Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

I never look at that data. Why does it matter if you don't notice it in the course of normal gameplay? I play games, not obsess over numbers.

In before "see, you don't actually know."
It doesn't matter at all, I was just curious. I had almost zero stutter on my 4080S. I think I noticed like 3 instances, 2 of which happened before I started fucking around with mods but I also only played for like 20 hours so it could have been worse in other areas.

Well, there is a practical difference.

If you are simply lucky enough to not be able to perceive frame time dips thst others can't ignore, then your comment adds nothing to the discussion, and the statement "I'm not getting any stutters" is wrong. The correct statement is "I don't notice any stutters"

If your particular hardware and software set up is such that there are OBJECTIVELY no issues where the vast majority (and so far, ALL who have objectively measured) of the other players ARE experiencing those issues, you may have the key to understanding how to resolve the issues.

exactly, subjectively it may not matter to him but objectively it doesn't mean he's not getting any stuttering...he just doesn't want to know by objectively looking at the frame time graphs...I can still enjoy a game even if I'm getting some stuttering which is why I still like looking at my numbers...Jedi: Survivor definitely had stuttering when I played it but I still really enjoyed the game

It’s been running well for me lately, totally happy with the performance at the moment. I was having issues with crashes but haven’t had one in a while.

Does anyone know what setting in this game will help this screen door effect? I've seen it on other UE based games and usually the Post Processing set to the highest will fix this, but it doesn't seem so in this game. I can't even tell if it is applying the settings correctly because I'm having soem of them (like frame cap) that reset every time I restart the game.

Kinda looks like a dithering feature of the game engine that a developer would have to change.

Inside one of the Oblivion Gates that wasn't that bad to close I guess there are 20 Gates in the Main Story and a bunch more after.
I just used Frost Spell on everyone which got them in 1-3 hits.

The The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered released - ESPN 2025 project (often referred to as a remake or remaster) uses Unreal Engine 5 for its updated visuals, lighting, and textures. The project maintains the original Gamebryo engine underneath to manage core gameplay logic, physics, and systems. It was developed by Virtuos and Bethesda.
Reddit +4

It's still GameBryo underneath not wonder I still like the game.

I wouldn't wish UE5 "optimization" on any game. 3 decades of development and most developers still haven't figured out how to effectively scale it to not be so reliant on single core performance.

The modding scene didn't really take off.

Maybe Bethesda doesn't like mods because then they can't sell their horse armor DLCs as much. I wonder if they have plans for something like this for TES 6

Is there a fix for the annoying cliff pop-in that occurs, even at Ultra view distance settings?
See example here--

I've tried a dozen different Engine.ini mods but none of them help with this. My PC handles the game well overall at Ultra settings, but this pop-in, exclusive to rock walls and various stone structures, is really distracting, especially when the grass and foliage don't suffer at all from this.
Any help would be deeply appreciated--thanks in advance!

Man I think back to this game every now and then and how disappointed I was with this remaster.

The UI is a downgrade compared to the original and it still has many bad bugs. I was so excited for it, Oblivion is my favorite TES game. I just wanted updated combat and a difficulty & leveling system that wasn't terrible. Instead we got better graphics but a worse UI, and the leveling while they did try to improve it feels like they didn't test it at all because its busted. Really bummed about it. No good mod support either.

What is worse is they totally teased us with updates, asking for feature requests and such. Just to give us molasses paced updates that barely addressed anything. They did my favorite game dirty.

The UI is the same as I remember it. Not having to micromanage skills for leveling up is definitely nice, but I would have preferred something like nGCD, where your attributes automatically go up over time as your skills level.

I mean the UI seemed kind of normal, but I always used mods so it's hard to remember what the original UI was

This was a waste of $$ for me. I loved Oblivion years ago but quickly got bored playing the remaster. Just couldn't get into it anymore. Think I played less than 20 hours.

Exactly my experience.

When I originally played Oblivion, day one, I was blown away by it. I remember playing it for hours and hours every night for at least six months.

The remaster made me feel nostalgic for a few hours, but ultimately I began to see how much gaming has evolved, and how shallow these older games actually are.

You actually expect that much from Bethesda? Selling you broken games while letting the community fix the issues while they are laughing all the way to the bank is the norm for Bethesda.

If you want the old fashioned elder scrolls experience, with less of the annoying parts, try tainted grail the fall of avalon. I'm surprised how much this resembles elder scrolls. No enemy scaling except the DLC though ("Oblivion is the best" fans didn't seem to hate that part).

There's a bit of stockholm syndrome going on with folks who keep buying their games

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered- Switch 2 vs PC Graphics Comparison

its also been said that work is being done to try and do a new patch for the PC version.

Personally, its always ran quite well on my PC.

The only problem I had, was that randomnly a game load/area load/save load might never complete. But, that went away.

I think its a case of a design that hasn't aged well. Not only that, but its just like everything else that both Bethesda and Obsidian has done for the last two decades. Meaning, the gameplay isn't nostalgic, its tired. Couple that with the fact that moving it off the Creation Engine means that it won't get the same mod treatment other Bethesda games get and you've got a recipe for a huge let down.

Agreed. It's a studio that doesn't ever learn or progress. If anything, they are regressing. They've used the same game design for two decades. It never changes. Loading screens can often be removed by mods showing you that these were deliberate design decisions. Same camera angles, wooden animations, blocky character designs, awful dialog, awful animations, mediocre combat systems. Compared to newer games like Cyberpunk 2077 and others, Bethesda games are clunky and old fashioned. The only thing that ever seems to improve with Bethesda games is the graphics. That's it.

In contrast:

Oblivion Remastered really surprised me, with how much I enjoyed it. And for me, it was like a top 3 game of 2025.

And to be clear, I didn't like Oblivion all that much, when it released.

I had some level of enjoyment until my save got corrupted and mega stuttering happened. Good old Bethesda.

I guess the good thing is you'll never be disappointed since they'll never actually release it! :D

We can always hope. The color mods of Remastered just don't do it for me. Remastered looks great in its own way, but it can't reproduce those Oblivion greens without messing everything else up.
