Fallout 76 Will be Up "Forever"

Physics is tied to FPS. I don't see that being a small thing to fix...

So have you been playing the beta, or watching youtube? Testing has gone well and stuff is getting fixed. The game run great and I'm recommending it. We play again tomorrow after an almost 30G patch, so it'll be interesting to see what that does.

Hopefully somewhere in that 30GB patch is a fix to the utterly moronic decision not to include server-side checks for client side mods. Because the dumbasses at Bethesda didn't include anything to prevent modding and since the game is just Fallout 4 with a new skin it is apparently really easy to convert mods from one to the other. If they don't get that disaster fixed before launch I don't expect the game to have a terribly long life on the PC because it will take all of five seconds before crazy cheats and hacks are all over the place with no recourse what-so-ever.

And the crazy cheats and hacks will do what? Its not a seriously competitive game. More like coop with PvP on the side. I found a terrible weapon I'm keeping just for PvP and I kinda want smack someone with it. ;) So I'm waiting for the first time I get ganked, but I fear with my play habits I'll have to go find someone.

There are already many stories of gankers getting their just deserts. I'm gonna have to get my base, both base and setup, finished and then I'm gonna go get some. ;)

*forever as in, the potential for self run servers?
Ideally, yeah. Subspace is the prime example of this. VIE gave up hosting and the server software went to the community. 22 years later you can still play. :D

There is still a big PVP element. And from Bethesda's perspective, the ability for mods to exist cuts into their potential to sell cosmetic microtransactions and crap. And if people create cheats to make themselves invincible or have infinite nukes (if that is something that is possible to mod) it can easily ruin the experience for other players. Without a good way to catch these players Bethesda will have no effective way of banning them or preventing the mods from being used. Anything with a competitive element people will find a way to exploit and use it to grief other players and try to get them to quit playing. If honest players have no recourse than the player base starts to die off, especially when the game does not, currently, offer support for private servers which means players have zero control over situations.

Publicly, Bethesda has been very confident about Fallout 76, and that confidence continued over the weekend. In a recent interview with Gamespot, Pete Hines said "How long is [Fallout 76] going to be up? Forever." Many game developers have a habit of abandoning online games prematurely, but with this statement and previous private server promises, Bethesda seems to be bucking the industry trend.

"We're going to keep going as long as people keep playing it and it shows no sign of slowing down," he said. "Once we get to private servers or whatever happens in the years following; I don't know. Maybe there's a point where it doesn't matter. But ... this is a massive franchise and a massive undertaking, and our commitment to it is it is never-ending, and that it continues on an ongoing basis." Because Fallout 76 is an online-only game, should Bethesda ever decide to pull the plug on the servers, how does that impact the idea of ownership of the game? Hines said game ownership "isn't particularly relevant" at this juncture because, "I see a plan for this game for years and years and years. So talking about when it's not up is kind of irrelevant. I have nothing to look at that says it's not going to be up forever."

HAHAHAHA, you actually believe them? I have some good swamp land to sell you.

Notice how attacking the entire forum didn't get you any love?

When someone says stuff like "my i5-750 and 1070 are perfect for this game with no hiccups @ 2560x1600 (CRT?)" and then you compare that comment with the numerous youtube videos that show blatantly obvious hitches in the game, you can just disregard his comments.

So I'll be able to show my grandkids in 2050 what a disaster of a game this is?

I have absolutely zero interest in buying or playing FO76 since I prefer single player immersion gaming, but I'll check back in with this thread to see if it's still running...on October 23, 2077.
