I’m considering moving from a Mac Studio M3 Ultra (512GB / 4TB, like new) to a more portable setup, and trying to figure out the best place to sell it.
For those who’ve sold high-end Macs, where did you get the best balance between price, safety, and fees? eBay, local, or forums?
Also curious if these are actually selling near listing prices, or if the market is softer than it looks.

I've always sold my Macs here: https://swappa.com/

By far the safest place to buy and sell used electronics, especially Macs. I've been using this place for years. It's a 6.98% fee, which is way lower than eBay.

You can try OfferUp as well, which is a much safer Craigslist alternative, but people on there can be just as annoying with prices.

Appreciate the recommendation, I’ve heard good things about Swappa, especially for Macs. The lower fees compared to eBay are definitely a plus.

I'll second the Swappa recommendation. With a system on that level you want absolute guarantees that you'll be paid and won't have to haggle.

They're currently unavailable. I would have thought they'd have appreciated in the AI market....

I've never owned a Mac, but I have used Swappa many times for phones and can vouch for it being a good experience.

Ebay is not very safe for the seller anymore. A lot of power in the hands of the buyer now.

Indeed. Between that and the compound fees (ebay fees + paypal fees) eating up WAY too much of the proceeds from a sale, I do most of my sales locally or on forums these days.

Swappa is a good option though. It's just that most of what I sell (old computer parts I no longer need mostly) are not the type of complete packaged consumer products that Swappa deals in. Otherwise I'd probably try there too.

Back in the day, Ebay was the goto place to sell used stuff. I also used the hell out of Craigslist when I lived in the SF bay area as they always had listings. I picked up a shitload of graphics cards and CPU from 2006-2013 when I lived there. Nowadays, craigslist sucks.

Swappa is a good place or these forums.

Yeah, I learned this recently. It is really sad how far to shit Craigslist has gone. And really fast too.

I think they were too slow to take the threat of AI scam bots seriously, and by the time they actually started fighting back and reducing their presence on the site, most buyers and sellers moved on to other places, like Facebook market place, which is sad.

I really liked Craigslist back in the day, and I don't think Facebook marketplace is a good replacement.
