Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

yeah this game was pretty intimidating at first, when I got a sense of how saves work and how bad at combat I was lol.. ngl.. but it's so so beautiful ... so I added a few mods which made a huge difference for me personally... F5 to save anytime has been the most helpful. Also some reduction in the crafting time and rebalanced damage. Those really helped me enjoy the whole game a lot more without taking much of the immersion away... and I know this is meant to be a simulation of medieval life... but alas it is a game and I wanted these QoL features in my game. and again damn it is so impressive what they did with that Crytek engine. I still find myself wandering about just gazing at the landscape and all of the little details.. wow!

edit: I am still pretty early on.. I just saved pavlena (peacefully... sort of) and settled the land dispute (peacefully)... I need to get my horse and find mutt now.
The game runs buttery smooth at 1440p ultrawide res with ultra presets 240fps cap.. it is one of the better running games I have played in a while with all of it's IQ glory enabled also! The engine is very snappy, great smooth feel while moving around / minimal latency.

Is it more difficult than the first one? I'm not that fan of hand to hand combat, so went for bow and arrow in that game, and when you get your hands on some better equipment and have trained a bit, it is not difficult to get most soldiers to give up the ghost after getting an arrow or two to the face.

I found it easier due to the sword Master Strike skill, but not sure if it was due to that or just having played through KCD1 and understanding combat.

I've heard that sword is the really only viable weapon because of I guess master strike skill or whatever it was called. That was like the main complaint I saw over the combat besides still being somewhat janky over KCD1.

You are doing it wrong then, bow/crosbow with arrows/bolts dipped in Dollmaker poison (make enemies unable to run) meaning you can drop them nicely with arrow/bolts. and maces/warhammers are also deadly, especially against high amour enemies so I think you should stop listing to whomever told you that false info.

In the first game or second? It was in multiple reviews I watched for kcd2.

My late game fights usually involved hitting the most armored looking target with the crossbow (hoping my bleeding perk activated), using a mace and shield for multiple combatants (extra protection against arrows, effectiveness against armor), and then a longsword when it's a smaller amount of combatants or a one vs one duel. Dollmaker poison is also great.

The master strike is effective, and can be a bother to fight against when a enemy has the skill, but once you know how the mechanics of it works, it's easy to avoid being setup for it.

Talking about the game really wants me to do another playthrough - loved that game so much.

His listed tactics work well in both the first and second. Just KCD2 introduces master strikes, so some of the original tactics, need to be a little more thought out (so your mace regular strike isn't countered with a sword's master strike).

Yeah it sounds like the master strikes are just cheese once you get good at them. That's why people like swords. But then I guess the later level enemies don't easily get cheesed and you have to work them into a master strike situation with feints and setup strikes? I haven't gotten far enough to see.

Warhorse Studios Allegedly Fired Its Translator, Claiming Their Position Was Made “Obsolete” by AI

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 developer Warhorse Studios has allegedly fired its in-house voice-over director, Czech to English translator and editor, Max Hejtmánek suddenly and without warning, after telling him that his role was made "obsolete in favor of using AI for all translations going forward"...

Hope this isn't the guy that wrote Henry's scripted lines, some of the best parts of that game was Henry explaining his way out of a situation.

Oh look ... another company to never support ever again.

Can't say I blame them. Why pay someone to do a job that a software program will do for free? In the same vain, all of the auto workers who lost their jobs back in the late 90's when automation lines that assemble cars without the need for human workers became affordable. Or when the Automobile replaced the horse and carriage, putting all of those carriage craftsmen out of work. The cellphone probably ruined the calculator business ect ect. It won't be long before auto driving cars put all truckers, uber drivers, taxi drivers, ect out of business. Times change and technology shapes the types of jobs that are in demand so we must adapt.

This isn't that. AI is doing a worse job than the people they're replacing.

Can't really say that if they haven't made a game without the guy yet. Obviously the guys who run the company feel differantly. Time will tell I guess.

Nobody wants AI voice overs replacing real people. This isn't an area anyone wants or asked for dude.

AI use isn't free. An enterprise translation service can be anything up to $40k/month depending on how much you need to translate. Your analogy is also poor. Those technological advances didn't put millions of people out of work like we're seeing now. And people want to be creative, not babysit automated output.

Is it really worse than a localizer inserting their own politics and Gen alpha internet lingo?

The dystopian future is to babysit AI output. We're all going to be managers, if not of people, then of agents

To be fair, the end goal would be that AI/Automation handles all production, and we move towards a system where people no longer need to work for a living.

Either way they are saving money by paying for AI software vs paying for employee's so it's better than free from their perspective. Having a calculator app on your phone probably killed any reason to make a calculator and those companies that used to make them are either gone or severely reduced. Thats what happens when new technology makes certain industries and jobs irrelevant throughout history. When the automobile replaced the horse and carriage, it gutted carriage building jobs but opened up new jobs in automobile building which required an entirely different skill set and a whole new range of employment. In the same way that AI development and AI integration in most fields are highly sought after skills that pay well. If AI makes more jobs unnecessary than anything that came before it, it's probably because it has a greater scale because is more groundbreaking and effective.

If AI is doing a worse job than the humans they are replacing then the bottom line will be effected regarding sales and customer satisfaction. This is a balance and the people running these companies either disagree that AI is doing a worse job or they are simply exploring the possibilities and testing it out. Remember that generative AI photos and the mindless mob that hates AI because of it doesn't represent AI usefulness in other industries like finding a cure for cancer or improving the lives of people with disabilities.

Crunchyroll and many games/ anime from Japan are a perfect example of why many fans would rather have an accurate translation instead of a human "activist" one.

Very utopian in hopes
The problem is we're very soon going to hit a point where AI puts so many people out of work, the greater economy is going to feel the strain. The long-term solution *has* to be almost full automation, because I don't see how any economic system remains viable if we're living in a world where 10-15%+ of the population is permanently out of work.

That being said, it's far more likely the 21st century is defined by advances in technology leading to total societal collapse.

The economic system does not have to remain viable. It can completely crumble. It has happened all over the place throughout our history. I sadly agree that it is leading towards societal collapse.

Oh well, at least companies will make a few extra bucks on the way down.

If the end result is good, then I wouldn't mind. AI is a tool. If it can be used properly and creatively, then why should it be frowned upon if a studio can produce good results with it?

I've heard some pretty pathetic voice-overs in games and I've heard some incredible singing performed by AI.

Anything replacing people isn't a tool. I'd rather have pathetic voice overs than amazing AI.

what people want is not AI voice over replacing actor.

But they will want voice versus absence of voice (in small budget games or big one but custom characther like Baldur Gates 3)
Voice performance that fully integrate non-scripted event/situation, injured-tired-angry-etc... that change the voice and text, voice over unscripted text and so on

I'd rather have no voices with subtitles than AI voices. I don't want AI. Period. Regardless of the reason.

The cost of AI is actually showing to cost more than the employees they are supposed to be replacing.
Not in gaming studios.
It is like the claim that RT would cost more than raster in games and no comapines are dropping baking lightining in games.

Keep screaming at windmills with false data but expect me to ignore your lies.

And you can keep gobbling on that AI dong. I prefer to support humanity though, thanks.

This whole AI vs humanity black & white discussion is just tiring. AI sucks and is a threat to things we like in certain areas, but is also good and an improvement in other areas.
It's a case by case thing, not Luddites vs Spinning Jenny FFS.

Did you had over the last 45 years that strong of opinion with say musician played with instruments music and with tools sound effect versus midi/synthesizer/drum machine/computer generated one ? if not, what the main difference here ?

Lot of human control in a midi track of course, but that will be true with how much directing decision they will make in those prompt (that will be themselve doing some read to influence how it end up in the important scripted moments)

Mixing music on the computer is not generating music with AI. Also, this is an idiotic comparison.

Not talking about mixing music, creating it fully by computer (no instrument were played and recorded to put in a mix later on), in both case we remove the human performance of the loop to put the decision in the hands of a human controlling the midi note or the acting performance coming out of the computer.

Will see in 15 years, chance are midi to create music performance and its equivalent to create voice performance will feel quite the same and the long list of advantage it give small studio, that you will end up prefering its use to the absence of voice track in small game and the custom-unscripted reacted to what you did voice in big one will be seen as an obvious plus.

Please stop. It's insulting to everyone's intelligence, including yours.

I expected that type of non-answer quite a bit.... that vocal performance would feel to some quite different than playing an instrument performance, but they would not be sure why, just a feeling. That would not be true of big music fan and musician that seek out music album that still use actual live recorded tracks of course, but people in general.
