YouTube was infected with cryptocurrency-mining ads this week. According to Trend Micro, ads from Google's DoubleClick platform contained Javascript for mining Monero via Coinhive. The issue became obvious when AV software began flagging the site and users noticed higher-than-normal CPU usage.

Unfortunately, as is the anonymous nature of cryptocurrency, even digging further and finding the account that the coin is being mined, there really isn't a way to expose the culprit. Trend Micro stated that the problem started as early as January 18, which means that there could be quite a bit of Monero mined using other people’s resources since that time.

This is absolute bullshit.

First the Android browser redirect shit being spread through Google and other major advertising networks and now bitcoin mining?

Google and others need to take responsibility for the ads they serve. The best would be to disable any scripting what so ever, and just serve up dumb image banners, but if there is to be scripting, Google should have to have an actual code review of the source for every ad before they allow it to go live. None of this, upload, pay, click accept, go live without any human being checking it.

They are extremely negligent. They need to be held liable for every ad served through their networks!

I for one am completely shocked. SHOCKED I say.

Ads need to be static images, not random blocks of programs we're supposed to run.

Google? Held liable? LOL! Folks are too distracted by Microsoft's not really a big deal to notice or care.

I watch youtube through FF. Have ad block and nocoin. I have negative feel bads about it, so that makes me feel good.

So yeah Youtube, and every other motherfucking website on the internet, this is why I run Adblock plus.

I mean what happened to the fucking good ol days when an ad was simple a rectangular box somewhere on a webpage that had a img src link to some picture. Why the fuck do ads need to run any sort of code at all? EVER!?

To provide you with a better user experience of course.

By tracking the muthafucking life out of you.

I've screwed up the fb suggested ads. I used to hide them saying they weren't relevant to me, but no fuck that, that's just doing their work for them. I now get shit so far off the wall it's hilarious. I like to post awesome comments on them. :) I haven't heard back yet if a motorcycle clothing store sells gimp suits yet. I don't ride nor have any interest in bikes.

First I have NoScript even though it can be a hassle, but Doubleclick is the number one blocked scripts then Google-analytics. Heck 15 years ago I would go into my settings files and redirect doubleclick to a null address so none of their stuff could return any info even back on Netscape Navigator.
