Valve Steam Machine, SteamOS Desktop, Steam Frame VR and Steam Controller

That's a pretty clever name, too. Not that I need *another* PC (especially since I just got an eGPU added to my Ryzen 255 mini PC), but who's Meta PCs? Never heard of them before.
Literally no clue.

MikeTrike should have given the dang link...

The case is HUGE vs the GabeBOX!

I almost thought the AI was gonna go further, and it went a completely different direction after detecting the mocking... They most certainly are not the same device.

SteamOS is possibly the fire that finally gets Linux gaming going for the masses. I am seriously thinking about installing it on mu gaming PC and just use my laptop for general computing once Nvidia is supported.

you know this will sell out and you know that because rich middle age gamers with giant purchassing power are by the millions now.
Dude fr though, look at legos. Stupid stupid stupid expensive now. Look at pokemon cards. insane.

It is crazy the amount of money man-children spend on their toys now. There is a reason the birth rate has plummeted. I don't mean to sound judgey about it but like have you seen the funko pop collections of some of these people 😭😭 No plans to have a family, just want to consume. This is why even if the economy is going to shit I think people will just continue buying stuff. They just won't have families or save up for a house (both are things that are becoming increasingly out of reach for my generation, but again I see some of the stupid junk I see my peers buying and just... self inflicted at that point man)

I spend a lot of money on my toys (bicycles, motorcycles, 3d printing, etc) ... but that's because my house is paid off and I don't have kids. Win-Win.

Shuhei Yoshida isn't being honest here.
  1. 3D performance is generally the same as a PS5 according to Digital Foundry.
  2. PS4 only did 1080p 80% of the time, with 20% of games using 900p with dynamic resolution scaling.
  3. I don't know about the loading speed. I don't see any benchmarks of the GabeCube vs PS5
That being said the GabeCube is more expensive than a PS5 Pro.

"generally the same" - shows Steam Machine losing to base PS5 in 4 out of 7 examples/comparisons - winning in 2 and it ties in 1

PS4 only did 1080p 80% of the time,
well that make the statement fair enough if that the case... same for the 3d performance being meh at that price point if they are about the same as the $400 PS5 digital edition of the fall of 2020... with the price and release date the better comparable would be the PS5 pro ?

Losing around 5 fps vs the PS5 is generally the same. Also matching the "settings" of the PS5 is subjective since the PS5 doesn't have settings. They're just trying to match the output of the PS5 with their eyes. Keep in mind that since it's based on RDNA3 then that means it can get FSR4.1 where the base PS5 can't. We know Valve will continue to optimize games for their machine, while the PS5 can't. Look at Baldur's Gate 3 where Windows on Proton is faster than the native Linux port.

Also, the GabeCube did sell out. Not sure if due to limited production?

It's limited production. Valve simply doesn't have the scale to match Microsoft, Nintendo, or Sony.

Also, matching a six-year-old console's performance for hundreds of dollars more isn't something to brag about, even if the factors behind it aren't entirely in Valve's control.

I'm of the opinion that Valve will measure the success of the Steam Machine on not how many they sell, but how much the total install base of SteamOS increases. Every extra install is another linux user giving developers more financial incentive to give more optimisation time for linux.

We're already talking about the PS6 which is maybe 2 years away. Also, the PS5 Pro is faster and costs less. GabeCube is not the deal of the century.

Exactly. I really hope Valve doesn't stick with the existing specs for long as the Steam Machine just doesn't have legs in its current state. Imagine jumping to the PS6 launch era — that system will probably decimate a Steam Machine for as much money or (hopefully) less.

The Steam Deck has lasted both due to the lower expectations for handhelds and a lack of meaningful chip updates. It's fine to play a game at 800p in low settings when the alternatives are either more expensive or far bulkier laptops, and even a Z2 Extreme isn't a big-enough hardware improvement. I'm not expecting annual Steam Machine updates, but Valve can't just sit on these specs for years.

Would run circles around Gabe Cube. Install SteamOS, CachyOS or Bazzite and would be good to go. $1,199.99

Dual Channel too?
One thing to note is that x3d chips do an amazing job not being ram sensitive when gaming.

Timings and dual channel don’t affect them nearly as much as lower cache CPUs. Generally the difference is less than 5%.

It’s a different story when doing other tasks but gaming specific the X3d is unmatched for price / performance CPUs

My first SteamOS official test.

Intel Dell SFF with an AMD W6400 4GB, installed fine. Only issue was no ability to do the OOB setup with the Steam Controller, it needed an update first, so I had to use the keyboard. Otherwise flawless so far.
This may have been because I had my Bazzite rig on the Beta channel. When I moved the controller back to my Bazzite rig it had to "update" the controller again. I'm not certain because I'm not going to test anything further, just something I noticed.
