AMD Second Quarter Financial Results Show Highest Quarterly Income in Seven Years

AMD has released their financial results for the second quarter 2018 and they are impressive! Revenue was $1.76 billion; a 53 percent increase year-over-year and up 7 percent quarter-over-quarter. This was driven by the Embedded and Semi-Custom business in addition to the Computing and Graphics and Enterprise. Operating income was $153 million compared to an operating loss of $1 million a year ago based on GAAP. Net income rose to $116 million compared to the loss of $42 million a year ago and continues the rising trend of $81 million from the previous quarter. The Computing and Graphics segment was driven by the sales of Ryzen and Radeon products. The decline of the blockchain market led to 3% quarter-over-quarter lower revenue from the sale of GPUs to that market. Last of note in the financial results was the increase in GPU sales to datacenters. The AMD analysis is found here.

"Most importantly, we believe our long-term technology bets position us very well for the future. We are confident that with the continued execution of our product roadmaps, we are on an excellent trajectory to drive market share gains and profitable growth."
 
Good for them. I'm looking forward to seeing the next lines of processors from Intel and AMD battle it out and some healthy competition again. I might finally upgrade from my 4790k / asrock z97extreme6ac build.

There is only one thing that I wish AMD would. Put a little more love in the chipset. A bit more AHCI performance, some PCI ID's instead of the generic bridges. Let a person take a little pride in looking in the device manager.
 
Great news! Let’s hope that they can keep the momentum. Happily back on AMD with my main system.

You won't regret it, unless you are going to try to force Windows 7 on it. I retired a 5Ghz 3770K for my then 1600 @ 4.1Ghz with DDR3 2933 C14 and it was a wonderful upgrade. Everything is super smooth and quick. Games work just as well or better despite the clock speed difference. My 2700 @ 4.3 is even better!

It's great to see AMD get here. Now we just need some of the uneducated tools that rely on Twitch streamers for their HW news to start buying.

definitely agree with you there. hopefully that gets sorted out sooner than later.

This vacation is turning out better than expected. The so called expected BlockChain disaster doesn't happen when your CPUs sell like HotCakes. Counting profits..$$$

End of the day, could care less which megacorp sticker is on it, any path that leads to me getting a better product for less money is the one I cheer for. My money is all going toward some board members fat bonus check anyway, why should I care if he has a red, green, or blue tie on?

Selling?

If you haven't looked, 3770k's have kept their value better than pretty much.... anything. Because they're the BEST chip people like me with 2500k's can throw into their motherboards. It's not right, man... It's just not right. *sniff*

Well, I wasn't being sarcastic, but a little cheeky...I'm sure theirs someone out there who went from an i7 2700k to the Ryzen 7 2700x. It's going to be a very nice upgrade for you, enjoy! I went from a 4790k -> 1600x -> 2700x....then upgrade to an x570 move the 2700x over to that, then get whatever their next chip is.

Have fun, it's one of my favorite CPUs I've ever owned....Under my H100i It boost and sits at 4.2Ghz in Overwatch and in Fortnite stays at 4.35Ghz a good chunk of the time.

I have a 1600, so I probably won't be upgrading this cycle, maybe not for a few years. Need to upgrade my rx 480 first, and I have other priorities at the moment.

yea, isn't it great ... because few if any are brand loyal anymore because CORPORATE nailed the coffin lid shut with stuff like $700 GTX 1070's and $1000 GTX 1080 Ti's and they still haven't brought down the prices instead charging MSRP for almost 3 year old tech.

Maybe Intel can start selling T-Shirts with their logo on it for $40 a pop and get customers to pay for THEIR advertising, maybe call it product loyalty :cool:

Good news for my AMD stock I bought a couple of months ago. Made $200 today :) I'm hoping it keeps going up, up, up!

Always one or two in the crowd that refuse to acknowledge a good design and argue just to stir things up. Razor is funny tho as he suggested Crypto would just go up and up, yet history proved once again what goes up must come back down. Glad to see AMD use some of the profits and invest it back into R&D.
