I do my serious work in OS X but revisited my gaming PC because I wanted to dabble again in Star Trek Online, Topspin 2, and a few other games.
My experience: Installed the latest Windows 10.
I installed the latest AMD GPU driver but got errors because apparently installing the R version of Windows means MS hasn't included necessary dll files needed for AMD's graphics drivers. So, I had to hunt down the Media Player installation. They'll get you one way or the other!
Star Trek Online launcher: Loads a process that uses 12% of CPU but no window comes up. No compatibility or security settings make a difference.
Topspin 2: Doesn't work. Works fine in Windows 7.
I wanted to verify my GPU settings so I tried to launch the four benchmarks from Unigine I installed. Not one of them would load. dll missing errors.
This is after my original Windows 10 installation was bricked by Microsoft because I didn't know it was company policy to brick insider builds, instead of doing the intelligent/fair thing (just telling the user it is expired and will shut down in an hour). So, after the work of setting up everything again from scratch (which is only partially done because I had plenty of other stuff on that drive, like Civ IV/V), I see that Microsoft is really delivering in the compatibility front.
Look at the energy level in the Apple's marketshare thread, the venom toward Apple. If people would stop fighting that completely useless ideological war and focus on what actually matters to the PC platform (Vulkan + Linux becoming the universal gaming standard, getting rid of the duopoly console walled gardens as well) then, perhaps, we would see something other than a petulant captured PC gamer market.
If you capture yourself then pointing fingers at a platform that isn't about gaming and never has been (Mac) isn't going to help you much.
