Steam Summer Sale June 25th

For a while I stopped caring about Steam Sales, but more and more recent CDKeys listing only work in the EU.
A bundle of Resident Evil remakes might be of interest to me. Ditto with the DLCs for Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

They still have some good sales, even if they aren't the kind of flash deal sales that there used to be - IF you were lucky enough to catch them. However, there's a lot of stuff on sale. I compare to what I can get on other legit key sites (GMG etc), but there are some titles that are only (or mostly, for the US region) on Steam direct making Steam sales the best chance to pick up at a discount - Lobotomy Corporation for instance, a really unusual management sim by Korean developers doing their take on the "SCP Foundation". There's also DLC on sale - with the exception of some bigger name titles, you don't usually find heavily discounted DLC / season passes on keyseller sites.

sites like GMG have sales pretty much year round and with other stores like Epic, GoG etc having their own sales it makes the Steam ones feel a bit underwhelming

They brought back flash sales during the winters sale if I recall. There are still deals to be found but it still isn't the way it used to be and never will be. It de-valued IPs too quickly. Around 2010-2013 you could easily fall behind a year and buy SP games a year later for $5 to $7.50. A game that is only a year old still looks great, current, and will have patches and DLC. And you'd likely have upgraded your GPU again so by the time you got to them you'd have a better experience. This meant big publishers were competing with themselves. The rate of price reduction was so fast that people wouldn't have gotten around to their 9-12 month old game. And $5 vs $60 make the choice easier. At first it was great because it breathed revenue for games otherwise dead and no longer selling. But then it became a race to the bottom.

Things seemed to have evened out now. We still see some big sales with discount sites as well, but we'll probably never see a return to the good old days.

I wonder what I should pick up I mean I have everything I want kinda except maybe a few DLCs. That is one this sites like CD keys doesn't have the DLC usually for whatever title. The only game I kinda want is Assassins Creed Odyssey.

Steam is still the best platform, but there are some inroads by these subscription services (which is a dirty word I know).

Last night I subscribed to Xbox for PC Beta.
https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-game-pass/pc-games

Over 100 games for a subscription fee of $5 per month. First month is $1. Cancel at anytime no fee.

Metro 2033 Exodus is among the titles. I wanted to try that and it's brand new. So I'm getting to play it for $1. That was just released 2 weeks ago on June 9. Even if it goes on sale on Steam it'll be $50 bucks or so, since it just came out. Hard to argue over the subscription services merits when they keep the monthly price so low and include brand new releases. At $5 a month I'm probably in on the Game Pass Service.

EA Orgin for $30 a year is of the same ilk, but they only put the games on their service after 6 months or so of release date -- still okay with me. If I play one game a year I come out ahead of buying it new -- only penalty is ~6 months before you can play it on EA Orgin's service.

Ubisoft also has an subscription game service on the way. I feel like they their games lineup is arguably the strongest for a single publisher, but at $15 their fee is steep. It's still cheaper than paying retail, though. If you're like me and typically don't replay most games - you're looking at $15-45 to play a new release along with the rest of their games line-up. Something massive like Odyssey can probably take 2-3 months to play through. Something smaller like New Dawn is probably 2-3 weeks instead. Both are still cheaper via that fee than to buy outright. If you don't care about having to re-join to play them again, it's not that bad of a deal.

The problem is if you don't finish the game in the allocated time you have to pay a lot more. That is how these games are being designed, with subscriptions and games as a service in mind. Don't fall for it. Pay once, keep it forever, have a coherent experience from day one.

Subscriptions may look good now but they'll end up screwing us in the long run.

Yes, because so many "live service" games provide such a great day one experience already.

I just dumped 20.00 in change at Walmart to pick up a Steam Card for the sale. You can do that with the self checkouts where you put the coins you can dump in handfull of coins and instant Steam Credit. I used to be able to get 10% off on the Steam cards but Walmart changed that three years ago.

I usually set a budget of $50 for the whole duration. We'll see if anything makes me bite. At this point, I own most of the library that I want. So, it'll mostly be small indies here and there.

until they bring back flash deals, the Steam sales have lost their luster...

Every sale... the same ol point is made about flash sales. My same ol counterpoint: Do you want refund options for games or silly flash sales 2-3 times a year to give you a cheap thrill of logging into steam every 2-8 hours? Nevermind that Steam still has flash sales now every week and weekend. MIdweek sales and free demo/sale weekends.

Why does one have to preclude the other?

Went to pick up another 20.00 Steam card today they were all sold out lol there was like 10 of them there the other day so I had to take my 18.00 in change back to my car that was in my pocket. Epic needs to start putting out cards you have Blizzard and EA cards but nothing for Uplay and Epic.

The subscription services are very cool. However, they don't have every single game. So, buying games individually is still very important.

I went to the UPlay store seems like something is brewing over there I get a Bunny Rabbit oop up on the store page breaking a lcd screen.

Steam should just like all of their sales links to Epic so it doesn't crash on them.
The only games I have preorderd are Cyberpunk 2077 and Youngblood everything else is Epic.

Looks like a disaster launch as usual not going to wait around for 3 hours to get it fixed. Even if you restart Steam it's slim pickings.

Steam needs a K-Mart blue light special if they want sales I mean Epic was dirt cheap Steam doesn't have much to offer. Why would anyone purchase Devil May Cry for 39.00 when you have the exact same digital game for 31.00 at CD keys.

I'm interested, and not opposed to a subscription style Netflix approach to gaming.

My only issue is I don't have high speed internet. So Streaming is a no-go off the bat, and most AAA releases take me days to download. Half the appeal is being able to sample around a few games, but it's difficult to do that when it takes so long just to get the files. The icing on the cake is that while something is downloading, everything else on the internet comes to a grinding halt, so no playing online games.

I think the business case for subscription service is nearly there, I just can't quite hop on the bandwagon just yet.

And there's always the threat of the game your into at the moment gets pulled from the service.... although I play a lot of MMOs and the threat of having a game you paid for (in some fashion) not being there tomorrow has always loomed large.

I'm done with this sale lol just got done with Inventory at Walmart this morning this sale isn't helping lol I can't even get my Wishlist to load or search for Kingdomcome Deliverance dlcs.

Update: working now

Why would anyone purchase Devil May Cry for 39.00 when you have the exact same digital game for 31.00 at CD keys.

Not everyone knows about CDKeys (they're selling keys based on exchange rate inconsistencies) and more and more of their games are starting to be region-locked. I agree that I'd go with their $31 vs. Steam's $39, but that doesn't always work anymore.

The problem with UBI games on Steam it's no longer the case I think Assassin Creed Odyssey was the last UBI game to launch on Steam which it's why it's still on the launcher. I own the Epic launcher and hopefully when Borderlands 3 comes out it will be improved by then. I haven't even downloaded one single game on Epic yet.

How much did they pay to get listed 4 times in a row

With TESO expansions, it goes like this:
  • Full base game + expansion
  • Full base game + expansion + deluxe edition
  • Expansion
  • Expansion + deluxe edition
I don't know if since it's technically one game, and all 4 purchase options are listed on the same repository ID, that one selling high will cause all of them to be listed.

Always gets better as the sale goes in but you'd think they would've gotten better at this over the years. And honestly, Steam sales aren't even that good anymore. Can't even load the store page.

Yeah, I was going to say, the sales aren't good enough to warrant that kind of traffic. I guess people still keep holding onto hope that they will be good again one day...

I don't see myself buying much this Steam Sale. I recently picked up Titanfall 2 for $7.50 on Origin, and I'm still playing RIME I bough back in April., so only if I spot something amazing.

I think the only thing I've got sights is Life is Strange 2, but I skipped picking that up for $26 last week. I'll check my wishlist when I get home.
