I told the guy in Electronics about the IGN rating he didn't know it was bad. I bet we sell out our Hard Copies. Then a regular worker was going to the Bathroom said it would be a good game for her.

I wonder if they'll patch out the extra hand holding elements (multiple objective markers, no-fail QTEs, etc) on day one.

Then a regular worker was going to the Bathroom said it would be a good game for her.
#1 or #2?

you repeat your same boiler plate answer every time when you don't know how to answer- "it's too nuanced to discuss"...stop it...you don't have any good answers so you repeat nonsense...let me guess this straight...race swapping is now OK for you depending on the reasoning behind it...lol...and how do you determine the reasoning?...let me guess...those 2 words that trigger you- Sugar Baby...or some random nobody from YouTube or reddit going nuts is your official source?

the point being that you don't know the reasoning behind it...you're just rationalizing in your head or making up reasons based on your feelings...the only person hat gets to determine that reasoning is the writer/director of the movie or game director in terms of a video game

as far as making characters look a certain way...you obviously have no clue how it works behind the scenes...they hire a mocap actor/actress...it doesn't mean they are going to make a photorealistic copy of that person in the game...it depends on what the director wants that character to be...sometimes they may need to look rougher or uglier or prettier etc...again it's up to the game director...it's not you or other fans that get to decide...if you want to play a role in that then go get hired by the developer in the Art department or creative side...until then you have zero say in it...it's baffling that you actually talk about the "underlying reasons" and you have no idea who is in charge of those reasons

you're a member of an online forum, not a video game Director or movie/TV showrunner
Come on polonlyc2, it's blatantly obvious that there has been a concerted effort for more than 10 years to uglify female characters, and push modern audience political messaging. And it's clearly not profitable or wanted and has been losing companies billions of dollars. And you don't need to be a Director or movie/tv show runner to know that. My grandfather was a director/producer/writer/show runner for movies and television, and there's zero chance he would have pushed this stuff in his work, as it's financial suicide in the long run. This is entertainment, people expect to be entertained, not lectured to by hideous cat ladies with man jaws and an Adams apple. There was some political messaging in his work, but it mostly had both sides. And no I'm not going to say what he's made as I don't feel like making it easy for people to dox me.

He doesn't understand because he's one of them. He's been given hundreds and hundreds of examples in the form of financial data, sales numbers, reviews, player feedback, etc. He genuinely doesn't understand any of it so he blows off all data that doesn't coincide with his views then creates these painfully simplistic strawmen counter arguments then throws tantrums when said arguments fall apart. This has been an ongoing discussion for years and he still doesn't understand the core argument of the topic and refuses to let it go.

play games you enjoy...don't worry about nonsense such as DEI, ugly characters etc...I choose to play for the gameplay, combat, graphics etc...I don't worry about if a character is hot or not...I see hot females outside in the real world

Yet, you have to argue with everyone who disagrees with you (which is most of [H])... Maybe it's time you take your own advice.

Touching again on your inability to understand any form of nuance, no one is bitching about the fact that these character models aren't "hot" it's the fact that they are intentionally ugly, bordering on mild disfigurement. Nathan Drake and Elana weren't "hot" in any way. Neither would get a second look when passed on the street but they weren't ugly or awkward looking like so many characters in games today and yes, there are numerous common links between these ugly characters and the studios they come from.

it takes 2 people to argue...everything you say applies to yourself but of course you don't see it that way...and again your lack of willful mis-understanding is showing...I've said it over and over- I don't care if the character is ugly...I've played as demons, animals, scarred humans etc...combat, level design etc matter much more to me...when a game is lacking in those areas is when I choose not to play a game...you're obsessed with male/female looks in video games, I'm not

No, actually, it doesn't. Dan_D, myself and others could be having a civil discussion about the commonalities of the hideous character direction in a lot of these modern games and you'll come riding in on your mildly retarded white horse screaming about the evils of supermodels and big tits or some similarly irrelevant BS while missing the entire point of the conversation. The fact that you are unable to distinguish the type of ugly you'd expect to see from a demonic or monstrous character and the type of ugly these main characters are says all anyone needs to know about you and your inability to participate in a nuanced discussion about these character designs and the intent behind them.

So, maybe next time, instead of being a tantrum throwing white night in a strawman outfit you move on and leave the conversation to people who understand what is being discussed.

continue living in your delusional world where you think you are speaking for the majority of people...you are a small minority, you are irrelevant...you can continue to think you are affecting sales in a major way or having some big impact on the world when you are not

Wolverine is not getting great reviews because of the gameplay...but of course the usual Dreamers will take credit and say it's because of ugly characters lol

play games you enjoy...don't worry about nonsense such as DEI, ugly characters etc...I choose to play for the gameplay, combat, graphics etc...I don't worry about if a character is hot or not...I see hot females outside in the real world

“I choose to play”, lol. You’re clearly ok with agenda politics being injected into games likely because they align with your own. You wouldn’t know however because even though you’re the most active member in the gaming section you…don’t…play…games…

Again, you seem to really struggle understanding how words work and there are no delusions here. No one said we speak for the majority, we are discussing our views on the subject and the numbers that have been posted on dozens of occasions seems to point to the fact that these views are not held by an insignificant minority but quite the opposite. The delusion here is that you think you are part of this discussion in any meaningful way. The fact is that we are over here discussing one thing while you are sitting in the corner arguing something completely different, not understanding that we aren't arguing your points but trying to explain to you that the points you are arguing have nothing to do with the larger topic at hand.

I'm going to try to make this as easy for you to understand as I can. We understand that you don't care about art direction in games, or the politics behind that direction and that's fine, no one here really gives a shit, Hell, I'd go so far to say as we are happy for you that you don't give a shit about that and are willing to play anything, no matter what it looks like but that's not the discussion at hand and because you don't give a shit you literally aren't capable of adding anything meaningful to said discussion. Next time, when your little compulsion to reply to a post on this subject hits you just say "I don't care about the character design of this game or the politics of the developers, I think it looks fun and I'm going to play it." See that? Problem solved, we are reminded that you don't care and we don't have to read all your nonsensical rebuttals that do nothing to move the discussion forward.

next time you repeat the exact same things about every new game and the ugly characters or DEI or Sugar Baby you can do the same thing...it's literally the exact same thing...nothing new is being added to the discussion, it's just a different game...GTA 6...rinse and repeat...Wolverine...rinse and repeat...Witcher 4...rinse and repeat...so what exactly is the value you think you are adding by repeating the same lines in every gaming thread?

you are right that I don't care about the politics aspect...I only care about the gameplay

that's not accurate...I haven't gamed in 16 months...that's not the same thing as saying I never game...I still have my new build parts sitting in my room...who knows when I'll be back...even with my time off I bet I still have more hours in Dark Souls, DS2, DS3, Sekiro etc than you do...so does that mean that you don't game as much as me?

The difference here is that this is an ongoing issue that multiple forum members are discussing because it negatively impacts games they would otherwise enjoy. This is something you claim doesn't bother you, yet you lack the self control to remove yourself from a discussion you have nothing to add to... or maybe you know they are correct and get triggered because it's your delusional, low IQ, agenda pushing people ruining these games.
