Ghost of Tsushima (Confirmed)

Graphically it looks kind of mixed to me. Gameplay sections look blurry, but the in game cutscenes and faces look nice. I assume the PC version will clean up the image quality and there is some type of upscaling done on the PS4/5.

PS5 Directors cut is checkboarded to 4K/60, when set to "resolution" mode. But Digital Foundry never seems to state the base resolution.

This is like AC? Oof, I hope not, those haven’t done a thing for me since the original.

It's very similar to the last few. Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla, etc.
Souls'ish gameplay (weak attack, strong attack, block, parry, dodge) in an open world.
Depending on when you bailed from the AC series, that could be a good thing. They were in a bit of a rut before Origins overhauled the melee combat completely.

Quick google seem to say that usually checkboarded would be first rendering 50% of the pixels than filling up. (often alternating which 50% are rendered and using the previous frame real rendered pixel to help how to fill the missing pixels of the new one)

Certainly not as pretty as the other PS4/5 ports to PC:

Graphics aren't everything but this game looks more like something from 10 years ago in some ways. Maybe even like remastered 10+ year old game. Bit odd considering how nice the other Sony games looked.

Still interested in it though. Looks like a sequel may be announced this year, but that would be a few years away for PC.

Those are super high compressed photos.. Look at the blocking... !!!

the setting and environments look really good in this game...the Assassin's Creed games had a ton of world detail but the world didn't look as pretty

God of War Ragnarok is not yet too years. I suppose it can come late 2024, but I can see it slip to 2025.

Sony generally doesn't announce its ports too far in advance. But didn't expect Ghost to come this soon. Pleasantly surprised.
Soon? Ghost of Tsushima will be 4 years old when it comes out on PC.
Done....just for you. :cool::p:D
Now you just need to update the "Lords of the Fallen" thread title ;).

those are not official released screenshots
Actually, they are. They were taken from the PlayStation blog post, but it looks like they were lazy and just took snips of the Youtube trailer after Youtube was done processing it.

https://blog.playstation.com/2024/03/06/ghost-of-tsushima-directors-cut-is-coming-to-pc-on-may-16/

The trailer looks better in motion, but it looks like they didn't bother updating the assets. Remember that this is a PS4 game, not a PS5 game. The assets are low resolution to begin with.

Pulled from the Steam page. If they aren't representative of the game Sony should put better ones up. Even if there are compression issues with the screen shots, that wouldn't change the way the snow looks, or tree and leaf models. The snow looks more like a game from 2010 or so. Maybe even older.

Even then, Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone, etc. were also PS4 games but looked a good bit better.

Still interested even if not a graphical power house. If this is essentially Assassin's Creed without the cringe dialogue and poor story writing of the last few games it can certainly be fun.

Maybe it's nostalgia or some such but the game looked dope on PS4 Pro and also when I tried it out on PS5 with updated resolution etc. Not sure what is going on with PC version if those are official shots. Either way, I may not indulge second time just like I skipped Spider Man games, God of War etc. Don't have time to replay old stuff.

Slightly unrelated, but there is another similar game, Rise of the Ronin, coming out soon for PS5. Team Ninja game, but looks less grounded in reality but overall similar. Suppose next year that will come to PC.

Certainly not as pretty as the other PS4/5 ports to PC:
Other shots from the PS blog look much better but these remind me of how FromSoft make water/fantasy regions look, which is to say bland compared to other styles of environments. In Sekiro for example the game looks wonderful but get to the end water region and it looks like an Asian pseudo-vintage painting from a dollar store, with its bland material rendering and unnaturally colored flora.

The environments in this game look very nice. It's gonna look a lot better in motion at 4k. Plus it should run great as well. Then there's always the possibility of texture mods and what not.

btw, is this supposed to have hdr support?

I imagine it would. Sackboy A Big Adventure, Returnal, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, The Last of Us Part 1, God of War, and Horizon Zero Dawn PC ports have HDR support. It'll have Atmos too most likely. 🤤 4K120 HDR and Atmos, that'll be a nice upgrade from when I played it on PS4 Pro with a 4K non HDR tv.

I initially didn't find this game interesting, because I hastily thought that this is just a Sekiro inspired game that tries to capture the PlayStation crowd by looking more fancy and having cinematics, but I see this game is one of those bustle type of games, where you run around exploring and completing many tasks that usually gets increasingly difficult, while having some sort of character development. I know some judge games by the theme, but overlooking that aspect, this game is akin to Days Gone I'd say, which of course has ranged guns based combat, but is similar for the gameplay loop, what kind is often seen in modern design. I'm certainly interested know that I have took a better look after learning it is coming to PC. I very much enjoyed Days Gone, and it seems to me the games funded by Sony generally have these similarities, like cinematic storytelling with strong focus on characters and bounded or larger open world, which have mostly worked for me - the next PlayStation title for me in the line is Rathcet & Clank: Rift Apart, once it goes on sale again, which also seems very cinematic, but now with more open world design which I'm not sure if the previous entries had. I also like that the game has Japanese voice acting available, which I find important if the setting is rather realistic based on real ethnities. The cutscenes seem convincing, but in such a game the combat is what makes or breaks it - is it good?

Looks good to me, good enough anyway from what little I've seen of it. There's also coop as well, which could be cool if you got a dedicated partner to play with.

Believe it or not but I'm actually more excited for this than HFW.

Hey yo, I just came across this vid showing the same area in that screenshot you posted. It looks much better in the vid that than that ss. Has a lot more atmosphere going on. Plus that's gotta be the PS4 version I'd assume, so it should look a little better in true 4k on PC.

Ironically it's a vid comparing RotR (which you also made a post about) to GoT. Me personally, not much a fan of Team Ninja's games. They just seem bland to me, and something idk I just don't like about them. Not sure why.🤷‍♂️

Time-stamped, but the whole vid is worth a watch. Good comparison between the two. I think GoT will be better in every way. I've been wanting to play this for years!

That seems to be my impression as well. Only one I tried was Stranger of Paradise, Final Fantasy. I didn't care for it at all and it looked quite blurry and bad. The rest of their games I've looked at have never appealed to me much.

It's almost like they got the volumetric settings turned way down or off completely in those screenshots. There's hardly any fog and it looks a little boring because of it. Makes it seem dated a bit.

slightly off topic but, with all these newer samurai/ninja type games getting made, it's got me thinking of all the old Onimusha games. How cool would it be for a reboot running on the RE engine? I stopped playing those after part 2 because 3 seemed kinda weird with the introduction of that French acter guy lol. But they could do some cool stuff with the ip, I'm quite sure. Maybe make the combat a little more technical, soulish if you will. I think Capcom should MAKE IT HAPPEN! I think they'd be foolish not to.

Is the pronunciation Soo-Shima, or Too-she-mah? Just curious.

Never mind. It’s soo-she-muh. Google is your friend. LOL.

Nice to see we'll be able to earn trophies for PC versions going forward.

good to see DLAA being implemented in more and more games...also glad I bought the 4080 Super (although with the rumors of Blackwell launching in Q4 it probably would have been better to wait)

Yeah, I'm liking this. Hopefully we get save file transfers at some point too.
