Hi Everyone, I've got an old i3 2300 that I'm considering upgrading to either an i5 3570 or i7 3770. Do you think I'll see decent performance benefit in games by going with the i7?

Unless the game is CPU intensive (most aren’t) you likely wouldn't see much difference between the 4 and 8 thread chip. That being said the 3770 would likely future proof yourself longer, would be better for multitasking, and is a minimal cost difference (30-40$ more).

wrong... ^

hyperthreading it's a major difference these days in gaming even at very high clocks.. which it's the typical answer from typical users "uuuh nope, at high clocks it won't make a difference"

If you're going to upgrade an old machine, may as well max it out best you can as long as the price is reasonable. Go the i7. It'll last longer and threads definitely help, especially in locked chips.

Depends on the games you play I guess then, I haven't noticed a difference since downgrading (though I generally play RTS).
That videos looking at a 7th gen processor, we're talkin' about a 3rd gen :), still the 3770 is likely the best choice just for the longevity.

(I do have a secondary delidded 3770 if you're wanting the non-k version I might be able to part with Brujah)

I'd go with the i7.

Also, you can OC an extra 4 multipliers on the non-K parts. That's 400mhz free.

I just went 3570k @ 4.5ghz to 3770k @ 4.5ghz after noticing the 3570k was pegged at 100% over all cores in a few new games.
Gained a lot of FPS.
Paid like a 120 bucks for a used cpu from china, off of ebay.
My gpu is a 1060 btw.

I would go i7 for sure. I am using a i5 3470 and it runs the games I play just fine surprisingly. The performance difference in cpu's over the years is a lot lower then I expected it to be
