So one of the things with streaming is that you aren’t getting a typical video input/output. You’re getting en encoded video, like you’re watching YouTube. No VRR with streaming.

MS I believe is guessing there will not be anything near the power of their hardware at that price.
You will be buying a locked down PC-console sure, but it should be the best of both worlds for many. And of course software will be tailored for its specs.
 
That would be a credible threat if there were any new games actually worth playing. As it stands, basically a gtx 1060 is all you need to play anything decent throughout history.

That's sad because there isn't a technical limitation it couldn't be.
 
I wonder if the era of traditional consoles nearing its end? Like as PC becomes more popular and even MS is okay putting all of their games on PC now, that leaves Sony and Nintendo. But also except for a very select few games that are exclusive on those systems, most major 3rd party games now come to all platforms, including PC.

Consoles will never die, always a market for people who want to play games without messing with a computer - but outside of that we're already past the era of traditional consoles ending - whether that was where we are now with next XBOX being a PC hybrid - or when they started making pro consoles - or when Nintendo stopped making a 'traditional' console with Switch

Consoles have a lot of problems, and hardware is just one of them. Consoles don't need to be powerful, just capable enough. The Switch is a prime example of a machine that was so weak that potato PC's can emulate it with ease, but yet the console sold extremely well due to low cost and high quality games. Sony and Microsoft see the PC market eating their lunch with what they think is superior gaming performance, but that's only part of the reason why PC gaming is so popular. PC gaming's main stay is choice, as in gamers have a lot of choice in what games and how they can play their games. Consoles can't mimic this.

Consoles need to work on low cost and ease of use, because PS5 and Xbox Series consoles are neither of these. And yes, physical media matters. Why the fuck haven't we moved to cartridges again, like with the Switch 2? Cartridges aren't that expensive, and having something in your hands is still a desire gamers want. Why are we thinking of $1k consoles when $500 was already too much? Why do people need to setup their console when it should just play the games immediately without needing to login? I do less work setting up Linux than I do setting up an Xbox. There is a charm knowing that I can just stick a game in and press power and it just plays the game.
