AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition Introduction @ [H]

Hmm.. I don't know. It might be a bust (probably cause I'm on Crossfire).

First, the AMD app seemed like a great idea. However, I could not connect to my computer with QR code or manual connect. Might be a security issue on my network, but Steam In-Home Streaming works fine on this same machine. Not a good start.

Did clean install and enabled Enhanced Sync and WattMan profile. One thing that is great is that you can save and load profiles now. At least that is cool.

Started Prey. Crashed right before loading the level. There was a pop-up about some memory location error. Hmm.

Loaded Far Cry Primal. Got to play for about 1 minute, but it was choppy and didn't look like 60fps. The AMD performance overlay would not show up after hitting the hotkey. Then it completely froze my system. Control Alt Delete didn't work, had to press the power button. Hmm.

Rebooted, disabled Enhanced Sync. Prey now loaded, was getting awesome performance (around 80fps at 4K max setting except AA). Performance overlay did show up this time. However, the text was super small and impossible to read without standing up and getting close to the screen. Also only showed GPU1, no option for Crossfire or text size that I saw. Hmm.

Far Cry Primal now worked, getting around 70 fps with 4K Very High settings. Overlay worked, but still too small. Had to switch back to Afterburner. Hmm.

Loaded up Deus Ex Mankind Divided. DirectX12 mGPU still not working (this has never worked for me on this machine, so it was sort of a long shot anyhow). Only 1 GPU active, not playable even on High settings (40 fps if even that). Hmm.

OpenGL Crossfire performance bug still not fixed. Tried RAGE, getting only 35fps (when previously with 1 Vega card I could get like 80 fps). Hmm.

I think I've seen what I need to. This release sounded so great, but looks like things are still not solid, again, probably cause I'm the 1 dude with a Vega Crossfire rig. Hmm.

Like I said earlier, Enhanced Sync is great if it works with your game. If it doesn't work with your game, it's a right royal mess, though. CTD's and Bluescreens... Fortunately you can set it per game profile as opposed to just enabling it globally.

I can confirm this on my son's 270. had it set to global then fired up Skyrim and got a BSoD before it could load his save. Went in and disabled it in the profile for Skyrim and it worked no problem. He tried Sniper Elite III and it worked but his frames were all over the place, from 25-110FPS and it was hitching terribly. Disabled it and it was good again.

It doesn't seem to work like adaptive sync which is a shame, but you can usually tell when it's going to crash, when we started Skyrim, the background in the loading screen would have major horizontal ripples going up the monitor than it would BSoD, tried it 4 times with no dice. Far Cry 4 seems to work great with it. Will report back later after more testing.

Edit: The Frame rate capper doesn't seem to work at all in any game he's tried so far.

I see that the AMD CEO is doing a real good job with RTG now that the loser is gone. (Hopefully, he will screw things up at Intel instead.) New driver release, lots of features, bug fixes galore and no more stupid, useless hype involved. They are just doing their job and letting the results speak for themselves.

While Raja had his downsides, including hype problems, and likely Vega, I wouldn't call him a total failure. At the end of the day, he is the guy who helmed RTG into fruitation, and it's under RTG, and Raja's direction and leadership (and those under him) that their graphics drivers have advanced to this point where they are on par with Nvidia's.

You may be right but, I still think he also managed to make a mess of things at the same time. With his whole goal to sell off RTG to Intel, his motives just were not focused in the correct place, at least in my opinion. Oh well, he is gone and things are progressing better than before, at least for the moment.

Only thing is, most of the features they advertised in the slides don't work. Unless the results you speak of are system freezes and game crashing, lol. (seriously, no troll. I'm a huge AMD fan, the driver is not finished).

No freezes here at all.....But i think some of the features like FRTC and Enhanced sync probably only work in select games...For me they just dont do anything rather than crash lol....But i guess certain games and certain cards mileage can vary. I know the app for my phone doest work on my Moto e4 lol.....Not sure i would use it much anyway. :)

ALT-R Crashes TF2, deemed worthless for now. Waiting for update/fix.

They broke the overclock again. This time on the 280X/7970 series. It's stuck at 1GHz

How freaking hard is it to set an overclock? Seriously?! It's one f'n piece of data

sometimes it requires a driver install/reinstall. Occasionally lately happens to my Vega where the clocks just hang or limit themselves.

So I tried to downgrade to the previous AMD driver to test something, totally borked my system.

Did clean install, I thought that would be OK. It rebooted and gave an error. Then I did latest DDU safe mode uninstall, and tried to install the old driver. Gave error 182: could not find compatible hardware.

Tried a again, but every time, it could not detect the Vega card. Both cards look fine, have the lights on, and were working good enough to use my computer (at 1080p) but AMD driver didn't like it.

Then today, while researching, Windows (in the background) updated to some AMD driver (not sure which) but it seems working now. Kind of strange.

AMD refuses to support old DX9 games, which were broken by the new driver.

Lots of backlash today, I bet they flip within the next few days.

i can't be bothered to lose brain cells reading reddit but my guess is it's mostly the UI overlay stuff that's breaking them and people are to lazy to black list the games so they'd rather bitch at AMD instead of reading the notes that specifically said it may not work in all games. either way it's not like they drastically changed any of the API's since most of them are from previous drivers released through out 2017 so i doubt it's specifically API related.

At one time i did love those games............But ive moved one by now and and wouldn't be to bothered using pre Adrenalin drivers. They seem to work pretty darn good with Home world Remastered, HaloWars, Battlezone Redux, Prey, Ashes, and Black Mesa. Home world Remastered looks pretty amazing in 4k vsr.

If EA had any common sense at all they would release The original CnC remastered in DX12 or Vulkan and i would buy them again.

EA != sense

They should use nV AI routines to remake the engines ;)

if you were around for the C&C4 alpha/beta testing you'd understand just how out of touch EA really is.. personally i hope the C&C franchise stays dead after dealing with that garbage.

It's not great, but it also seems overblown. I've had old games that only worked with old drivers and that was on Nvidia. It happens.

People think PC games are forever compatible, but a lot of times this isn't the case. Try getting Max Payne 1 to run on Windows 10. I spent a few days with this and gave up (ended up buying it for PS4, but the game didn't age as well as I thought).

This. I had a hell of a time trying to get H:CE on disc to even work on W7. The OG Bulletstorm and Bioshock on disc was a PITA as well but that was due to GFWL.
