These are the current price ranges at the biggest retailer (on the plus side all are readily available in at least a dozen variants, even the 5090):

5050: $350 - $500
5060 : $450 - $600
5060 Ti 8GB: $550 - $800
5060 Ti 16GB: $850 - $1200
5070 12GB: $950 - $1300

Also put this in the context that minimum wage is $700 / month while the median wage is $1300 / month.

I have not been keeping up with AMD, so I don't know what would be the their equivalent offerings. But if you have a specific card in mind I can check the prices for it.
AMD doesn't really have equivalent offerings. At best the 9070XT lands somewhere around the 5070 to 5070 Ti mark.

Just noticed retailer prices for graphics cards go up quite a bit this morning. Used eBay prices haven't changed, yet.

I've seen some price creep the last few days here in Canada, but not unexpected considering the latest headlines.

The RX 9070 XT 16GB gets closer to the RTX 5070 Ti. Pure raster gaming, the RX 9070 and 9070XT are a better value. The only reason to get the RTX 5070Ti are for LLM's with CUDA, video editing with AV1, and better raytracing/pathtracing.

Cyberpunk2077 2K High Native:
RTX 5070 Ti 16GB (Overclocked) 158.28 FPS
RX 9070 XT 16GB (Overclocked) 155.82 FPS

RTX 5070 12GB (Overclocked, but with 270K Plus instead of 9850X3D) = 135.5 FPS

Out of curiosity, what specific issues were you having with the 7900XTX? You mentioned thermal ones, but was that translating into crashes/instability? Driver timeouts as well? I'm just trying to understand how widespread the issues are. AMD told me the card should run flawlessly at default settings, but everything I'm reading contradicts that idea. What's strange is my previous AMD card was an R9 280X which I had heavily overclocked and yet never experienced any problems. It was rock solid stable. I assumed most of the current Radeon issues stem from Adrenalin randomly cranking the shader clocks into unstable territory, but it shouldn't take AMD this long to fix an algorithm.

Intel's Lunar Lake performance gives me SOME home. The MSI Claw 8 AI+ performance is incredibly compared to AMD's competing offering, and gives me some hope, but on the other hand, Intel's also been disappointing me consistently since Skylake, so the burden of proof remains on them.

Lol, don't get me started on the decline of Canada. It's been visible for a decade now, but people here remain largely in denial, and Trudeau/Carney keep getting voted in primarily by a cohort of Boomers who live on defined benefit pension plans and spend half the year in Florida, where they presumably talk about how much better Canada is than the United States. They're insulated from the impact of the policies they vote for, so they have a very different perspective on what Canada is compared to anyone under age 45. My wife and I would love to move to the US, but Trudeau cranked the exit taxes we would have to pay to move and it just isn't worth it anymore, so we're just hoping for the best for our two kids.

I did see GN's video, but that's a "wait and see" for me. Competing in the GPU space right now is incredibly difficult. Nvidia, AMD, and Intel have the money, the patents, and the market reach that will make it difficult for new entrants without deep pockets. My bet would be the first viable competitor would have to come out of a place like China, where the CCP will give them whatever support they need since they need a domestic solution that is competitive. I could see a company like Huawei coming out with a decent chip, for example.

However, the 5070 non Ti was DOA and I had to send it back for another one. It was BSOD constantly after installation. Pull it, issues disappeared. Drop it in, instant failures within 2 minutes. Second one did the trick.

I saw that exit tax BS ... I instantly saw it for what it was, predatory. Meant to trap people. I hope things get better up there. We're family/neighbors by proximity after all.

I've RMAd GPUs to MSI, Zotac, EVGA, BFG, and Gigabyte and the service was great every time. I may not have been lucky with GPUs but the service was good after the sale.
 
You must have terrible luck with GPUs, lol. I only RMA'd one GPU and that was a PNY 6800GT twenty years ago.
That RMA record is over the last 30 years since the 3Dfx days. I purchase one of more cards every generation, so I don't consider it terrible.

Lol, yeah. I've only had issues with MSI graphics cards in the way past, GTX 275, GTX 460's, and R6970's. MSI must have had issues in the past with their cards in hindsight. Never had issues with RMA, and they sent me a GTX 460 when my GTX 275's went bad, so I stuck with them. Not sure how MSI graphics cards are nowadays, I haven't had one in a long time.

The standard failure rate is about 10-15 percent for any given core component in 90 days. It's actually more like 10 percent in the first few hours and the rest in the next few weeks. The more critical the more likely that the flaw becomes obviously fatal, like with memory and processors, while it can take longer for board component issues to noticeably compromise a system.

The only way to reduce this rate is for the manufacturers and builders to run longer stress tests on their components and builds, which dramatically increases prices.

Actually, you're right. My GTX 780 died, MSI sent me cash because it was basically at the end of the 3 year warranty period. I had completely forgotten about it. Service was fine. That was a long time ago though. I bought a Fury Nitro shortly after (ok card but probably a mistake).

The price increase is upon us. Micro Center near me delisted 90% of their 5070TI - 5080 only to relist them an hour later at +$200-400.

Yeah, they it started a few days ago, now it's official.

From my own tests, the RTX 5080 is about 11.09% faster at stock against an RTX 5070Ti, and 12.77% faster with both overclocked, in Cyberpunk2077 at 2K Native at High settings. This is with the best RTX 5070Ti I got to test with. The slowest RTX 5070Ti is 16.46% and 15.45% slower, respectively.
Both overclocked, the RTX 5080 is about 19.07% faster in Geekbench 7 CUDA tests, 15.06% faster in OpenCL, and 15.77% faster in Vulkan. The slowest RTX 5070Ti is about 28.13% slower in CUDA, 18.77% slower in OpenCL, and 18.09% slower in Vulkan.

Aside from gaming performance, the RTX 5080 has 1,800 AI TOPS vs the RTX 5070 Ti's 1,400 AI TOPS. For encoding, they both have the same number of encoders, but slightly better performance for the RTX 5080.

The RTX 5070Ti offers better value between them, but from just a gaming perspective, an RX 9070 XT is a better gaming value, especially if you only play games at native resolution with light raytracing.

Yeah that is quite terrible. If you are lucky enough to be on at least a 48** or AMD equivalent you can probably hold out, but for people on older GPUs or don't have one you're screwed. PC gaming is in major trouble in some parts of the world now. I assume PS5/Xbox are similarly expensive.

Jokes aside I think the monitor manufacturers are getting the hint as well. There was a news leak regarding ASUS OLED gaming monitors and most are 1080p. ASUS could explain it as esports models which I'm sure the 560Hz is for but the lower refresh rate 1080p monitors it is evidence that there is a realization that its almost financially impossible for most gamers to build or afford a 4K (possibly 1440p) gaming system for the foreseeable future.

4k 360 hz i might actually turn frame gen on for some games. Might be required when I'm on a 9070 xt in 4 years because a new card with similar performance will be 2 grand.
 
Things are going to get worse, before they get worser.
I'm so thankful I built my 98003d rig last July and when things started going crazy I managed to find a 5090 at BB of all places so I'm good.......but I feel really bad for the people that where between builds and are basically screwed.

Does it kinda feel like the whole self built computer industry is on life support right now to anyone else?

Same here. I managed to time all of this pretty damned well just kind of randomly. Did a couple rig upgrades including my main rig in the first half of 2025, both using DDR5. Also picked up 10TB of PCI-e 4 M.2 while I was at it. Then I went and snagged a 5090 in spring 2025.

But yeah, if I hadn't had that randomly near perfect timing and was still on a Covid era build I'd be pretty pissed right now.

5070 to 5070 TI is a large gap.

Comparing 9070 XT to 5070 TI is a little messy. But, overall, the 9070 XT is a good competitor to 5070 TI and 4080.

If you look at raster performance, its basically a wash.

For RT performance, it varies. Most of the time the 9070 XT keeps pace. There are a few games where it falls back to more like a 4070 TI Super, for RT. But the 9070 XT is basically always a clear advantage over a 5070. Plus, it has more VRAM.


The Regular 9070 is interesting, because its not that much worse. Its solidly a competitor to the 4070 TI Super. And generally still bests the 5070 in most cases. However, you could probably point out just the wrong game, and turn RT on, and find the 9070 looking more like a 5070.
Still.....9070 has 16GB of VRAM. And its wildly efficient on power use.

The only real drawback for RDNA4 with gaming, is that Path Tracing performance is too low to usually be usable. And even worse, most games with PT don't even support AMD. I don't think its a big deal. As I've personally only played 3 games where PT made an appreciable difference to the experience, for me.

Otherwise, its all there. They even caught up with their encoding quality, so you can stream with the best of 'em. AMD's ReLive is still a great piece of software which you can stream from, directly. Saving some performance over using OBS, etc.

(Nvidia's shadowplay doesn't support streaming).

And video editing apps have good AMD support, now.

If you thought consumer graphics card prices were bad, the situation isn't much better on the workstation front. According to an update on NVIDIA's marketplace, the company's flagship workstation card—the RTX PRO 6000 "Blackwell"—is now retailing for $16,000. This makes it the most expensive GPU that NVIDIA sells outside of its server offerings like the B200/B300, which come in the SXM form factor. Even for a graphics card equipped with 24,064 CUDA cores and 96 GB of GDDR7 memory, this price is astonishing and show just how much memory shortages are impacting GPU pricing. For a SKU that features 32 GDDR7 memory modules, each with a 3 GB capacity, any increase in supply chain costs is instantly multiplied by 32 for this very expensive component.

On the RTX PRO 6000 "Blackwell" GPU, there are 16 GDDR7 modules on the front side with the GPU die and 16 GDDR7 modules on the back of the PCB, effectively sandwiching the PCB. This results in 32 modules spread across the GPU. Back in late July, each 3 GB GDDR7 module cost about $60 to $70, so the total cost of the GDDR7 alone ranged from $1,920 to $2,240. This is the price of what is essentially a raw material, crucial for manufacturing this SKU. Considering that there might be additional GDDR7 price increases now, NVIDIA has priced its flagship workstation SKU at $16,000, accounting for many other component costs, such as MLCCs, which are also in tight supply.“

According to VideoCardz, both entry-level graphics cards and PC monitors are heading for price increases in the second half of 2026. PC Partner Group, the company behind ZOTAC, Inno3D, and Manli, outlined the situation in its financial results published August 14. The company describes the PC market as "highly challenging," with limited GPU and graphics memory supply already cutting into shipments. PC Partner expects graphics memory prices to rise further, warning of a "substantial increase in VGA Card costs" in H2 2026. Graphics card shipments already dropped significantly in the first half compared to H2 2025, and supply is expected to tighten further. Entry-level cards are specifically the ones to see "even more severe shortages," which will likely push their average prices higher. PC Partner's graphics card business suffered an 18.4% drop in unit sales during the first half of 2026 due to component shortages. Revenue from ZOTAC, Inno3D, and Manli fell 9.2% year-over-year to HK$4.46 billion. However, the average selling price of these graphics cards increased 10.7%.

On the monitor side, KTC has warned customers that the prices across its lineup may be going up. Rising component costs have reached a point where the company says it can no longer absorb them internally. KTC hasn't specified which models will be affected or when changes will take effect, and says it's still negotiating with suppliers to delay increases as long as possible. For now, existing prices remain unchanged, but the company is effectively telling buyers that current pricing may not last. KTC isn't alone, AOC recently notified distributors of price adjustments starting in August, citing higher costs across panels, power components, and manufacturing. As a side note, according to TrendForce's latest market research, global OLED shipments grew 26.1% QoQ in 2Q26 with ASUS extending its lead over Samsung and MSI closing the gap."
