Jon Burton, the lead programmer for 1996's Sonic 3-D Blast, is making a more polished version of this classic video game. This version is being made available as a patch that can be installed into a ROM of the Sega Genesis version, and then played on a Genesis emulator. This should be of interest to Sega fans everywhere since it's supposed to improve on the original. Give it a try when it comes out if you're into retro gaming. Watch the director's cut video below.

This was one of my favorite Saturn games! Talk about nostalgia. :p Good to see old games getting new life.

The isometric view was a bit weird for this game (seemed to be a common theme to try to make 16-bit games seem more "3D") but it was pretty cool for its time.

With the state (very popular) of retro gaming, I'm surprised more older titles don't get love from ex developers. While it might not make them rich, a lot of these games were the launching point for their careers, and probably still hold an important place in their hearts. Setting up a little patreon and download page with information on the title seems like a logical way to share your love with the community.

I remember being all excited for the game when it came out.

I rented it, all pumped up for a new sonic game and... I hated the game. Even back then when Sonic was still awesome and brilliant. Absolutely hated it. I suppose all the 3D sonic games followed the suck category. It just wasn't fun for me then.

Couple good songs on the soundtrack
Wow, wtf. These songs, the 1st one in particular remind me of Enigma. I used to accidentally catch my parents banging to this music all the time when I was a kid. Thanks for bringing back those scarring memories.

I own every Enigma album, including the fake bootleg (which featured Anguun, who would go on to sing in some songs on the latest album), the singles, and of course Michael Cretu's 80's albums.

So I  you

I own the Saturn and Genesis/Mega Drive versions, but I spent waaaay more time with the Genesis version, which has a better soundtrack (in my opinion). I guess I'll try out this Jon Burton version too. Sonic 3D Blast was just an okay game, but I've put my fair share of hours into it.
