If a female character has flaws and depth, they are by definition not girl bosses. Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor are not girl bosses.

Those characters had writers who were actually good at their craft. These writers want us to know what sequins are.
 
I wouldn't call those "girl bosses" either, just awesome protags who happen to be female. "Girl boss" is something more specific.
 
The ten commandments of writing a girlboss:

  1. The girlboss always succeeds at everything on her first try
  2. The girlboss outperforms seasoned masters of the craft on her first attempt
  3. The girlboss can do no wrong, it's always a man's fault if something goes wrong
  4. The only obstacle between a girlboss and her goals are men keeping her down
  5. The girlboss never needs to improve, train or learn, she is already the best from the start
  6. The girlboss can never be lead around by a man, she only leads
  7. The girlboss needs no men, her male followers are always bumbling buffoons
  8. The girlboss needs no help, she gets out of every situation on her own
  9. The girlboss has no love interests, she only uses men as fucktoys
  10. The girlboss has no discernible personality or interests
 
I’m going to cancel my cancel my Wolverine PS5 controller and buy this instead. I don’t need 3 controllers and this looks like it’ll be fun.
 
what's a good example of a girlboss, I honestly am not sure I come across those very often... main chick from this game doesn't seem like one (to me)

Sarah Connor, Ellen Ripley, Alice Abernathy, Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine and Beatrix Kiddo are a few if we are talking movies.
