Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Cutscenes haven't been obnoxious. The only thing I hope they can tighten up is the black screen load time when transitioning from game to a dialog sequence.

A lot of the difference in reception might be that Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a new IP, so there weren't as many expectations about the game, whereas Mass Effect was a well established and loved IP and ME:A was a letdown in comparison to the rest of the series.
Is it the game's fault that some people had unreasonable expectations? As someone put it: People are disappointed by their own unrealistic expectations.
Regardless, I don't think the game was taken apart because it wasn't living up to the predecessors. Contrary to popular belief many fans of the original series liked ME:A. Except for a few outliers the brunt of the libel came from newcomers to the franchise, who only got in the game because of the free pre-release week to subscribers of origin access. At least that's how it seemed to me.

But I digress. I Guess the moral of the story is that the reception depends on the attitude of the people playing the game. In this case people started the game because they wanted to find something to like. In the case of ME:A many started the game because they wanted to find something to hate. Which is especially easy if you offer the game for free. As having to pay for it will turn away most people who are only looking to find faults.

Hmm that's a good point. And I think it's a large part of why game studios don't make demos any longer. If people spend money on an experience they're more apt to defend it from their own critiques.

I don't know, on my PC the transition during cut scenes is less then a second. It is much more noticeable on my Xbox one x, but still is barely over a second.

That being said after being able to play on both PC and Xbox, I'd be willing to bet a good portion of the reported bugs and angst is coming from consoles.

I had maybe two real bugs, and one crash in the 30 hours or so I was able to play the PC version, but have hit all kinds of issues on the Xbox. Crashes, sync issues, horrific pop in, really bad random textures, missing textures on NPCs, missing cloths on NPCs, not being able to make contact during fights etc.

They were the best of friends...
I just finished that part of the main storyline. Most excellent.

non-spoiler in nearby side mission: Lol'ed at using lockpicks on the netherparts of a mare, after a short while of 'WTF am I supposed to interact with to trigger the next part of this quest'? .

Did anyone else pickpocket-farm the wounded at the monastery?

can this game be played with stealth? i.e. as a stealth approach? Are there any stealing mechanics?

Yes very much so. It ends up being a bit op but then again there's a need for balance across the board. You can practice pickpocket and level it without consequences if you want. Stealth is leveled at the same time. Like everything else you can game the system if want. It's not as if you are cheating it's just using the opportunities the game gives to you. There's no limit to using the pickpocket quest to level your skills.

As is there's no need to "cheat" just use what the game gives you. It unfortunately puts you in an very easy OP position if want. Hopefully over time with mods and development it won't be so easy to manipulate the system.

This game is a dating simulator I like it get the kids out of the basement game. :X3: I just got done with the Bandits camp that was pretty fun but it took like 11 hours to get there.
Looking forward to the save feature though I mean you want to save and you can't sleep for one hour because you slept too much. Also I was running down a hill and I hurt both of my feet like a dumb ass and I was seeing RED then
you can get food posioning from eating old food I guess but it wears off after a while.

I tried my hand at lockpicking finally I didn't understand it at first but now I get the hang of it but if you breaks all the picks it sucks I see why they are nerfing it I wonder if it's easier with a controller than a mouse.

Lockpicking gets way easier as you level up. Even barely level up too. Does not take much.

I had a good LOL at that this weekend when I did that quest.

I'm not real far yet in the game but in regards to the random encounters while fast traveling my favorite one is when I can't blackmail the poachers to give me money for outing them as a poacher and they threaten to tell everyone I falsely accused them so I respond I must be mistaken in accusing them and when they walk away I knock them out and strip them down to nothing.

The door bug is my biggest complaint (Not being able to go thru a door.). Also have issues going up stairs in Rattay. Other minor issues but nothing to bitch about. I'm not sure how far I'm into the game but having a great time.

I'm not saying you're entirely wrong, but when anyone offered any of the above defenses for ME:A they were booed into oblivion (yes, pun intended). And from what I saw that game had way less and not as serious bugs as this game has. And btw the "if you haven't purchased it you don't get a say" is kindergarten level reasoning.
I didn't care so much about the bugs as the writing, voice acting, and everything else that went into the story of ME:A. Even if you leave your expectations at the door, you have to admit that the story is shitty. By contrast, Kingdom Come has a solid story and presentation.

Yeah I hate when I'm overloaded and trying to get to a chest in the inn on the 2nd floor. I end up just dropping everything and shuttling up and down. Otherwise it would take 10 minutes to get up the stairs.

Some of the conversations were badly written, and badly acted true. I had no problem withe the main story arc. Au contraire. I was left wanting more after they cancelled every SP DLC.

This is by far the best looking game I've played you forget you are in a game it's so good maybe not that good but it does the trick.
You could easily spend realistically a whole year exploring the game =)

The forests are the best looking I've ever seen in a game, but the building and people textures are not even close.

It doesn't make a difference to me the character models hell some of them look better then me in real life so I'm not complaining. The draw distance and how the bandits just pop out of the woods is great I haven't had this feeling with a game sine Dark Age of Camelot and no way was that game more realistic looking. If someone made a MMO with these graphics that would be pretty amazing and similar physics while adding all the cool spells they had in Dark Age of Camelot. I think the character models were dumbed down for consoles probably and that 2013 8 core AMD Jaguar chip.

Forests/foilage is one thing CryEngine does really well out of the box and developers don't have to spend much time/resources on it as most of the assets are included.

I may as well start here. This is one of several games I've noticed lately that does this one second freeze for lack of a better term on me while I play. Video only. Audio continues normally, no other issues. (Past this I do have LOD and texture pop in and flickering issues like everyone else does for this title.)

^^ I've seen this in a few other games, too. I didn't see it in Destiny 2. It seems like this started up for me after I did a defrag recently. The defrag was good. I verified files. My drivers are up to date. Hard drive had no bad sectors. What do you all think? (Not trying to derail thread)

where is the 1.3 patch?!...they said last week it would be out, now this week etc...

I don't want them to rush it. We'll see if it shows up this week or not.

I don't mind them taking the time to get it right but moreso the fact that they promised something during a certain timeframe and did not deliver...sometimes I wish these developers would just not say anything about patch eta's and just put it out when it's finished...you're creating expectations in people's heads

I'm headed in that direction eventually. ;) Not sure how I could do it or if possible on present rig.

No ssd? Dude. Even a little one like a 256gb just for high end games. You don't have a spare sata port?

I understand not upgrading the GPU or platform atm but ssd? Kind of mandatory on Hardforum. Might have to report you.

I'm looking at picking up a new 1TB 860 Pro. $479 right now on Samsung's store, but 7-10 days for shipping (it's around $629 elsewhere). That is how much I paid for my first 512GB 850 Pro.

I have all Low capacity SSDs one 512 and two 256s wish I could trade them all in for one 1TB ssd. I just know if I buy one I won't get anything out of it so I just leave the majority of my stuff on the two 3TB HDDs.

I've got one. A 476GB Samsung 840. It's half full. I've tried to save it for OS, Programs, and a handful of select games.

I wish I could add a second SSD tomy rig but I don't think that's possible. Believe me, you're preaching to the choir. ;)

(I derailed this thread. Sorry!)

Guys, games don't give two shits about SSD speed. Anything that hooks up to SATA these days can read at ~550MB/s and that's far, far faster than any game can use. The biggest difference is not the speed over spinners (100-200MB/s range), but the 1000x reduced latency.

Go big and cheap with a warranty!

I installed this game originally on a HDD then switched the game to a SSD big difference in load times.....does it affect the game well you don't have to wait around =)

The saving thing really hasn't bothered me I thought it would it does take time though I haven't made any savior shnapps potions because I seen a video it can be expensive "in video game money folks" so I just use Beds and Inns.

Did the cleanliness side quest. I need to up my fistfighting. Took forever to knock homeboy down. Also, no nudity in that one? Surprised.

I hope they fix the stairs bug. That is annoying.
