No thread about the framework laptop?

At this time I am more curious how the Ryzen AI Max 395 is that Framework offers. It is a bit more expensive than the competition, wondering whether that is backed by any advantages.

Plus the question whether FreeBSD runs on it...

The performance of a Framework shouldn't be noticeably different than most of it's competition as it's just packaging another company's silicon. Framwork's difference comes in the physical packaging of the products, repairability, part interchangeability, etc. For example, I have a 'standard' Framework 13. I can punt the motherboard out of it, swap in the brand new Panther Lake framework 13 motherboard and after installing new drivers externally it's the same product, but i upgraded it. Or the reverse is true, I can buy the new "pro" chassis, and slap my old motherboard in it. So externally I get the benefits of the new chassis without buying new RAM, disks, etc.

That's framework in a nutshell. Also they've now done this for like 5 or 6 years, while continuously supporting older customers. That's their whole thing.
 
My other half is still carrying on with my original 11th gen vewrsion. If she needs more HP then thats an easy situation to deal with. Just buy last years/gen board at discount.
 
Now that the 13 Pro is out I'm salivating to get the new chassis. I'd love to get the panther lake board but the lpcamm memory is hilariously expensive. As soon as they sell the chassis kit I'm going to get it in swap my AMD 7040 series motherboard into it.
 
To make matters worse, even without the AI apocalypse, there's a 30%+ markup on Intel Ultra Series 3 from the start. That's why the cheaper wildcat lake exists, though it's crap by comparison, but it gets people confused into thinking they are getting a "deal" when paying what Panther Lake (the good ones with good igpu) should cost to get the poor performing Wildcat Lake. Intel being Intel. Not saying that Ryzen didn't start the overprice with their "halo" (should have been a pitchfork).
