There was a lot of absolute falsehood in the reporting about Blizzard and things were dishonestly blown out of proportion and out of context.... but I know some of those things to be true, or at least based on truth.

Hate Asmongold as much as you want but he is right on the money and I would even say he is mostly objective. If you disagree with his stance here, you are generally apart of the problem.

In this case, this was another fake #metoo movement bs. Just another example of our society trying to destroy men/testosterone.

On some things he's good. And on other things you can tell he's been given paid talking points he's meant to push hard from financial backers while pretending to be a normal take from a popular twitch streamer. It's just the current model of unconscious thought shaping that's used by advertisers, political movements etc. Most people can't tell the difference between the normal content and the faux content which is why it's effective currently. (I'm not picking on him, it's common among a lot of streamers as traditional news media isn't as effective as it used to be at thought shaping.)
 
I'm not disputing what Asmond is saying is false, I actually find him funny at times, and really have no beef with the guy, I just don't pay much attention to him nowadays like I maybe did few years ago during his WoW heydays. I would just like to see more sources and actual journalists discuss this in detail to prove it's true. For all know, this could be 100% spot on real, or somewhere in the middle?
 
I was reading a lot about that when it happened. My entire guild agreed to quit the game because of it. I don’t buy that it was all magically made up.

Most things are probably in the middle.

But part of the problem is, one side is held accountable, and the other side will never be even if they were 100% lying. And when you don't have equal rules, that tends to lead to a lot of abuse of the system.

As far as reporting, how often do you hear about retractions on the front page, especially when your entire ecosystem (i.e. reporters) tend to be of a political persuasion that's against the people being vindicated?

It is true that the WoW team did have at least one particularly toxic person that was not promptly addressed by leadership.

I know, for a fact, that some good talent left the WoW team specifically because this person was not addressed.


But reading the blogosphere at the time you'd think that Blizzard was just condoning one big game of corporate grab ass.

Mostly good info in my experience, and note that Jason focuses a lot on one particular individual from the WoW team. You might consider who led the WoW team during a lot of this period and who (temporarily) led Blizzard....

A few things:
This illustration of Kilgore and Battle.net is unfairly/improperly misleading, maybe deliberate or maybe by omission. It vilifies Ben in a way that I don't think is fair or appropriate.

Lots of people caught stray bullets because the media frenzy misrepresented their part or the whole story. Kosak getting fired when he was actually the good guy is *not an isolated situation* and should be seen as cautionary for how community cancel-culture makes it worse.

In reacting to the media attention Blizzard responded in so many wrong ways that they made their own situation worse while trying to save face. "Gamer culture" doesn't help here but plenty of double-face-palm failures were not from gamer bros they were from corporate responders trying and failing to get ahead of the narrative.

Jason does a good job clarifying the Cosby Suite. His description of that as a nothing burger is completely accurate AFAIK.
He doesn't spend the time to talk about other stories that circulated at the time that we're completely untrue.

Jason never stirred the pot on the Cosby BS. But Jason has had a hardon for Blizzard news for 15 years.

It was well known, though, that any drama would leak to Jason.
