One of NVIDIA’s Most Coveted Products Is a Ruler

It’s the NVIDIA ruler. And, as many NVIDIANs have learned, taking this modest slab of PCB board to the right place — and showing it to the right people — gets an immediate reaction. Each time the ruler appears at NVIDIA’s internal company store — which has sold 5,000 of these rulers so far — it sells out in minutes.

John teamed up with Andy, a veteran systems engineer, who designed the schematic for the ruler using some of the same electronic design tools used to build NVIDIA’s other products, and Oscar, who did the ruler’s layout. What makes the NVIDIA ruler unique, the pair explains, is that unlike other rules that reference the most widely used parts, the NVIDIA ruler shows the parts engineers at NVIDIA most often use to put together the company’s products.

Yeah, it it went for consumer sale, I'd be super tempted to get one -- simply for looks and bragging rights.

No, but it does signal to others you're a nerd, which has become cool.

Don't worry, you can get similar items elsewhere to help measure your.. things..

For example: Adafruit has something similar.

.. then there's the fancy euro artwork-ish one..

... then there's one you can actually make electronics work on..

.. some Israeli one on New Egg.

.. digikey has a reference ruler in red if that's your fancy..

Yep Modi beat me too it. I was just about to say that this goes to show that fanboys are sheeple who have a very narrow field of view when it comes to things made by the company they're fanning over...

Sure, nV's is no doubt unique insofar as what it has on it for the reference items, but there are some damn close ones to it that are far cheaper, as Modi pointed out heh
Some even have LEDs and Magnifiers (saw on on YouTube a few months back, where the guy had designed his own for his store).

I can't remember which one of our suppliers it is, but they provide a bunch of these to our company as promotional products. NVidia's is a little different bcause of the socket pads, but otherwise you can find these all over.

This is cool, but by no means unique.

I got a free ruler from Adafruit years back with an order. Similar to this one, but less specific to Nvidia...
