God of War Laufey (PS5)

I dont see these as some wokefess. People are upset because she nor super hot. She is not even that ugly compared to other characters. People are just hating and wouldnt be surprised people are just being salty that this won't be coming out on PC.

exactly...she's not the hottest female ever but she's definitely not ugly...I remember her from the HBO vampire series True Blood...she's also on the Netflix/Disney+ Daredevil series

and who even cares if she's hot or not...people not playing a potentially great game because the main character is female or not hot enough has got to be one of the dumbest things I've ever seen in my life...the main character needs to fit the setting and the gameplay...was Kratos some hot guy?...Laufey was his wife...the combat, graphics, gameplay look really good

do those same people not watch movies or TV series unless there is a super hot lead female character?

Gameplay and production values are there. It's probably going to be a fun game for what it is.

Old school God of War and these newer games were/are definitely different.

Wokeness debate levels notwithstanding my concerns mostly fall on story/narrative/character and especially potential retconning which usually is bad news. She isn't butt ugly and she isn't a glam queen. Fine. (shrugs)

Some of the rumors about what the future of the series almost sounded like cousin of Assassins Creed. One more game with Atreus going to find out what happened with the giants seemed like a given and maybe that will happen after this. If this game does its job well story wise...that's a big if...then it will help set up the future of the series. I'm wary and weary of prequelitis and especially retconning.

I felt like the main story arc with Kratos and Atreus was well written and executed and would hate to see that messed with. Retconning...she wasn/isn't really dead... these are choppy waters and needlessly so.

For me one of the reasons it worked so well was some of it was left to my imagination in regards to who she was and what she was. Good stories often work best when some things are left to our imagination. Her character was SO impactful in those games. I hope this doesn't undermine that.

We will see.

I dont think they will retcon her back into life. This will be her struggle to get back to Kratos but in the end find out there is no way to get back to the living.

I would have tried it if it came out on PC. Character design doesn't matter as much as the combat and from what I can tell, it looks pretty fun.

Kratos died multiple times and came back from the dead, I bet they'll figure out some way to make that happen, and it'll be a happy Disney ending.

for me the only questionable thing from the reveal trailer is that Cube companion character...seems so out of place and corny...I hate companion characters in most games (except Mass Effect)- they are almost always annoying

I can rarely get through an Asmond video, but he pretty much nails how I feel about the game.

TLDW:
- It will likely still succeed and do well, but not as well as it would with Kratos or Atreu/Loki as the protagonist.
- They def uglified the actress for some reason, while still looking like she's wearing makeup and lipstick in the game somehow. As they've done in many other games as well by adding facial features that aren't there on the actress.
- There's a clear push for female leads in Sony/Western games now, many of which replacing males in the same franchise.
- The memes write themselves and many don't want to acknowledge their points just because it may still be a good game.
- People would rather attack Asmond personally, and anyone pointing these things out, rather than the clear evidence and arguments he's making.

when a video game hires a motion capture actor it's very rarely a direct one-to-one capture into the game...they mostly want to capture her movements, voice and facial expressions...the facial features are almost always exaggerated...the only exception I can think of is Josh Duhamel in 'The Callisto Protocol' where it was pretty much a direct photorealistic capture

same thing with motion capture in movies...does Neytiri look exactly like the actress (Zoe Saldana) in the Avatar movies?...does Andy Serkis look like Gollum?

Only examples of women being 1:1 are before sbi blew up. Spider-Man 1, Detroit become human, and other quantic dream games, Horizon 1, and a few other games... but since they infiltrated gaming companies, it's not the norm.

Hell, even Fey from Ragnarok looks more like the actress than this game.

rarely does not mean never...it means not often compared to the average...you can cherry pick a handful of games but you need to compare it to all video games/movies that have motion capture actors and then do the numbers

Okay. Go ahead and get me a list of every game that has done that and provide examples. All of them.

I literally just gave you multiple examples...then you went and gave me some examples showing the other way...are you saying that all or most games use photorealistic motion capture for their character models?...if not then you agree with me

2. You gave 2. Characters from movies that aren't supposed to be human.

Yes they use actors who do motion capture only, we're not talking about them, we're talking about when they're capturing the likeness of said actor as their in game avatar.

Show me those specific examples where they're not supposed to be a 1:1 capture

you really are arguing nonsense...most video game/movie motion capture performances are not a photorealistic transfer on-screen

let me put it to you this way...maybe you'll understand better...in movies and TV shows actors ugly themselves up, gain weight, lose weight, put on prosthetics, use different hairstyles etc...it varies depending on the type of movie and the specific role/character they are playing

Matthew McConaughey lost 47 pounds in Dallas Buyers Club to portray a man with AIDS, Christian Bale lost over 60 pounds for the movie 'The Machinist'...every actor does not look the exact same in every single movie/TV series...same thing in video games...Deborah Ann Woll is not going to look the same as she does in Daredevil as she does in God of War Laufey...use common sense

Lol, accuses me of cherry picking then proceeds to cherry pick, and provides completely unrelated examples.

The goalpost moving never ends.

I am going to use common sense and stop arguing with a brick wall.

impressive mental gymnastics routine...
scroll up, watch the vid i posted from ragnarok, she DID look just like the actress...

scroll up, watch the vid i posted from ragnarok, she DID look just like the actress...

because that's what the role called for...it's called Director's intent...sometimes an actor may have the exact right look for a movie or video game and there is no need to make them more gritty or pretty or ugly or fat...other times an actor may be close enough but things need to be changed to fit the story or time period...the main character from Stellar Blade is not going to fit as Laufey in a God of War game

Personally I think this game looks pretty bad ass but this is the sort of shit that makes me not want to engage in discussion about video games anymore. If the high prices of hardware isn't enough it's the anti woke brigade crying that if a woman isn't sexually attractive in the game it must be woke and pushing an agenda, that ruins this hobby and this forum (outside of GenMay). So why don't you incels take the antiwoke bullshit to GenMay so the rest of us can discuss the game instead of why some fictional character doesn't jerk you off the way you like.

Funny how Japanese developers have their actresses look as good or even better than their real-life counterparts as well.

Here's Capcom/RE games at least:

There's many more, but I'm mobile and don't care though to dig it all up.

And again; this is just a small part of the argument and Western studio's (in both games and movies/shows) "message". By itself, it's not a big deal, but together with all the other propaganda they push; prominent gay relationships (Horizon Forbidden West DLC, TloU Part 2, Spider-Man 2 gay prom mission, Ghosts of Yotei main protagonist raising a child with another woman and played by a queer/gender-fluid actress, etc.), weak/evil white male characters (all of TLoU, Horizon ZD/FW main antagonists, Peter Parker in Spider Man 2, Ghosts of Yotei) forced diversity, and whatever else I know I'm missing.

I can tolerate and play a few of these things in games occasionally, but when most Western studios continue to cram these things down our throat in nearly every game, they have to learn they're actually being counterproductive in their goal to have more people accept their "message" and are actually breeding intolerance.

the reason minorities and gay/Trans storylines are more prominent in TV shows and movies is because it's a reflection of the times we live in...that's how entertainment has always been...it's become more socially acceptable so now it gets put in more video games, TV and movies...this is not hard to comprehend but apparently for some folk it is

Comprehending this isn't an issue. That they're over-represented by being nearly half of the character and relationships portrayed in games and media is the issue. That doesn't quite feel representative of the general public, nor does it feel as relatable to their largest customer demographic - straight white males. Vs seemingly their target demographic that barely exists in the gaming market; women and minorities.

As I alluded to above, I, like most people, don't care if someone is gay or trans or whatever. But it's actually tiring and so played-out at this point to consistently make them main characters in a story or game, it feels so forced and disingenuous to actual women, gay and trans people, while also making them distractingly unrelatable to most of us playing the game.

So why don't you incels take the antiwoke bullshit to GenMay so the rest of us can discuss the game instead of why some fictional character doesn't jerk you off the way you like.
I'm sorry, but you'll find that many of us incels are actually happily married with kids, as I am. So you have to find a better noun to describe people rejecting woke ideology.

I never did get calling anti-woke guys incels either, when stereotypically liberal men are much less masculine or traditionally attractive looking.

I guess I must be in the minority...when I'm playing a game such as Horizon Forbidden West etc I don't notice the gayness unless there is some obvious romance element to it...when I'm in combat or exploring I'm not thinking to myself "Wow she's gay/Trans etc"

I was the same until I played the DLC, which is all about forming a relationship with another woman that climaxes with you kissing her at the end of it.

I still enjoyed the game too. It just detracts a bit from the game overall. You find out her mother/clone is gay in the main game. So I think it would have been more interesting for Aloy to be Bi or something in the game, choosing between a straight or gay relationship. Pretty much like Mass Effect does, which is one of my favorite games ever, and IMO nails now you can have gay or straight relationships in a game without it feeling forced or disingenuous.

At least they give you options at the end, but yeah.

Her "mother / clone" was supposedly gay. But Aloy outright rejected Tilda's advances in the game (and Tilda had the worst cased of not being able to let go in the history of the universe). So despite being a clone ... they made it clear she had her own thoughts and feelings.

Capcom has always hyper aware of what gamers like to look at while they play games. And I'm with you as well. I can tolerate some of these things. But I'm done tolerating the barrage of crap being hurled in my direction.
