Final Fantasy VII Revelation (Remake Part 3)

Looking forward to it and will likely playthrough Remake and Rebirth again before Revelation.

As long as performance and image quality match Rebirth on PS5 Pro, I will probably stick with Playstation for the game.

I was going to be pretty annoyed if it was PS5 exclusive. Glad it's day and date on PC!

It is nice that the wait won't be so long this time. Essentially 2 years after Rebirth. I will say that Rebirth did burn me out. Way too much filler content.

WAY too much, like holy shit. And there's a bunch of Materia and shit behind it as well that you otherwise miss if I remember right.

I'm pretty sure it can account for like literally 2/3rds of the game time if you do everything.

Remake was already pretty badly padded to be honest, but Rebirth was just ridiculous.

Costa del Sol was absolutely killing me. 15 minute fun excursion in the original and like FIVE HOURS in Rebirth.

The ship before just couldn't be the ship, we needed a card tournament or some bullshit to make it way longer. And then it's immediately more borderline irrelevant horse shit for literal hours once you hit Costa del Sol. The pacing is really just absolutely awful because the game has zero concept of how to handle a palate cleanser. It just turns _everything_ into an absolute slog. Nothing can be subtle or just enough to give you a breather before you're back on your way, it absolutely needs to drag every single event out to the illogical extreme.

If I recall one of Aerith's best weapons was behind some side activity, and very late game. Kind of odd she missed it for most of the game and it is easy to miss entirely despite having it early on in Remake. Too much is hidden behind side content, like the fate of some characters, region lore, and upgrades. If you skip a lot of the side content you will be under powered. In games like this "side content" isn't really optional, it is almost mandatory to get proper gameplay variety.

For part 3 there have been some semi conflicting responses from the developers. They claimed it would be more streamlined, but then walked that back and said there would be the same amount of "content" as Rebirth. I hope what they do is keep it streamlined for proper leveling, easier access to weapons and lore, but after you finish the main story it unlocks an extra 20-30 hours of the same side content for those that want to play everything.

Some good game information in this video.

Biggest thing for me was they recognized the 'filler' (though they called it something like "too much to do") and it sounds like instead of putting powerful materia behind the mini-game progression, they'll instead put more cosmetic items. Truthfully, I enjoyed most of the minigames (excluding the flying chocobo one), but it was the 'rinse + repeating questing' open world setup for each zone that was the problem. Still a lot better than FF XVI, I guess.

Also, the FITS system sounds cool. Basically the JOB system brought into FF VII. Which is great, probably my fave JRPG system and it makes party management a lot more interesting (I could have party members setup more as healers or tanks, and switch them as needed).

I've tried to play Rebirth multiple times on PS5, but I keep getting stuck at various minigame required sections that I drive me crazy or keep failing at. Somehow the devs really worked in the most boring and/or frustrating crap to complete in order to move forward.

Currently at the prison trying to get past the card game in Costa Del Sol. I really can't stand being held up from exploration & story progress.

I'm not sure how I feel about the next segmented part...

The mini games are not that hard but very annoying. I just can't get past the ubislop like quest design. 15 minute story part are dragged out to 5 hour slogfests. I tapped out when I got to Cosmo Canyon. I couldn't do it anymore. All I wanted is a faith remake with improved graphics amd QoL improvements from the game.

For me Gongaga is when I felt the story started to drag on too much. The good story bits and momentum seemed to slow down too much there. It was a pain in the ass to navigate there to. Cosmo canyon was better, but again, too much to get side tracked with. Other region after that was also dragging on too much.

I'd really love the main story to have 20+ hours shaved off. It would still be a 60-65 hour game. I'm okay with more mini games opening up, they should just become available after beating the story once and be there when you reload a chapter. Things like region background lore being locked behind mini games and whatnot was just annoying. It makes it a pain in the ass to level up properly to.

There is a lot of seemingly contradictory information about the size and mini game content which I assume is partially due to interviews loosing information in translation. Seems like you can earn most combat based rewards (materia and items) without doing excessive amounts of mini games which is good. But I question how much mini game experience would be needed. Even if you get good materia you'll probably want to level up a bit more and if requires playing most of the mini games, then it really isn't optional. Likewise if they lock character interactions or story elements behind hours of mini games. I really hope 80% or more of them are truly optional. And that the good side missions are easy to find and it isn't tedious shifting through the crap to find the things worth playing.

The game world itself seems to be bigger. Hard to tell how long the main story and good side missions will be relative to Rebirth. They say it has more "content" and other similar terms, but I assume that includes the over abundance of mini games. Suppose the only thing we can do is wait for people to play and finish the game to see if the actual story/side mission content/length is similar. shorter or longer.

I just know the pacing of the main story beats is going to be absolute shit, but maybe I'll be surprised since basically all the craziest shit happens now.

This shit reminds me of an Ubisoft open world. I'm just flying from point to point trying to make number go to 100%.

If this is more of Rebirth then fuck that shit cause my OCD craves the 100% and it is an utter slog.

It will be. The bloat will be even worse then rebirth. The just copy and paste the qorst of open world slop.

thats why i ignored most of it, at least where i could. ill still play it 'cause i have to finish it...
Nope. I taped out at cosmo canyon. I have no intention to go back. It was such a boring slog of a game. Final fantasy resonance is by far more exciting to me.

Denuvo will be added to this. Was not in the first two games, but it does get a day 1 PC release. I suppose this is the extra "effort" going into the day 1 PC port. I am glad it is coming day 1 to PC but I hope they decided to put a bit more effort into optimization and PC centric settings, but I doubt it.

I'm amused to see others hating on Cosmo Canyon. That was the point where I gave up my last care and just full skipped all the dialog to finish it ASAP.

And Red's voice reveal was dumb.

Concerning. The stutter in part 2 was abysmal. Had to find an optimization mod to reduce (but not eliminate) the hitching. If the word about Denuvo impacting performance is accurate, that's no good.

Killed the character for me. I felt like Red died to.

Generally it does not seem to do much, mainly adds some CPU impact on low end CPUs. But for all we know a new version will be out next year that is worse. The annoying thing is Denuvo games are bypassed day 1 with a Hyervisor based bypass. These have performance issues and you need to disable Windows security features, but it is an option. There is also a cracker who cracks the latest Denuvo games. Chances are they do a proper crack shortly post release. Point being paying for Denuvo currently is a waste of money regardless of potential performance impacts. It just puts a daily install limit on legitimate customers.

Denuvo has been cracked relatively recently. It has been solid blocking piracy for a the past few years.

I agree, very dumb.

And the Cosmo Canyon section was one of my favorite parts of the original.

I feel like it kind of came across weird in Rebirth in general. Like it didn't have the same spiritual town kind of vibe or something it did in the original.

They turned it into like a preachy hippie camp or something.

I dunno I'm general I feel like these games have tried WAAAAAY too hard to reinvent sections and add "character."

I unironically think they could cut like half of remake and rebirth and the games would just straight up be better.

I was mulling over saying something similar and the word 'hippies' did come to mind. Yeah, it was a weird vibe. Maybe some of that was in the localization.

Hopefully there isn't too much fluff and filler in part 3. Disc 2 of the original was full of cool stuff, and getting crazy equipment from the various secret stuff that unlocked in disc 3 was rewarding. I missed that there wasn't any killer must-have materia or gear from the side content in Rebirth.
