What are you nerds playing this weekend?

Tried Titan Quest 2 on Sunday. Been in my backlog for over a year. I used to love action RPGs like Diablo 1&2, but got kinda bored with TQ2 after about 90 minutes. 🥱

I have a simple rule, Sweet Baby Inc involved in the production in any way or form = turning me into a non-buy-nary ASAP 🤷‍♂️
The game is decent. But would have easily sold more had they not implemented all the trademark sweet baby things that destroy immersion. I wouldn’t have bought it if it wasn’t 75% off. Spoiler The female lead is clearly meant to be a white Swedish chick. All of the interactions with NPCs make it obvious with the way the script is written. The NPC distribution is more like you’re walking through the Bronx with a few fresh off the plane Afghans thrown in the mix, not some hard to get to small lake town in Washington state.

Finally nearing the end of my Gears journey and have moved on to Hivebusters...which is actually pretty fantastic. It's almost a shame nobody played it. Every achievement is listed as "rare," so whatever they did to promote it wasn't particularly effective. Initially I assumed it was some kind of MP or Horde expansion, but it's a full-on new single-player mission that's better than most of the stock Gears 5 experience.

Mainly Horizon:Forbidden West
Going to try that new The Division 2 incursion Broken Rain with randos, been watching videos and trying to get my DPS build up to par.

One of the following:

Death Stranding 2
Ghost Recon Breakpoint
Avatar Frontiers of Pandora
Black Myth Wukong

I already started Avatar/Black Myth last year got did not make it more than 2 hours.

Yeah I'm playing Avatar now with about 6hrs into it, and I'm not feeling it at all.

I also just finished Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition which is the VR game made into a flatscreen version and was much better than Avatar. But I'm biased when it comes to Alien anything.
Same with the Alone in the Dark remake which was pretty fun except for the fucking tree god at the end.

Also Cronos:The New Dawn was pretty interesting and fucking hard when it came to the bosses and regular gameplay. Still better than Avatar IMHO.

I didn't find that game hard at all. I think I am sure I played at the normal difficultly. It was decent though if you like RE style games. I think a standalone expansion is coming out soon for it.

Death Stranding (1) made me not want to play any more games in that IP (due to it being boring as F....)
Ghost Recon Breakpoint made me yawn (I am more to Arma series)
Avatars look okayish on "unobtanium settings", but hte gameplay = Meh

Black Myth Wukong was refreshing and I enjoyed it.

Play it on hard is all I gotta say. And New Game + was a hell no too.

Working my way through the Heretic remaster from Nightdive/Bethesda. I owned a retail copy of Shadow of the Serpent Riders back in the day, but it never grabbed me quite like Doom did and I'm not even sure that I ever finished the first episode. However, after giving it a proper try over 30 years later (lol), I must say that I've enjoyed it a lot. Currently on the 4th episode out of 5. It joins PowerSlave and Killing Time in the ranks of FPS games that I skipped back then, but have gained a new appreciation for after playing them and seeing what they did to change up the Doom formula with interesting ideas.

Picked these up on Friday -

Cultic: Chapter One
Crisol: Theater of Idols
Agent 64: Spies Never Die

I'll be starting season 4 with my North Texas Mean Green squad in EA College Football 27.
Took them to the quarter finals of the playoffs in year 2 and 3 but can't get over the hump there. Need to recruit some horses in the trenches as that is where I'm getting exploited at that stage of the season.

Was playing RDR2 until obviously College Football 27 came out unfortunately 🤣

After various and ubiquitous spam advertising, I tried Squad. It is a military 50 v 50 game that really scratches the itch for tactic based combat. The graphics are "aiight", but the possibility for teamwork is nice. It reminds me of the mod for Unreal Tournament called "Infiltration", no crosshairs, endurance mechanics, bullet drop. It's taking a bit to get gud, but it is fun - almost like a BF1942 writ large and more realistic.

Playing a bit more Timberborn. I keep trying to get something going on hard more, but just getting something started is not easy, especially on some of the more sparse maps. Sometimes you barely survive an 8 day draught, then after a couple days you see a badtide in 3, and it's something stupid like 10 days and you haven't even set up food stores, nevermind unlocking bigger water storage and the tech to build it. Oh, and you're out of wood because the previous badtide killed all the trees and you just started making planks so you don't have a forester yet. 😭

This time isn't going terrible yet. I did have to load a save because a 10 day badtide came and I had no water storage yet. I was trying to prepare for the first badtide, but I hadn't finished yet, and I didn't quite have a large water tank yet either. Would have, but because I was building levies, I ran out of logs.

Fallout 4

Compiling a post in a text doc to show what I've been working on before the update drops.
