I generally agree with what some others here (Zara among them) have stated - there's nothing wrong with breastfeeding, it is in fact natural, necessary, and healthy - but so are other bodily functions that utilize "private" parts of the body. Sure if you want to have a bigger debate on "if breasts should be seen as sexual at all" that's outside the scope of the issue, it really comes down to Twitch's policy - either we allow uncovered female breasts (or for that matter male breasts/chests - I don't believe that ANYONE is allowed to stream bare chested in a gaming/talk setting but I'd appreciate some confirmation of this fact.) or we don't.
If they do, then that basically turns all the worst of the "Twitch thot" and "Booby streamers" issues on display up to 11. Twitch all ready had to lock down their policy against bathing suit/push up bra/"just barely covering the nipples" streaming because that was becoming a major issue with people pressing the limits. So its not going to go over well at all to say "You can have naked female breasts if there is a baby nearby/attached, but no other circumstances", as it will open a huge can of worms from tons of angles. It won't take much time for someone to try to exploit this loophole in one way or another and there will be other challenges to what is acceptable and why.
This doesn't mean that they have to consider breastfeeding a TOS violation and any disciplinary action necessary, but I don't necessarily see any problem with cutting that particular moment of content if a nipple is visible or whatnot, just for consistency. With a small exception, most nursing mothers would rather modestly feed their babies with a covering or as little visibility as possible if in a public place. Should that not be sufficient for Twitch, considering it a very public place? And unlike some of the other "nursing in public" arguments (ie nobody wants to be forced to take a baby into a bathroom to fed them just for modesty's sake even with a cover/nursing bra etc), these people are at home, in a broadcasting studio of sorts, and choose how public to make themselves. Is it too much to ask that breastfeeding be treated in terms of a bathroom break when it comes to streaming - you pause your stream or go out of frame, if you can't do it without making parts of your body visible that are against site TOS? Some streaming sites are okay with nudity based on the context, but Twitch has always had to walk a fine line because people - understandably , in an attempt to capitalize on their assets or differentiate themselves from others - have been trying to push the
It may not be that the woman in question intended this to be a controversy, but people will line up on all sides and likely set up future acts meant to take advantage of controversy one way or another and the rules need to be consistent, but take context into consideration where possible.
