Gigabyte is running a limited promotion for its AORUS GeForce RTX 5090 INFINITY 32G graphics card in Taiwan. Buyers who purchase the 40th anniversary model during the event period can register to receive 1 gram of 999 pure gold.

According to the website

The terms suggest this is a Taiwan-only promotion. Gigabyte requires an invoice dated between May 25 and June 7, 2026. The invoice must clearly show the eligible AORUS GeForce RTX 5090 INFINITY model. The card is now listed in Taiwan for NT$165,000, which is around US$5,250.

FYI. Round trip airfare from Los Angeles is $1177, on Delta Airlines. :ROFLMAO:

Spend thousands on a GPU.

Get ~$145 worth of gold for "free".

This market is stupid.

My philosophy is as follows:

Functional products = good.

Luxury products = bad.

Whenever there is a luxury product sold based on its luxury qualities, someone is ripping you off, and you should avoid them like the plague. It means they have decided that they don't actually want to be troubled with making the product better anymore, but they still want more of your money, so they make up bullshit like "Corinthian Leather"

In the last few years computing has gone from being a respectable functional industry to trying to raise margins by turning to bullshit luxury goods tactics, and I hope they die in a fire as a result.

Luxury goods are for fools.

But what if they add lots of RGB?

Why spend that much on a midrange 32GB card? True enthusiests and [H] members will buy the RTX Pro 6000 with 96GB of VRAM and additional cores. 😜
I did honestly look when I got my 5090. "Well maybe the pro cards aren't that much insanely more." They are, in fact, that much insanely more :D

It'd be fun for local LLMs though. Not that I'm using those for anything but playing around at this point.

Well give them a couple generations of people happily paying 2x MSRP for XX90 class cards and you'll have the privilege of paying close to 10k for them anyways. :D

When you want to sell this 5090 on eBay or on [H] in a few years, will you throw in the bar of gold? :)
