I have good news for the glorious PC master race. It's possible we're going to get Red Dead Redemption 2 for the PC. Those dirty console peasants kept the first one to themselves, but a LinkedIn profile appears to show a programmer has worked on the PC version of RDR2. Let's keep our finger crossed and get ready to play in the old west.

Their LinkedIn profile also lists Red Dead Redemption 2, and the platforms they worked on: PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

So, it'll first come to the PS4/XB1 platform, then in a year or two when the next generation of PS/XB comes out it'll come to that, then 6-12 months after that we'll get a PC version?

It was about 1.5 years with GTA V so I doubt it will be 2.5-3 years. If it's as well built as GTA V, i'm ok with the wait. My backlog needs attention anyway.

Beggars can't be choosers, and PC gamers have been begging for this since the original. I won't get my hopes up too much yet though. While it's promising, the source info isn't all that solid.

Oh hell yea! Only played a few hours of the first one, I loved the premise and the gameplay but I was honestly completely turned off by the graphics ar the time. Was waiting for a PC port, haha.

I wonder if it runs in the PS3 emulator?

Not going to believe it until we get official word from Rockstar.

You can play it on PC through PlayStation NOW. RPCS3 has been making large improvements recently, but I wouldn't necessarily say RDR is completely playable yet.

I'll let you know how it is on October 26th, when I get my delicious Collector's Box.

I thought there was a way to play RDR1 using Xbox Live/Windows 10 Xbox app.
I just read the headline, never went any further haha.

The little I played was enjoyable, but yeah....M/KB kinda guy, so I don't finish most console games which is why I stopped buying them.
It would be baller if they released a reworked RDR1 for the PC crowd for pre-ordering RDR2...I would totally.

wow.. "confirmation" from a linkedin profile of a guy who has worked with PC's.. who has since removed that from his profile

thats some SERIOUS stretching there

Will my prediction of Red Dead Online and Saloon Tokens for $99.99 and people killing other players by spawning 50 wagons on them come to pass?

If it really is coming and they release it later I hope they learned a bit from GTA V how to hasten that process up...

I have been thinking the same, will there be giant wind mills spawned horizontally? I loved those in GTA V haha.

I remember before RDR was released there was a screenshot showing it for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. That image broke my heart.

He's probably been fired for unintentionally leaking that Rockstar is making a PC version 2 years before they're ready to announce it.

Why there wasn't a PC version of Red Dead Redemption:

Basically, a PC version wasn't planned and no code was made for one, and the RDR engine is a total mess with no documentation, and it was enough work just to get RDR running well on 360 / PS3.

RDR is unlikely to get a re-release on newer consoles for the same reason.

What a great post! Thank you so much!

they know PC is the largest platform.

You think so?

GTA V has sold over 90 million copies. Best I can find, it's estimated 5-10 million copies have been sold on Steam, which is likely responsible for a very large percentage of overall PC sales. Even if we estimate a very generous 15 million copes on PC between various digital suppliers and physical copies, that still represents just 16% of overall sales. In reality, I bet it's closer to 10%.

PC might have the biggest player base, but it's no doubt dominated by PC exclusive (or PC oriented) titles. MMOs, MOBAs, Battle Royal, and other online competitive are responsible for the large number of PC players. I'd be willing to bet that AAA, multi-platform releases (like RDR2) are ALWAYS dominated by console sales.

There is no doubt in my mind that R* could sell a lot of copies of RDR2 on PC, but there is no way it would ever be the highest grossing platform.

Yes and no. Rockstar is a poor example since they stack the deck by withholding their games on PC for a couple years before release, so of course console sales will be higher. Ubisoft is probably a fairer comparison. The PC comes in around 20% for multiplatform AAA games, but it's been slowly growing over the years. It's highly possible they'll become the bigger marketshare than the Xbox One in the next couple years, but they're still a ways off from the PS4.

Even if consoles sell more games than the PC, not making a PC version is leaving money on the table. I like big sandbox games, so if a PC version of RDR2 arrives I'm sure I'll buy it.

P.S. All big sandbox games except GTA V, which I didn't enjoy. I wanted to like it, but even with a game pad the car control feels wonky.

Regardless of the speculation surrounding a random LinkedIn page, I've been confident from the beginning RDR2 would come to PC. I summed up my feelings about it in another post, but basically I agree with what you say, it's a guaranteed money maker on PC and R* is smart enough to know that. The first game didn't come to PC because the code was a terrible mess. A PC version was never planned from the beginning and I don't think R* anticipated just how popular that title would be. By the time they figured it out, I think it made more sense to look at what was coming next (GTA V) instead of wasting time and money trying to get a sloppy engine running on PC. Now they are working with an engine that is running very well on PC, and they knew from the beginning the amount of anticipation surrounding this title. They also learned with GTA V that by delaying the PC version, they can focus on getting the more profitable console versions out as soon as possible, and then get people to double dip on a PC copy later. Keeping quiet on a PC version and releasing it well after the console version has saturated the market is a smart business strategy, even if its not very consumer friendly.

You have to own an Xbox, which kind of defeats the purpose. If you own an Xbox One then you can stream it to your PC.

You can play it with the PlayStation NOW streaming service without needing to own a PS4, however. But it streams at 720p and I heard the experience was awful.

Depends if the ROI is there. If it costs more to get a PC version working and distributed than how much you make in sales then it's not worth it, which sounds like why the original didn't come to PC based on the video above.

They'll make it another double dip situation like they did with GTA V. Release it on Xbox One and PS4 then 1-2 years later release it on PC for the potential double dip from fans of the series.

Yes, yes you can.
I read up on it after posting, and I meet all the requirements.
I'm just not sure I want to install the Xbox app to my perfectly setup master race gaming PC. :(
I'll probably think about it when RDR2 GOTY comes out, and maybe Rockstar will have released a RDR1 PC port. :)

It wouldn't surprise me if you can play RDR via emulator around the same time RDR2 is actually released on PC.
