18-Year-Old YouTube Star, “McSkillet,” Kills Mother, Daughter in Fiery Crash

It's actually called adjustment disorder, and like many things in the DSM it is attempting to clinically define everything about being human. I guess "adjustment disorder" sounded too much like "affluenza," so they had to make it more legitmate sounding.

The problem with having a clinical diagnosis for everything is being able to excuse every behavior with mental illness. People just need to deal with everything life throws at them and take some personal responsibility.

exactly.. I along with many others have faced being totally destitute (read homeless) and yet, managed to pick ourselves up and do what is required to get out of said mess....

Well, not anymore they don't. I get what Jim Kim is saying, shit like this is why they should have cracked down on it ages ago. We all knew it was going on.
Valve has been cracking down on it for years. It's probably a slow process. Lots of sites have been either shjt down or had their steam bot accounts banned effectively making their operation dead in the water. This is what happened with mckillet I'm pretty sure.

Again, I'm in no way trying to excuse this guy's actions. But telling someone with depression to take personal responsibility and deal with it is callous and stupid.

Once more: I do not suggest that this guy's actions were the result of, or excused by, depression. But there are people out there with legitimate mental health conditions who need more support than just being told to deal with it. And just because some people have a fucking horrendous life situation and avoid becoming depressed doesn't mean that everyone will.

It has not been suggested that he had untreated depression. So stop rallying for the cause. It may have been aids that caused it also, or a bad post on Facebook.

As someone whom has dealt with this before I will say this. Telling someone to deal with it is about the worst thing you can do and it almost guarantees they will do exactly to opposite and not deal with it. The human mind is emotional, and emotional feelings cannot be altered or fixed with rational explanations it is invalidating and will typically not yield the results you are looking for. Let me flip it on some people and see how it feels.

Your mom and sister were just killed by a rich kid committing suicide. Now you are complaining about it and processing it and talking to people about it and I come up to you and go hey shit happens deal with it. Time to get a new wife and make a new daughter get over it. How does that feel? Essentailly this is exactly the same thing people are saying to Mcskillet you had everything and it was taken away from you. Invalidating all his problems in life. Heck maybe his mom and friends were doing the same shit when he tried to talk. His solution kill himself cause he wasn't getting the validating support he needed. I don't blame anyone though it took me half a lifetime to learn about these things. Society doesn't tell us how to work with emotional people, it tells us just just keep using logic and rational thought and judgement to figure life out. But we aren't really logical creatures we are emotional creatures.

I get your point. But you've made your argument much weaker because you tried to push the comparison too far to IMHO unreasonable levels.

McSkillet
a) Lost everything in his STEAM account (worth 100k to 200k) because what he did was against the terms of service of STEAM. (He broke the rules, IE NOT INNOCENT) Everything lost in the STEAM account can be replaced by just spending MORE MONEY.
b) Still had money from his youtubing income and whatever royalties he got from the CS:GO item gambling sites he was part owner of. STEAM did not take that money away. Even if he had spent it all, he still had his McLaren Sports Car which is worth over $200,000.

The Son now without a Mother and Baby Sister:
a) Lost his family members due to NO WRONG DOING on either his part nor his mother's part.
b) His MOTHER and SISTER are DEAD. There is NO equivalent replacement. Money CANNOT replace the lives of one's mother and sister from what all indications was a caring family.

The thought of you trying to say that the two are equivalent in any way just to win an internet argument makes me sick.

Whack-a-mole is an ongoing process. It wasn't a matter of cracking down ages ago, clapping their hands together and calling it done. There are always new sites and operations popping up.

Do you get my point? lol cause it doesn't seem like it, given your immediate posts falls directly into everything I said.

My post was supporting a point that Bawjaws which was telling someone to get over it doesn't work. And IME in life this is absolutely true and I can take it a step further and explain part of why that doesn't work. To exhibit that point I posted an example of how telling someone to get over it feels to a person and I do it in a direct clear way that I know everyone will be able to clearly see is wrong. It is so effective you admit it made you sick to your stomach.

So what seems to have happened here not surprisingly is your emotions have taken over as you have become sick to your stomach and you are now unable to reasonably process the information in my post, this causes you to fill in a meaning that does not exist and inhibits you from being able to take away the constructive advice given in the post and think about it rationally as you said it made you sick to your stomach, well that is probably exactly how McSkillet felt when person after person was invalidating his feeling and telling him to get over it, sick to his stomach so sick he decided to end his own life and so unfair he decided to enact that unfair nature on 2 random people.

You state that my argument is weaker.
A I wasn't arguing with someone to say anything you appear to be trying to counter did I ever in any way shape or form say that McSkillets actions were correct?
B I said emotions are not rational and you spend 2 paragraphs trying to use rational explanations to explain something is different.
This is why rational explanations do not work, because a person in a high emotional state is not capable of rational thought. If you want to improve your own life and the life of people you care about you have to learn to navigate the emotional landscape. It is not a rational landscape, it does not in any way shape or form respond to moral rules of right and wrong.
McSkillet didn't have kids or a wife that I know of, his entire world was his skins career. To him having valve take that away from him feels exactly the same as a person slamming into his care 100mph head on it feels like an event far outside of his control. He just like the overwhelming vast majority of humans will not take personal responsibility calm down and collectively think about it especially not if the people he interacts with, probably many on forums, are constantly invalidating him.

Let me explain this in a more basic way that everyone should be able to connect to. Lets say you have a daughter and she is dating a real asshat. you know the loser is never going to amount to anything and are deeply concerned about her future. So you tell her this, every time he screws up you go "see I told you so", you need to get rid of that guy, every chance you get you berate the guy or you try to use rational logical arguments for why she should get rid of him and how it will ruin her life, and everytime she is unhappy you go well its your fault you chose that loser. Much to your utter surprise she just keeps hanging all over that guy. What is going on you say? This is a simple case where invalidating her emotions does the exact opposite of what you want and actually drives her more into the very thing you are trying to get rid of. Rationally because society told you this should work you think that making arguments against him should enlighten her. But it doesn't.

The thing is now that I have introduced you to this concept you are now personally responsible by your own logic for how you interact with everyone around you. From this point on in your life you have been warned and you no longer have any excuse for invalidating peoples feelings in situations you feel are important. Cause now you know if you invalidating their feeling heavily you become personally responsible for their actions because you have been warned how it actually effects them.

This is a side point but I don't know that you know anything about McSkillets personal finances for all you know the McLaren was financed and his gambling site was going underwater after the changes or maybe he just had some random things going on no one knows about that were contingent upon him having income coming in at the rate it was prior. But none of that matters because even if he was rolling in the cash the simple fact it changed in the downward direction can be enough to push a person into depression. Why? Because emotions are not quantitative and rational. A star with millions of dollars can kill themselves. What matters is how you feel, not what is real. If you want to make real get better you have to respect how people feel.

He didn’t just kill him self , he actively chose to kill others in the process , earlier driving through a playground where he could have killed more children.

Zero excuses I don’t care if he lost his entire fucking world - he actively chose to hurt others and likely kill others in his suicide.

Makes him a shithead murderer with no excuses and no sympathy deserved.
