A photo I took in 2025

Well the last thread is a few years out of date now so I figure it might be time for a new one.

Acquired a new zoom lens for my Panasonic S5 so I took it out in the backyard for a test. Here's a few straight out of the camera jpeg I'm happy to share:

Juvenile American Robin in our apple tree. There wasn't a nest in any of our trees this Spring, so when a robin was making a fuss, I looked closer at one of our apple trees and noticed a juvenile robin it was still looking after.


Taken from my old Nikon D7100 with an AF-S Micro 85mm lens. F/3.5 1/1250 ISO 800.

Also, while not 2025, I just wanted to include a two photos from 2024 when my extended family and I went on a trip to Norway (there's not much scenic photos to shoot in Nebraska). These were done on my Samsung S24 Ultra. It's able to take good enough photos compared to my old Nikon D7100, and most of my photos were of family members, anyway.

I was fishing in Ålesund, and the sun was coming out from under the clouds, and in the middle of the sun's reflection on the ocean was a boat. I thought it was cool... and on hindsight, I think it was a panorama shot, too.


This was a panorama shot in Geiranger, where we would eventually take a boat tour (the ship on the left was a cruise ship). I just thought it was cool since it's a decent panorama photo from a smartphone, where you don't have to take multiple overlapping photos to stitch together in post.

The town of Węgorzewo in the Masurian Lake District in NE Poland. One of the very first shots from my new "free" Motorola G15 phone.
Compared to the G10, they of course took away the ability to shoot RAW/DNG. Camera2 Probe also says it can't.
So, very sad me.
But it looks alright, I guess. I just really love to 'save' borderline shots taken in difficult conditions by doing the conversion to JPEG on the PC.

Backyard garden bugs! August '25. Photography noob, but I'm already hooked. Panasonic Lumix G9II and PL 50-200mm lens.

Initially I thought: woah, that's pretty - sunlight on my back and this grey mass up front.


Surely it's not going to...

New lens, who dis? Picked up the second part of the Sigma L Mount zoom trinity, the 24-70 Art II. Not sure if I'll go for the wide zoom anytime soon. Honestly a new body might be next on the list, and I just don't tend to use the wide ranges as much. I took it into the backyard for a few quick shots just to do some rudimentary testing just in time to really capture the last of the green for the year as we had our first hard freeze this morning. Hoping to get it back out later this week to take some more with the family to put it through more of its pace that I anticipate to use it.

Well, new body new photos I guess sometimes Santa comes early. Wanted to get some familiarity with some of the changes and set things up a bit. Going to take it to a few of the kids' things this weekend. Oh the glory of finally moving on up in the world with hybrid autofocus with the S1R II. Can already tell it's much faster autofocus performance and makes the Sigma lenses with HLA motors snappy AF and not as in autofocus I did struggle a bit with keeping the birds in focus with AFC animal tracking on not sure if its because I wasn't zoomed in enough for it to track one better rather than jumping around to different birds or not. Will need to play around with it some more, and perhaps test out the hybrid zoom feature more on another day. Christmas is supposed to be in the high 70s so I hear so might be a good afternoon to go back out. Hopefully it works out better than expected because I really don't want to have to consider the Sigma 300-600 F/4 as the third part of the trinity...
