1366 x58 Xeon Enthusiast overclocks club

I'm still trying to put a X58 system back together, the Asus p6x58-e is a rescue (one of the chokes was shorted out, I replaced but it shuts off on any sort of load)
X58 still one of the greatest platforms from Intel
I have an MSI Big bang! Xpower, and man, they board is beefy. I run a W3680 in it normally, since multiplier oc is convenient, and my modest OC is like 4.2-4.3 ghz in like the 1.25-1.3v range, just for sake of cooling. I do have an x5675, and an i7 950 (that clocks amazingly, 4.4 ghz at like 1.35v.) the thing about x58 though, is that like, for fun, you could just pay like $3 bucks and have a chip you can OC to it's limit, so like, you could just buy a few CPUs every once in a while with pocket change and get tons of fun OCing. Anyway, I still think x58 is in contention with x79 for the best Intel platforms, as x79 still crazily enough brings a lot more to the table, like more ram channels, uefi, avx, 12 core cpus, it's up there. Then again though, literally every CPU on x58 is overclock able, while x79 can't say the same.

Agreed about 1366 CPU prices but peeved how much boards are still going for.
I've never had X79 but desired it for a while. Then X99 came along and I just felt X79 wasn't a far enough change over X58 to warrant the upgrade.
When I finally left X58 in late 2020, it was to X99 which I'm currently still running.

From another thread, but might as well post it here. My i7 950 that got to 4.370MHz. My memory timings at 1520MHz were 7-8-8-24-1T. Gods overclocking was strong then.

The only thing about x99 nowadays, at least, what stops me from trying it is board prices + ddr4, especially quad ddr4 kits, it's just a bit of upfront cost. Honestly though, I'd really really like to try x299, but that is RIDICULOUSLY expensive, even compared to x99. Either way, just some goal platforms for me

Yeah, I missed out on Intel's 5th Gen to 10th Gen. I got a 11900 ES sample from someone to try out. It's actually not bad. Input latency's really good. I gave my brother-in-law a computer with a 12600K, which also wasn't bad, it was just limited by heat. I'm running a lot of cheap 13th gen (13500T, 13600T, 13600K), and they're awesome. I can throw anything at them and really don't have any tasks that need the extra threads right now. I doubt I'll find a 14700K I can afford, or a 15th gen for that matter.

Is there anything interesting about 5th Gen to 10th Gen that I missed out on?

Yea now is not a good time to pick things up. I had a few opportunities to get x299 but just as X79 vs X58, it wasn't a big enough upgrade to X99, any decent chip, 10900X+ was crazy expensive.

Ended up working on an AM4 + 5950x for my current upgrade now

Hah, I found my i7 920 D0 overclock screenshot hidden away in an old SATA III SSD. 4.2GHz at only 1.2875V's. That one was a real winner. I hope I still have it.
