NVIDIA Announces Quadro GV100

I totally agree. Many people get used to the consumer tier of things, $20-$50 here or there for an app maybe even an annual license. Most never see the higher end professional solutions or their costs. I remember in the nineties/early 2000's seeing the annual fees for Avid and being floored by that. It's another world most will barely ever be aware of.

Oh yeah. Manufacturing is the same. Vision systems can go for 100s of thousands; now we have access to a 10k card with AI cores and CUDA? Roll your own starts to look cost effective, especially since you avoid the annual fees.

Exactly this. If you had a learning model that had you spin up the custom tensor processors in Google non stop, you're looking at 50k a year. For 1. Just to rent it.

Pure and Nvidia doing that integrated stack for $1m... Not actually that bad.

When you deal with professional products, or even enterprise IT, the numbers would make the average geeks head spin.

The 3d Scanner i mentioned in an earlier post, as an alternative Leica have one, it's considered a bit 'pro-sumer'. It's $16,500

When a licence for the CAD software you use can hit 17k (with 20% maintenance per annum) then a one time fee of 10k isn't a big deal if the performance delta is there. The more simulations you can crank out in a day, the more you can tweak your design, for instance.

This is so true. We have a handful of high end BOXX workstations running P6000's here at work... and the software they run is $150k (for the 32 core license) and we have 2 licenses at that price... (Additive Mfg simulation software)

Don't even want to talk about the printers themselves, they're in the millions of dollars....

$9k for a kick ass card doesn't seem to bad by comparison :D

DynaSolv?

It's not at all uncommon to drop 20k on a single use license for a lot of the professional software that runs on this kind of card. Take a look at the costs for something like Petrel (without even the larger modules) and 10k for a card doesn't seem like much if it can get the workload done faster.

Even then though, most corps (like the one I work at) buy 4000-level cards for most rigs, with a few 5000 and 6000 level cards interspersed for dept. activities or very specific users/roles. It's not uncommon for me to put a PO through for 10 P5000 cards at a time, and the HP Z840s we drop them in are about 15k apiece anyways.

I guess long story short is Enterprise market =/= consumer market and it's silly to think it does.

Anyone notices how many times he said "Buy more save more?" Nvidia has risen to cult status.

Well TBH AFAIK the Quadro's have always been ridiculously expensive. That sticker shock has been there for awhile. You can usually count on them to make a Titan look cheap. I remember looking at Titan Z's a couple of years ago and coming across the Quadro listings and my jaw dropped.

This. Quadro cards have always been many times more expensive than the top consumer card at the time. But this time it's a big deal?

Well, the first time he said it it was "Buy more GPUS, save more money." The context of which is you can spend 1/7 the amount of money on initial investment and use 1/10 the power compared to CPU-powered farms for the same amount of computational power with GPUs.

It was still cringey, nonetheless, and I knew people would immediately misinterpret it whether willingly or unwillingly.

ummm wut? You might want to learn Nvidia's typical release schedule.

God, these recent "xXxSniperxXx Gamhurrrrrss" coming into the tech field and forums are disgustingly undereducated on the subject of technology. They need to spend a little less time watching click-bait youtubers and a bit more time actually working with the tech.

Not gonna deny that, but (hopefully) some of them will actually look under the hood of their gear (instead of "ivory tower speculation") and start heading to websites with some actual knowledge/serious reviews -- like HardOCP ;)

I will say that hearing Linus speak on LinusTechTips makes me want to punch his face in (his voice really gets on my nerves, for whatever reason). He's doing well, so more power to him, but that voice is a deal-breaker for me. That, and he drops stuff. Makes me think that Linus will drop stuff making rigs (like drinks), and ruin the goodies.

At least he's better than Jake Paul ...

Yeah, I'm not his biggest fan. He has hit his target demographics really well, though.

I think that it’s more that this Quadro is nearly twice the price of the Radeon Pro SSG currently plus quite a jump over previous Quadro releases I believe. Wasn’t P6000 around $5k?

You are looking at list prices.
We don't pay list prices, we get the hardware a lot cheaper...the hardware cost is a small part of the cost....software is pricey....VER pricey.

The cost of QUADRO's are fine for the target segment....which is NOT consumers.
But boy how do consumers whine over the wrong stuff...

Is the your first SKU release?
If yes....try looking at the past....nothing new here.

If no....seek medical attention as your memory is failing....bad!

No my man, my first nvidia card was gf2mx I remember when they were trying to release every 6 months but as time past on its getting longer and longer and with AMD giving a half-assed go at in the last 7 years AND with all thats been going on with punk ass miners I fear for the PC Gaming market.Honesty nvidia IS going another way little by little.Their might be a day when they start to make bigger bucks selling overpriced BS like quadros and DGXs ,cars etc PLUS segmenting cards like the TITAN so you can NEVER have the best for under 1000$ (which they also keep raising the price up).Look what im trying to get at is... Its looking BAD all around. Ill swear to god and all here that I say it was the biggest blow to PC Gamers when 3DFX went under,it just took this long to really feel the effect :/

PS Shout out to my OG 3DFX Bros pour a 40 out for are long gone homie x}

PPS Next release of cards 2+2 going = Jello LOL Nvidia taking a page outta the Intel hardware fuckup manual .
