Comparing camera's: XS Max and 8 Plus

I wanted to compare the new iPhone's camera to the last generation. So tonight I shot the iPhone XS Max against the iPhone 8 Plus. And I have to say...the iPhone XS Max is incredible when it comes to dynamic range while the iPhone 8 Plus just blows the highlights out.

Looking at the two photos, I'd say a big part of the "problem" is also processing in the 8 Plus. The 8Plus has significantly more contrast applied. If the iPhone was capable of taking a RAW photo, I'm sure it'd be possible to pull those highlights back, or at least do more with better processing by hand than what it spits out automatically.

The XS Max evened our the color. And you may be right about the raw, but I wanted to compare from a real world perspective without additional editing.
